on the Wastes ❱❱❱
The Southern Wastes...
... this vast mass of land occupies near all of the southern hemisphere yet very few knew of its secrets. For centuries, brave and foolish explorers of every race conceivable had set off to conquer this strange and dangerous land. Countless expeditions had left the shores of the Old World in search of fame, questing for glory, in hope of incredible wealth... very few had returned. Of those ships that had made it back, there were none that had not either had their crews turned from able bodied seamen to gibbering madmen, or else mysteriously lost their crews altogether...

Oft nights, at an alehouse, somewhere in the Empire, talk turned to the Southern Wastes. The stories were as plentiful as they were fanciful. The disputes as heated as they were foundless. Nobody could rightly claim to know if there was even life down there in that vast and barren wilderness. There is, however, one thing that all men agreed upon. If there was life down there... surely... undeniably... they must play BloodBowl!

And play Bloodbowl they did for many a season, with cabalvision eventually showing off their skills to lands far away. Stars rose and fell, crowds waxed and waned and the Southern Waste League grew from strength to strength. But it would not last forever. War struck the Southern Wastes as roving chaos warlords swept through the land pillaging everything. The fate of many SWL stars, coaches and staff is not known. Some fled to the North, many were killed. The league shut down as both players and fans were caught up in the conflict.

Now the war has ended, life is returning to normal and it is time to restart the league. The mighty SWL is ready to rebuild, but must start from scratch without the funds to lure stars back from the security of the North. Nature abhors a vacuum and new teams quickly formed from youngsters keen to make their mark in the big time. New races took to the pitch, old races started playing a different style. With the old guard gone, a new era is upon us, molded by the coaches who set out to make their mark on the Southern Wastes League. Finally, the SWL is prepared to usher in the new era of CRP with a clean slate for everybody. Rookies will evolve into stars and raw teams will strive to be crowned champions.

The question is, are you ready to create a legend?

Updates
A Quick & Dirty 'How to Join' the Greatest League on FUMBBL

  1. Come and say hi! PM an admin, pop into #SWL on Discord.

  2. Submit a draft list – have a geezer here and figure out which races suit you best; list them in order of preference and send it to Tomay via PM. We suggest you list at least 12 races.

  3. When assigned your race, start creating your team. We love the Fluff in SWL, so make it something worthy of Legend. Once happy, apply the team to SWL Fringe to start your Trial.

  4. Trial of Blood. To display the grit needed for weekly Blood Bowl, you must first trial. Arrange a minimum of 2 trial games in #swl or by PM. To share the new blood around, we don't allow Drafting teams to play a coach more than once during their trial. You can play games until you feel ready, as long as you don't go nuts, and make sure not to exceed a Tournament Weight of 130.

  5. When you’re ready, make sure your team has:

    1. At least 11 players (this may include journeymen)
    2. No gold
    3. A Tournament Weight of 130 or less

If so, submit it to SWL (this group).

  6. When the Season is drawn, PM your opponent to schedule your first game, and… start Creating Your Legend!

Extra points to consider:
  • Read the Seasonal Forum thread for up-to-date info including round deadlines.
  • Get in touch with opponents early to schedule games.
  • When scheduling games use SWL Time (Sydney/AEST) to avoid confusion.
  • Need an extension? Invite swladmin to your PM thread with your oppo, asking really nicely.
  • Don’t concede – the Hall of Shame is no place for an SWL coach.
  • Timeouts are not allowed in SWL. We like a relaxed playing environment.
  • If you need a break, PM Tomay and ask to park. But do so between seasons.
  • Star injured? No Potions in SWL – we like ‘em battered (or fried, the fans aren’t choosy).
  • The SWL has a long and proud history, beginning way back in the dawn of FUMBBL (c.2003). As such we have quite the trophy room. Check out the 'Champions of Past' 'Twahnlows' and 'Hall of Fame' tabs along the top... ⇡⇡
  • Post and read fluff in Channel BB, and check out past heroics at the SWL Records Page.
  • Any questions? Ask in #swl or click through the SWL Guide tabs up left. ↖↖
League Structure

SWL is divided into three tiers – Premier, Conference and Regionals. Teams move up and down the tiers according to their success in the previous season. SWL uses the Competition Rules Pack (CRP) as implemented on FUMBBL, plus the NAF sanctioned rosters Chaos Pact, Slann & Underworld.

