Lizardmen
I had heard that lizardmen are a difficult team to play, with their vulnerable skinks, low-agility (and expensive) linemen, and odd need to mix play styles. Well, I am 6/0/5 now, and my first lizardmen team is at 3/0/0. They have yet to have a player suffer a SI, let alone get killed. They have never won a game by more than 1 TD, but they have won.

What is it about the lizardmen? As the rulebook says, they have the power to last, and the speed to run. A Kroxigor with guard and two sauri standing together on the LoS are nearly invulnerable except to big guys. Handing off to a skink can outflank even a fast team. A cage of S4 MA6 players can slice through a fast team, and still outrun a slow team.

And then there is something special about the Thunder Reavers. I remember one game (not, as I recall, on FUMBBL) where I needed to make something happen before the clock ran out; I was too aggressive, and my ballcarrier got mobbed. What is more, he was a saurus: AG3, no dodge, no break tackle. So, I handed off to a skink who was free of tackle zones, he threw a pass to another skink, and this last scampered eight squares into the endzone. A play worthy of even an elven team.

Man, you played just 3 games with skinks. Lets talk about when you played 20+ games. I bet you wont say the same...

You will notice some differences between academy and ranked, so get out and play some real games before you comment in your blog.

My first team was humans, and they were a miserable failure. My second team was lizardmen, and they were great! the saurus did the bashing, and the skinks ran around and scored. Sadly, the team failed anyway, I had trouble with fan factor and keeping the skinks alive. Good luck!

Problem is the saurus take a while to skill up and since they have such weak agility putting a guy in their TZ means they cant maneuver around, they are also skill-less so it's harder to break Av when hitting whoever is in their TZ. This leaves the skinks to fend for themselves and eventually get pwned.

I agree with you Hoplitas. The Lizardman team can field six Sauri. Without the use of a Big Guy, they have six players than can move 6 tiles with a St 4. When played correctly, it is hard for another team to get around these Sauri to even get to the four Skinks moving the ball.

And the Skinks themselves have Dodge. Coaches rave about Block, but Dodge is the defender's Block. With Dodge, you fall down less often.

For those that want some proof on how powerful a Lizardman team is, check out the rankings (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=stats&op=rankings). The teams that consistently rank higher than Lizardmen are the teams that have a great passing game, are very fast, rely on dodge, or a combination of these things.

I can see why some coaches complain about coaching a Lizardman team, though. They can be hard to grow star players because the Sauri are relying more or less on causalities for SPPs. And Skinks do occasionally die since Stunty makes them more fragile when they do fall.

But having said all of that, any coach with a clear vision for how to play BloodBowl should win notably more often than not with a Lizardman team. Even if he is in a league and can't "cherry pick".

Lizardmen are great when coached right. Great but not really above any of the rest of the teams.

Adding the factum of a Lizardsteam in tourney:
-Pros: Getting SillyBilly on the field = 8 guys with st4 and more.
-Contras: As vulnerable as a sheep in space.

At low TR they are great. But have some inconvenients, like bad positioning of Saurus with ag1, or some dependence on Skinks, that are frail stuntys, for ballhanding.

At high TR, keeping Saurus healthy and well developed may be hard... and they are the core of Lizardmen teams.

Plus, they have a soft spot for tournament play:
Wizzard vs the ag1 cage.
