Cleaning up the Leagues
I have been pretty much sticking to Ranked and Stunty games since i came to FUMBBL and while i enjoy them both, i wanted to branch out to some of the other challenges such as Blackbox and to try out a couple of leagues. Blackbox was easy enough, read the rules, make a team and activate... simple!

I have found however that looking for a league is a frustrating and boring job mainly because so many of them are no longer going or a full of coaches who haven't been seen for crazy lengths of time like 600 days and counting! And that number is only when they last accessed the site not when they actually last played a game in that particular league.

Just a few examples -

Ratrace: The Ranked Rush - States it is still taking applications for 2007 season and has 8 coaches who haven't been on the site in over 100 days.

1v1 Gladiator - Has many coaches offline for long periods but the one thing i noticed is it has coaches in the group who when i ask for a game they say "nah i haven't played 1v1 for ages"... so why are you still in this group??

Anarchodeutschostundiehschmägg - Accepting for September 2006.

Elf Mangling Union - 2005!

I'm not trying to have a go at anyone here im just wondering if it is possible to clean up the leagues so its not cluttered with old and no longer played leagues so its a bit easier to look through. Many of the leagues i have looked at even say that if you don't play within a certain period the team will be removed but it doesnt look like thats happening.

Perhaps each league could be given a deadline to advise the league is current or about to be current and the ones no longer used are purged. That would clean the system up and make it a bit more user friendly.

Thaks for listening!

I think part of the problem is that the leagues don't die so much as lose interest and fade out. It's rarely clear when a league has died. We could clean them all out, but it would be a painful process - deleting leagues without asking the members is a bad idea, but getting responses from the members when the league really has died is often going to be difficult. Plus, even if it's cleaned now, it's just going to return to the same state soon enough, it would be very hard to make a system to prevent this.

My advice would be to forget the list of leagues as a way of finding one, instead look in the forums. Most active leagues will have people actively posting in the associated forum, and you can be sure then that something is still happening.

As you're Australian mate, I'd be checking out the SWL - http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=group&op=view&group=647. Its one of the best leagues there is (he says without a slight hint of bias).

A filter on the leagues to filter for last activity would be nice indeed.

Your best place to look for active leagues is in the League/Tournament forum.