Premier Division
Premier Division is the big time. Qualifying for the premiership is an achievement in itself. Winning cements your place in SWL history.

1st-3rd place: remain in Premier Division
4th-8th place: relegated to Conference Division

Conferences
Conferences are where the action is at for most teams. Standing above the masses and fighting your way up to Premier is the challenge! Most teams will play out the bulk of their careers here…

1st place: Promoted to Premier Division
2nd-7th place: Remain in Conferences for next season. Some 2nd or 3rd place teams may gain a Wildcard entry to Prem.
Last Place: Relegated

Regionals
This can often be the most exciting and dynamic division in the SWL. New teams fight for recognition and a shot at promotion, while established teams on a run of bad luck use every dirty trick to ensure they rise once more! League numbers determine regional numbers - there may be one or two divisions, with 8-12 coaches.

1st-2nd places: Promoted to Conferences
3rd and below: Remain *Unless wildcard promotions are required to maintain numbers in Conference*

These rules can be changed as needed at the discretion of the administration team.
Season Structure

1. Off Season
The Draft and Trial of Blood take place. We encourage existing SWL coaches to use their Fringe teams to help any new guys get their teams ready during the off season.

The Divisions are put together based on teams that have been promoted and demoted and the dates for the season are finalised and announced.

During this stage you should ensure you are available for the upcoming season. If not follow the rules for 'Parking' in the 'SWL Culture' tab to the left. ⇠⇠

The SWL automatically assumes you are playing on for next season unless you explicitly tell us otherwise.

2. Schedule of Play
The SWL season takes place over 7 rounds. Each week will have a due date, one week after the last round. These can be seen at the very bottom of this page. ⇣⇣

Generally the first round has a two week deadline. This allows teams flexibility to get ahead of the schedule to prepare for busier periods.

We strongly encourage coaches to get in contact ASAP with their opponents via FUMBBL PM. Advise your opponent of which days and times suit you best, and/or ask your opponent for their availability. All times mentioned should be in SWL Time (i.e. AEST/Sydney time).

3. Off Season
Preparations for the following season start anew.
League Points

Scoring Points
Win: 5 Points
Draw: 2 Points
Lose: 0 Points
Forfeit: -1 Point

Tiebreakers
It is common for two or more teams to be tied on league points at the end of a season. In this event, tiebreakers are used; these tiebreakers are (in order):

  1. Total Points
  2. Head to Head result
    1. Play-off (If there are only 2 teams tied who did not play each other, in the event of 3+ teams, proceed to step 3b).
    2. Strength of Schedule (calculated based on the total points scored by your opponents)
  3. TDDiff Average
  4. TDFor Average
  5. CasDiff Average
  6. CasFor Average
  7. Coin Toss

Wildcards
In the case of a tie-breaker across separate divisions:

  1. The finishing position of the teams (2nd, 3rd, etc.)
  2. The points scored by the teams.
  3. A Play-off (with overtime), If the play-off is a draw:
  4. TD Differential
  5. Cas Differential
  6. TD's scored
  7. Cas Inflicted
  8. Coin Toss

Touchdown and casualty counts are over the entire season, not just the head to head result(s). When a 3 (or more) way tie-breaker occurs, the rules used are the same. The head to head result tie-breaker is taken as the number of wins and losses between all tied teams.
Team Rules

Team Creation
After having submitted your draft list, you will be assigned one of the 24 sanctioned races from which to create your team. We value Fluff at the SWL, so create something worthy of Legend. Consider your team and player names, and have a look around what others have done for inspiration.

Team Size Restrictions
There are currently no team size restrictions in SWL beyond the 130 Tournament Weight limit for new teams (which will include players missing the next match and any journeymen you have) for new teams.

Racial Restrictions
SWL celebrates the diversity inherent in the rosters available to the Blood Bowl coach. As such, SWL restricts the number of teams of any one race. This ‘cap’ is derived by taking the number of coaches in the league and dividing by the number of ‘competitive’ rosters (see below). Generally the cap is rounded UP to allow for greater diversity across the league. So for example, with 50 active coaches, the racial cap would be 3; 50 divided by 19 is 2.63, rounded up to 3.

