Hmmmmmm I was definitely nervous, and I think I played pretty conservatively. I was young back then (in FUMBBL terms) and I'm not really proud of the matches I was taking!

I'm not even playing my box necros anymore, after having a run of 4/2/0. Though I love them and should continue playimg them. :-/

yeah, good point pgoo. To be honest, I am looking forward to losing, so I can go back to not caring. Pfft, lammer, etc. :)

I assume that this is the so called 'competitiveness' that we keep hearing about.
It seems pretty normal that with many people it only seems to kick in when they realise that they have a chance of 'winning' something. That may be a Major or just high CR, good record, Awards etc.
The cautious play is just a sign of feeling the pressure. Now if you were really competitive you'd feel the pressure in every game. Even snakes & ladders vs your 4 year old niece. ;)
Anyway it was a nice bit of bragging Pyth. ;)
There's not enough bragging in IMO. We could do with a bit more of it.
As long as it's not based on cherrypicking and/or cheeseballing that is. ;)

oh, koadah, me love, i'm always competitive. It is just that usually I try as hard as I can, but don't really care beyond that as dice are involved (and thus unreliable). Anyway, I think my CR (etc) demonstrate that I'm fairly competitive even when I'm not in the middle of a run.
Anyway, my point was that thinking about preserving a run makes one (well, me, anyway) change the way one plays. I've experienced similar in sports teams, where the mentality of a team can change when they are on a run. It can be hard for a coach to keep a team focussing in the game at hand, rather than the run of results as a whole.
Anyway, I find this stuff interesting.

Heh heh.
I put competitive in quotes because people define it differently.
I'm defining it as how much you care about winning. If you didn't care it wouldn't be affecting your playing style.
I'm just saying that you care about the streak more when you are well into a big streak. At the beginning it doesn't seem to matter so much as it is easy to start again. So by my definition 'more competitive'.
Personally I don't care much about streaks, CR or Awards. 16-0-0 is nice as it is certain to get you to the playoffs. But if you don't win the Super Bowl it's no better than 15-1-0 or even 8-8-0. ;)
In the Box I always play to win. But it wouldn't bother me if I lost unless I was going for a Sprint title.
I don't find wins easy enough to come by to let anything outside the game affect my playing style. ;)
If I am not going for a title I might think twice before leaping my star player into a cage for a certain kicking ;)

The best part is: when you do finally lose, the losses will come in a bunch and you'll start to wonder if you've forgotten how to play at all.

When I get a winning run I usually become a crap player, because I came to rely on luck. So I get one game at the end with average luck and I lose horribly and I'm like OMG MY DICE SUCK NUFFLE HATES ME AARRRGHHH!

hehe
and yes, next game = horrible dice molestation.
right, now back to normal service.
