10 games in the Underworld
Well 10 games in with my new Underworld team, the Six Feet Underdogs, and its time to reflect and take stock of how I'm doing.

The stats of 2/1/7 do not tell the whole story, very few of the matches were total routes - even those where I didn't score a single TD I usually got within one dice roll of a score (indeed twice the TD pass was intercepted by AG2 opponent players) I held Shaolins Finest to a single TD, denying them for an entire half and removing both their mummies from the match and I survived the Khemri Tombwarriors team without my Troll.

I've developed two offensive plays that show promise - 'LineRunner' and 'Pocket and Skirmish Line' and am becoming more proficient at improvising defences against bash teams. I have had two wins, although both were against rookie teams that were new to their coaches, and in one case significantly helped by some alarmingly harsh injury rolls (2RIP 2MNG and 1BH inflicted on the other team, plus one RIP inflicted on my own team by a careless Troll).

Tactically I think 7 of the 10 matches can be counted as (im)moral victories to the U-dogs for one reason or another and the game against the Fling Flying School was too much fun to have any losers.

Looking at how the team is developing, I have suffered 5 deaths and had to retire 4 players due to career ending injuries (0.9 players lost per match really feels like a lot, but I never expected Underworld to be survivable) these losses are roughly evenly split between skaven and gobbos, with a total loss of 50 SPP. The current squad has 5 skaven, 1 troll and 7 gobbos with a total of 69 SPP between them.

The stand out players are Gerald Pemberton-Fitzroy, my Troll and team talisman, who has gained block and grown a set of claws (coincidently it was straight after Gerald gained claws that the number of challenges from bash heavy teams seemed to drop off, although I'm sure there is no connection between the two things), then there is Ber'anx, a skaven blitzer with horns and tackle (watch out dodgy ball carriers) who has been worth his weight since gaining his mutation and finally the gobbo See-em who has just popped a second head - I've yet to see how this will play but I can only imagine the chaos that can be caused by being able to dodge to any square on 2+ with a re-roll.

A couple of people have suggested that I should be more selective about my opponents, avoid the POMBers to cut down on attrition but I can't help feel that remains 'not the point' - that is exactly why I moved away from playing a 'good' team to playing Underworld, I don't want to be sitting in front of the game finder wondering 'will playing this team hurt me too much' and worrying about what might happen to my star player I just want to play and, yes, I may have to replace Ber'anx (or god forbid Gerald) with a 40k gobbo rookie but it won't stop me from playing my next match and enjoying the game.

In case anyone is interested in following how the U-dogs are doing in more detail I have taken the time to write some fluff for the team and produce detailed match reports for each of the first 10 games (can you tell I'm in full blown work-avoidence mode atm!)

Great work. Keep it up. Passing game will always lead to plenty of losses though. You would probably find that with Orcs too with strong opposition.

I always have respect for people writing good match reports. Great.

Great match reports! Underworld is the most fun team in my opinion. I've had some really crazy games with team. Especially against a Norse team that almost wiped me out. I still managed to win 3-2 and it was intoxicating! (https://www.fumbbl.com/p/match?op=view&id=3702057). Unfortunately the team is locked in a half played match now and I can't seem to get finished. I'm starting a new underworld adventure soon though...