The currently sanctioned rosters (24 in number) are split into two groups: Competitive and Challenging.

Competitive teams range from the ‘top tier’ (Skaven, Chaos, etc.) to those which can still be successful with some good coaching and a little luck (Khemri, Slann, etc.)

Challenging teams are those with unusual play styles, or which are especially reliant on good dice to be successful. The Challenging teams are: Goblins, Halflings, Ogres, Vampires and Underworld.

Challenging Teams are not counted for the purposes of determining the Racial cap balance for the league. No one will be forced to draft a Challenging team - simply list them at the bottom of your draft list if you do NOT wish to be assigned to Coach them

RSP Balance
SWL classifies the various rosters into a Rock-Scissor-Paper (RSP) format:

RSP Classification
ROCK: Chaos, Chaos Dwarf, Dwarf, Khemri, Nurgle, Orc.
SCISSORS: Amazon, Chaos Pact, Human, Lizardmen, Necromantic, Norse, Undead.
PAPER: Dark Elf, Elf, High Elf, Skaven, Slann, Wood Elf.
Dynamite teams are those remaining, namely: Goblin, Halfling, Ogre, Underworld and Vampire.

RSP Balance
At the time of the Draft, teams will be allocated according to:
1. Racial Caps (see above)
2. RSP balance (the desired ratio is 1:1:1)

RSP balance will be in accordance with the above classifications. This clearly means that occasionally some coaches may NOT get their first, or even fifth preference.
SWL Culture

SWL adheres to the old adage “Don’t be a dick”. While competition is properly fierce and grudges and rivalries common, coaches are encouraged to play in the spirit of sportsmanship. Sportsmanship means different things to different coaches, but a simple rule is this: if you think you might get called out on a comment, you should think twice about saying it. Rudeness, trolling, flaming and similar are not tolerated in SWL. In character ‘smack-talk’ is something else entirely, and in the context of a rivalry between two teams, can even be encouraged - in the PROPER FORUM.

In addition, the SWL culture is reflected in the following rules:

Timeouts
The use of the timeout feature on the client is strictly forbidden in SWL. Some crucial games have a lot on the line and require in-depth analysis. Also, we have a relaxed environment where coaches often chat to each other during games and we want to keep it that way.

Concessions
Concessions are frowned upon in the SWL. When a team concedes, stadium owners miss out on revenue from fans, fans miss out on a cracking game, and the players from the other team have to redirect all their adrenalin and aggression, often at the expense of the poor civilians of the nearest township.

SWL management do not expressly forbid concessions. However, as concessions are poor form, SWL management has decided that concessions are to be discouraged, with the following in place:
  • Each team is allowed one concession in their life span.
  • Upon concession the team is stripped of 5 points for the season's score. Additionally, the team starts next season with a -1 score.
  • The Coach is added to the Hall of Shame.
  • If a team concedes a second time, that team will be removed from the league at the end of the season; the coach may redraft.
  • These penalties are in addition to those outlined in the Blood Bowl CRP.
NOTE: If a real life situation occurs for one or more coaches during a game, coaches should attempt to play out the game at a more convenient time. If this is impossible, then the concession may (at their discretion) be sanctioned by the SWL Admin team.

Extensions
If you and your opponent are unable to play before the deadline, you may request an extension. To request an extension, invite the swladmin FUMBBL account into the PM thread between you and your opponent.

Note: This PM must include a pre-arranged time to play during the extension period between you and your opponent.

For example: Hi Mr Axeman, Bob_Borc and I haven't been able to get our match in, and I'm going to be away this weekend. We have arranged to play on Tuesday at 7.30pm. – MrSwan

Extensions are axed at 10pm Sydney time on the Wednesday after the original deadline. If you have not played before then, you must send another PM. If an additional PM is not received, you will not be awarded any points.

Forfeits
Unless a PM been sent by 10pm on the Monday night a game is due, a forfeit will occur. If neither party has communicated in this manner then -1 point will be awarded for each player. If one player has sent a PM requesting a forfeit, that player will be given the win.

