From the History fo CIBBL 2: Halfling in Autumn and the Post-Season Y7 Autumn of the Swan Riders
Greeting sports fans,
Swan Riders just finished their autumn tournament. As a new team without prestige they entered the last division, the so-called Pit (15th division in the ladder). Believe it or not, this was only the 3rd Autumn tournament for the Halflings. The previous apperances were on Year 5 in the Cloth (10th Div. / Lords of the Harvest) and on Year 6 in the Dust (14th Div. / Brandystock Barrelers). All these appearances share the following traits: a) Debut of the respective Halfling Teams, b) these Divisions were the last divisions of the ladder.
Lets see the details:
Y5 Cloth: Lords of the Harvest 2 W (all by Forfeit) – 6 L, TD 2-13 (-11), Cas 5-23 (-18) → 8th of 9.
Y6 Dust: Brandystock Barrelers 7 L, TD 4-23 (-19), Cas 14-31 (-17) → 8th of 8.
Y7 Pit: Swan Riders: 3 W – 1 D - 3 L, TD 5-6 (-1), Cas 25-26 (-1) → 5th of 8
One look in the numbers saw exactly the huge improvement of the Swan Riders comparing to the other years and why this Autumn was the best so far for the Halfling Football*. We had a far better defense and a lot of hitting power. There is a small disappointment that 10 points were not enough for a respectable mid table position, but there were a lot of better teams and coaches than us in the division. But our biggest achievement is that we managed during our first season to become the most prestigious Halfling team in the history of CIBBL with 120 Points, 20 more than the previous record held by the Hilshire Culinary College since Year 2 Spring! In total we gathered 100 Prestige Points for our result and our Treeman Star Blocker Drychaen adds another 20 Prestige Points through his achievements and awards (Triple X – 2x- and Pit Excellence -2x, Most Cas and Most SPPs), totaling 120 Prestige Points, which are bringing us temporarily in the race for a place in the Mud Division of Y8.
Concerning our last game against the Aethyric Humours, the fear that everyone shared became true. The team showed a bit tired after the huge effort against the Scrappers and the Nightmares and got decimated 3-0. The game was lost already from the beginning when the Air Elementals outmaneuver our team in every aspect. Our blocking game (which for halfling on the previous games was extremely good) did not give us any edge, the contrary we were losing players. A sad way to farewell a successful tournament appearance. I.
And now we have the some targets for the Team to fight for. First, to manage to be the first Halfling Team with a second autumn appearance and secondly, to compete in higher division than Pit, ideally in Cloth or even Higher, but that is almost an impossible task. That means we will have in front of us the extremely difficult Empire championship (on which we will have a different article) and an unknown yet Summer tournament to compete (and survive). But our target remain the same: when someone mentions Halfling and CIBBL, the first that is coming to mind should be the SWAN RIDERS.
*: The second thing that someone can easily note is the dubious high Win Rate of the Lords of the Harvest by forfeit. We have touched many times the probable connection of this with their own disappearance in the Eichenschatten Grand Feast. Something that we did not immediately recognize previously is that one of the disappeared team in the Y5 Cloth was the Amazon Moortebo Lillies (https://fumbbl.com/p/team?team_id=943861 ), whose Coach has some deep connections with the coach of the Spitepeak Sabotage (https://fumbbl.com/p/team?team_id=1017325 ). We hope that the brutal murder of our Star Treeman Caden Undaria (MV 3, Block) in our game against the Sabotage has nothing to do with scandals that we have not any connection with.
* Off-course in the terms of the broader Halfling Football and considering Teams fielded by our eastern (Ninja Flings) and southern (Forest Halfling, former Pygmies) brothers, the best by far Autumn perfomance is the achievement of Pahuax Huntmasters to win the Marble Division (6th best Div. !!) of Year 6. The only Autumn Title for a broader Halfling Team so far! We are very sad to hear that they are going for vacations and got replaced by another Forest Halfling Team, the Pahualaxa Heads-Shrinkers. A Friendy game was organised so that we greets our southern brothers and honor one common legend of the past: Arfie Shorzenegger.
