Cant see the Wood for the Elves....
Back again....

Following my last Blog I received a few offers/requests for games.
The first offer I accepted came from coach
Aenir
After looking through his teams the closest match came from his team the Wood Freaks

I have to start by saying that I really enjoyed this game. Aenir was a fantastic opponent and not only was the game played in the best spirit but along the way they gave me some brilliant advice as to what I could have done. They were also very friendly and chatty throughout which only added to the enjoyment.
Thank you for a great game Aenir

What have i learnt from this game?

Dont leave any elf on their own! EVER!

It only takes them to get the ball from you and they can score in two turns, less than that if they get it in your half.
This was proven with a bad kick at the first kick off and 2 turns later and I'm a score behind before I've blinked.

This suggests that for faster moving teams I may have to defend deeper than normal to be prepared to catch any players running deep into my half.

Apart from that my strategy seemd ok - my caging certainly worked out better, though I did commit too early to a side of the field which caused some delay during the first half.

The choice to give my thrower the BLOCK skill at the first opportunity really did make a difference. She was able to withstand a number of blocks from a Wardancer and still come up holding the ball.
This helped me to score.

This game i kept my focus - but need to be more decisive. At one point in the game all but one of his players were down or off the pitch and I had a free reign, but failed to take this opportunity.

I also feel that I may need to develop my passing game, as my team is starting to feel a little one dimensional and may get stuck with high speed players such as the Wardancers.

Team Development

Shawn Michellas - Thrower Completed one pass and scored the VP giving her a total of 12 SPP's - not quite enough to increase her skills again.

Lou Bushwhacker - Linewoman notched up a casualty which gave her a skill roll taking BLOCK effectivly turning them into a blitzer.

Brittany Hart - Blitzer made her third casualty in as many games which also took her up a skill level.

Now Lishi's Guide suggests that Blitzers should take guard. I thikn that is a good idea - but I have noticed that quite often my Armour and Injury rolls come up one short.

Therfore I selected MIGHTY BLOW and I am hoping that this might make the difference, and tactically it makes sense. The more opposition I can put in the injury box the less I have to worry about scoring :)

Richelle Rude - Linewoman was the only other player who earned SPP's.

Jamie Neidhart - Blitzer will miss the next game after sustaining a Serious Injury - but with no other serious after effects.

FF stayed the same again

80,0000 in winnings .

I have used these to bolster my squad with the addition of two more Linewomen, taking my squad to 13.