A coach who forfeits two games in any given season without an acceptable reason may have the remainder of his games forfeited automatically for the current season and may be excluded from divisional play in subsequent seasons. The final decision on this will be made by The Commish.

To request a forfeit, send a PM to swladmin. The content should explain why you deserve points for the forfeit.

Parking
If you need a break from the SWL we offer coaches a chance to park their teams. Teams may park from active competition for up to 5 seasons (BBC counting as 1). In other words roughly a year. Be advised however, SWL Admin will use their discretion* as to the return of that team.

Given the problems that mid-season dropouts and forfeits can cause, we do not allow mid-season parking. This is considered a drop, and the team, and if happening again, the coach, might be banned from future play. However, be mindful of the fact that all of us will occasionally find ourselves dealing with unexpected real life situations, in which case SWL might take a more lenient view of a drop.

If you're concerned that you might have to drop a couple of games in the current or upcoming season, send a PM to swladmin asking for advice.

After having been parked UP TO a year's period, Conference and Regional teams can slot back in where they left off, if possible*. Teams that parked in, or parked upon promoting to Premier however, will re-enter into the Conferences.

*Coaches can only unpark a team if there are sufficient spots available according to the Racial Cap system outlined in the 'Team Rules' section of this guide.

Dropouts
One of the main problems in any league is coaches dropping out mid-season. If you are forced to drop out due to personal circumstances please send a PM to swladmin.

Dropouts that occur in Premier will not be replaced and all teams that have or will have played that team will receive a bye and 5 points.

Dropouts at Conference level will not be replaced automatically and all remaining games are awarded in favour of their opponents. The only exception to this situation will occur if we have multiple dropouts, in which case we will substitute with a suitable Fringe team from a reliable coach.

Dropouts in Regionals will almost always be replaced with Filler teams unless there are multiple drop-outs in one season. This is to ensure newer and injured teams the chance to (re)build.

Fillers
If asked to step in as a Filler, an admin will give you a choice of races that you may choose your Fringe Filler from.
Change Log

This tab will be used to announce any recent changes so that coaches may keep track without the need to read through the entire guide.
17/9/16: Added a clarification to point 4 (Trial of Blood) in the "How to Join" section.
Old entry - Trial of Blood. To display the grit needed for weekly Blood Bowl, you must first trial. Arrange min. 2 trial games in #swl, making sure not to exceed a Tournament Weight of 130. (What's TW? Ask around, the lads are pretty helpful.)

Cups & Twahnlows
The Twahnlows were originally installed by the first SWL Commissioner, Twahn, as a way of awarding those players who displayed their individual talents on the pitch. The rules were simple - vote for the 3 best players from your opponent's team. The player with the most votes at season end would win the coveted Twahnlow.

From these simple beginnings were born the lesser Twahnlows - for blocking, passing, fouling... To this day the tradition is kept, although the coach voting system has sadly long been abandoned.

With over 60 seasons of history behind it, the SWL has a wealth of players past who have excelled. Many of these Twahnlow winners and Hall of Fame players are now further immortalised, and have a Twahnlow named after them. From the peerless Duke Snakefield, to the down and dirty John Stone, these Legends live on!

Watch the very first Twahnlows here.

