My Painted Grand Tournament Tean
Here are the finished pics of my Willow Rosebark conversion for the White Ilse Star Bowl on the 22nd and 23rd August. It's a pretty basic conversion just an arm swap on the Masque of Slaanesh but I'm really happy with how the paitn job turned out. The 1st pic shows a before and after with the basic paint job next to the finished detailed work and the 2nd shows side views. I almost hate to varnish her but BB models take such a bashing I'll have to use tokens for when she goes prone.

After completing those High Elves i devoted all my energies to getting my GT team ready, last year i took on too many projects and ended up having to use the Norse team i did for Gatts. After devoting several weekends, many evenings and a couple of days off i managed to get the team completed and even made some re-roll turn and score counters too.

Those of you who were at the GT will have seen my team already, i was nominated for best team again but sadly missed out on the prize to a cool goblin team with converted pump wagons as Trolls. However that has just made me even more determined to do an even better team next year, complete with display base and coaching staff!

These models were the first that i have serious used the new GW washes on, previously i had been not all that imprssed as they did not behave like the old inks at all. However i have been using the washes to help with my blending rather than to colour the deep recesses.

The skin on the models was painted in three layers of blended highlights and between each layer a wash of black ink was used to help soften the blending. It's very time consuming (a good chunk of a day to just do the skin) but i really like the effect.

So enough waffle, here are the pics.

Linemen

Catchers

Wardancer

All these models were made from the new daemonettes with dryad arms and legs and some greenstuff thrown in too. Quite a lot of repositioning was done on the wardancer and catchers to give them their action poses so as to make it more obvious what each positional was.

The thrower is one of the old metal daemonettes, personaly i prefer those models, but they are a lot harder to convert and get hold of now. I had to quite a lot of finger swaps and conversions to get her to hold the ball and point in the right direction.

The treeman was pretty useless at the GT (as i knew it would be) but i had planned this conversion for ages to originally use as a treekin in my Wood Elf WHFB army. She is made from an Inquisitor scale deathcult assassin with the head from a female inquisitor and some more dryad bits as well as quite a lot of greenstuff. I had to buy the entire female inquisitor model for £18 just to get the head but was worth it.

Awesome, it is nice to know what the origional models were as I was curious but forgot to ask at GT. Well done.

Amazing. :)

Oh I wish I had time to get back into table top. :(

Awesome! You have reason to be proud.

Fabulous skill. My eyes are crapper than they used to be so squinting at tiny models would be a waste of time to try anything like this, but the detail and shading is pure class. I fondly recall my own efforts years ago that looked like they'd been done with a paint roller then dipped in a tin of dulux emulsion to be rendered a paint encrusted blob. I think I could've given you a run for your money as my technique was, and still is, the best way to paint figures*

Again, nice work - you're a great artist

*It's possible my technique is in fact, the worst possible way to paint figures, other than shooting at them with a paint gun. If I'd had a paintgun, I'd have tried that as well. Then dipped then into a pot of paint.

Nice piccies but I can say with confidence that they're even better in the flesh :)
Posted by Cribbleobblepie on 2009-06-07 01:22:53
Far nicer in the flesh but still amazing here.

A group shot would show of the continuity nicely... *HINT*

Great stuff as always. REally creative with the conversions on this one. Was not to fond of the tree-stuff from start, but when i saw that treeman, you convinced me.
Could we please have a group-photo?
Posted by Nightbird on 2010-02-06 07:59:55
Absolutely fabulous man!!! This is the coolest, most creative conversion of a team I have ever seen & the paint job is supurb!!! I cannot believe a goblin team beat you, it must really have been something. Don't suppose you have pics of said goblin team? Anyways you are a very fine painter my friend, carry on.
