In fairness, in your situation, you had an MA9 Wolf, an AG4 Blodge Wolf, and hadn't suffered a single injury to your team yet. I don't think very many coaches would give up in this circumstance.

I never concede. I still remember a Cyanide game I was losing, on turn 16 my opponent disconnected and I got the win.
Never say never, your opponent could die on turn 16 and you could get the win after 3 days.

Sometimes after screwing up you just dont feel like playing any more. Conceding is often some sort of "sorry, I'm not in the mood any more" and less of a "there's no mathematical way I could save this game".

I never conceded out of frustration, but people sometimes feel like that and it's understandable.

My three concessions involved one severe migraine, one horribad Tourette attack, one realization I was gonna have to drop from the league, and three hopeless-seeming situations. You never know, if a game seems unwinnable and RL intervenes, it's maybe a thing that happens.

Disclaimer: Lets remember that some folks concede because of life (laptop breaks down, family emergency, wont have internet for a week or something crazy, baby is crying, kid just got up in the middle of the night and peed on the door, etc - before we assume our opponent is a sore loser lets please remember that life can force us to concede a game of BB and that's okay).

Outside of this:

Ive conceded 3 times in all of my games. Concession is an option because in some cases it is the best coach decision you can make for your team. But it heavily depends on what the team is playing in. For example:

In a resurrection style tournament, there is no reason to concede. Youll be back right as rain for the next round. May as well play it out.

For blackbox and league, concession sometimes is the best course of action. Perhaps hoping you pull out a win in a game with dim chances is worth it - and in most cases it is. But what if you already used your apoth, you have very few highly skilled players left on the pitch, and your opponent has tagged them all with claws and MB? Do you hope to roll a bunch of 6s in a row just to get your opponent to drop the ball? Or do you concede to save whats left of your team? In the LONGRUN, a better coach decision might be to cut your losses and move on.

Every team in a grindy environment like blackbox or even league is an investment in time especially on blackbox. You can keep riding the bad stock hoping itll pick up some points (that may never happen). Or you get out while you still have some value in your stock and live to fight another day.

A very bad investor will tell me they always ride it out. Conceding because the longterm investment on your team outweighs the short term loss of the current match is a smart decision. The game mechanic exists because there are times when it is the optimal call.

All of this being said, I have conceded 3 games total (I think, maybe 4) on fumbbl. It takes a lot to get me to this decision.

It's bad because of several reasons:
It's timewaste for people who have to arrange one or two hours time to play a game (some of us have jobs or families).
It's bad for learning the game, I remember playing BB1 on Cyanide with Khemri, and won so many games due early concedes that I believed I was a strong Coach... until I returned to fumbbl.
Having said that, there can be reasons for conceding. And as long as it will be possible to concede via simple button it will continue to happen, also for bad reasons. If people would need to contact Admins or agreement of the opponent to concede it'd happen less.

I think it's a non-issue. I ckecked my last 300 games, and found 5 concessions. 2 by me, 3 by my opponents. In all cases I thought it was reasonble to concede. But for argument's sake let's assume one or two were unreasonable; that's 1 unreasonable concession every 150 games. I can live with that.

I'd "assume" most concessions come when people think they have no chance of winning and thier team will get mangled. I can imagine (outside of a league) that someone would really care if they let in 5TD and lost but they would be more upset by suffering several perms.
I'd be interested to see if there is trend in which races concede the most and against which race. I'd imagine most concessions would be against bash teams.
I feel the concession is potentially unfair on the winner as you deprive them of team development. Is the bonus MVP enough to offset the SPPs you would get for playing out the game?
Maybe a model / formula that would calculate the expected number of SPPs you would get given the game state at the point of concession would make them feel less annoying.

As an aside, I think that players with 31+ SPPs should roll to see if they leave the conceding team. 51+ SPPs is not a severe enough penalty.

Had an opponent do a pithy / whiny concede after 7 turns when he had the ball and couldnt score on his drive. I took great delight at his Super Star Bull Centaur leaving the team... can't see how conceding and losing best players is worth it. May as well play it out.

i've never conceded.. i've come very close though. people have called me stupid for not during some of my games lol. is there ever an acceptable time to concede? like say, you're playing as wood elfs, there is no way to come back, you've lost most of your team and you're remaining skilled players, +str WD or +AG WD are about to be fouled into oblivion. is it acceptable to concede or do you just try to keep running away? i have personally been in this exact situation. i'm well aware i'm not a very good coach, no need for anyone else to point it out TIA!