WFWO joined SWL in Season 12 in the hands of future Commissioner Laviak. They played 125 games in the SWL finishing with a record of 69/18/38. They were the first Amazon team to make the Premiership division and the first Amazon team to win an SWL Premiership in season 31 before finally retiring. Team
Power Money Sex - Although they weren't in the league for a long time, PMS dominated during their short stint. They are the only team in the modern era to win a Premiership in 3 seasons finishing with an astounding record of 23/2/1.
Black Crowes - In the early seasons the SWL was dominated by the presence of a few legends that would go down in history. The Black Crowes were the home to one of those legends, Gone. More than that though, the Black Crowes played 123 games in SWL from Season 3 and were known as one of the identities associated with the league's early days.
Mort Avaritia - A positive casualty difference of 329 in 92 games played tells the tale of Mort Avaritia who terrorised the league during the end of the LRB4 era. During this time they smashed casualty associated records and went on to win a Premiership in season 36. Their name is still sends shivers up the spines of the coaches left who were unfortunate enough to play them.
Mort Volente - Although slightly less terrifying than their predecessors, Mort Volente was THE brutal force of SWL during the initial CRP period. They were also the first team to win the Premiership after the change in ruleset, earning a spot in the history books.
Woodies Double Revenge - WDR won two Premierships (Seasons 27 and 30) during a period where they were consistently at the top of the Premiership division. This was no easy feat considering the level of competition at the time with several other HOF teams featuring. They retired from competition with a record of 40/6/12.
Public Service Announcement - PSA will be remembered as one of the best teams during the establishment phase of CRP. Coach Daudy rose through the ranks to become the first coach in the modern era to win a Premiership on his first crack. An overall record of 41/17/17 demonstrates the coaching prowess shown by Daudy who managed to win back to back Premierships in Seasons 50 and 51 as well as a crucial victory in the first ever URN competition.
Zen Adepts - One of very few teams to win three Premierships, the Zen Adepts were certainly a force during the early seasons of SWL. Their Premierships came in Seasons 4, 12 and 16. Over a 156 game period, the Zen Adepts put together an impressive record of 75/39/42.
BBQ Wednesday Regulars - A classic team that featured prominently during one of SWL's golden periods. With a record of 68/23/38 over 129 games you would think they would have a cabinet full of Premiership trophies. However, the Regulars will be remembered for their 2nd place finishes and controversial match reports that are etched into the character of the league.
Large Head-on Colliders - LHC won back to back titles in Seasons 46 and 47. Around the same time they had a few close shaves with Premiership glory, but are responsible for finally getting Barre the title that had eluded him previously. The Colliders combined two legendary Bull Centaurs with a few explosive blockers to be a dominant force during the establishment phase of CRP.
Torturer's Picnic - If you looked up Torturer's Picnic in the SWL dictionary, it would be the definition of choking. The Picnic were specialists at rushing to early Premiership leads that were seemingly insurmountable, only to lose it all in the final rounds. Their record of 52/12/19 reflects the coaching prowess Patician displayed, at least when the pressure wasn't on.
Vanguard of the Southern Ark - At one stage there was a complete page on the old SWL site dedicated to perhaps the greatest team from Snorriheim with two Premierships in Season 11 and 13. Coached by one of SWL's greats, the Vanguard finished with an impressive record of 60/14/33.
Black Swans - The Black Swans are likely to be remembered as the team that first brought Irgy Premiership success. However, they were a constant factor during the early seasons of CRP within Premiership and Conference divisions. With over 100 games under their belt, the Swans were retired with a record of 58/24/36 including a win in the first ever URN. Their star player Jetta will be remembered as the crippled legend.
Blackwater Sting - Along with the Black Swans, the Blackwater Sting were a presence in the initial days of SWL CRP. Over 117 games, the Sting finished with an admirable 63/24/30, which in comparison with the Swans suggests they should have won at least a Premiership. They didn't, instead the Sting dominated Conferences and fell just short of Premiership glory for coach Chavo. The Sting will be remembered for featuring the Big 3, with their 3 statfreak legends dominating their lineup for most of the teams lifespan.
Southside Stone Smashers - There has been no team as dominant as the SSS during their 76 game career in SWL. Those who were around then all say that they were seemingly unbeatable and backed it up with the destruction of your team. An impressive 56/11/10 record only tells half the story of a team that won two Premiership titles and amassed a positive casualty difference of 150. At one point they went on a 19 game winning streak without a draw or loss at Premiership and Conference level.
Karak-Varn FC - the team that introduced Oldbugman to SWL, KFC were Premiership Champions in Season 19. Although they operated somewhat in the shadow of the recent success of the SSS, KFC were a team to fear in their own right with a reputation for inflicting damage and taking care of the ball. They ended up accruing an overall record of 45/12/24.
Seekers of the Sepulchre - Premiership champions in Season 28, the Seekers of Sepulchre were coach Snorri's final SWL team. Despite representing a race that is considered quite weak and had no success in SWL previously, Snorri lead the Seekers to an overall record of 47/10/22. His tactical mastery of the pro elves will go down in folklore as he seemingly controlled games with just a handful of players on the pitch.
Mr Whippy's Donut Boys - Clearly the coolest team to ever grace the pitch in SWL. The Donut Boys have earned a spot in the SWL Hall of Fame for their influence in the league's character. 161 games with Halflings is a lot and although most weren't in the main league, they did contribute as participants, fillers and constantly helped teams trialling.
Agitate - High Elves have had a tough time of in SWL. Agitate were perhaps the best High Elf team from the LRB4 era, with a record of 46/31/44 and numerous top 4 finishes in the Premiership division. What will be remembered most about Agitate however is the great nature in which games with Eagle009 were enjoyed. This made for some classic Premiership battles between other legendary SWL teams that are certainly memorable to those who were there.
Carlton United - Probably the first team people thought of when they opened this page. Carlton United are perhaps the most influential team in SWL History. Season 2 champions. Home of the greatest player in blood bowl history, The Duke. Coached by the legendary Mr Swan who later had a stint as #swl's channel bot. 104 games played, a record of 47/18/39. Owned by SWL founder, Twahn. Yeah, this team is legendary.
Gumbeast United - Khemri Care. They mightn't have the best record, but everyone from the early days of SWL remembers Gumbeast United. In a 110 game career, Gumbeast United were renowned for their contributions to fluff and being an enjoyable opponent to play despite their love of fouling.
Slumbering Skink - An SWL icon, the Skink have been around forever. A true testament to the power of persistence, Slumbering Skink first achieved premiership victory after 25 long, bloody seasons. They have since won the championship a further 5 times, winning their 6th(!) in Season LVII.
Citadel Ancients - Two games short of the 200 club, the Citadel Ancients were around for the majority of LRB4 SWL. Legendary Zombie E'thel represented the team for 157 of those games trying to recreate his previous career as a wardancer. Necromantic were not a popular choice in LRB4, but the Ancients will go down as one of the coolest teams in SWL's history for their character and determination.
Blue Mountain Dragons - The first Norse team to win an SWL Premiership and the only one for a long time despite a list of great Norse teams in SWL. There are still arguments today over whether Blax Landric is better than the Duke. Blax was the first legend in SWL. After their 56 games (22/8/26 record) the BMD withdrew from SWL in controversial circumstances, opting to keep their star player rather than fire him and remain in the league under the Regional salary cap. The ramifications of this move are still being argued over today and weigh heavily on the Blax vs Duke debate.
Angry Asgardians - Members of the exclusive 200 club, the Asgardians were perhaps the most known team in the SWL by the greater FUMBBL community due to coach Toonie's profile on the site. They never dominated the league, but their balls to the wall attritional approach will always be remembered. Over their career they inflicted 676 casualties (338/223/115) and had many famous rivalries, most notably with Slumbering Skink.
Wonga Wonga Whalekillers - Amongst the list of great Norse teams in SWL, Wonga Wonga stands out clearly ahead of the pack as the most successful. One of only 2 teams to win more than 3 Premierships, the Whalekilleers go beyond this to be known as one of SWLs most successful teams period. Not only do they have 4 Premiership titles and are still playing, their team's character and fluff is second to none. When all is said and done we will compile the records, but for now, enjoy the show, it's a ripper.
Stalingrad's White Stallions - Another winner in the character department, the White Stallions fought with the best of the SWL and narrowly missed out on claiming a Premiership on more than one occasion. Team captain, Boris Nuriev is remembered as one of the best SWL has seen as he represented his team with honor. The Stallions left the SWL with a record of 37/27/39 which is actually quite decent considering their poor casualty and touchdown differentials.
The Stinkers - Nurgle were horrible in LRB4 to the point of being considered almost unplayable. Yet in Seasons 23 and 24 PianoDan did the unthinkable and lead a Nurgle team to two consecutive premierships. For this feat PianoDan is considered amongst the greatest coaches ever in the SWL. The Stinkers were renowned for their defense, only conceding 70 TDs in their 76 game career, leading to a record of 44/11/21.
Bouilloires De Chaux - Frenchmen! Remarkably, the SWL Premiership was won 3 seasons in a row by a Nurgle team in LRB4. After The Stinkers went back to back, Clayinfinity finally cracked another Premiership title after a long break from the top. Lead by Gâteau D'Anniversaire the Bouilloires oozed French charm and flavor becoming a fan favorite at the time.
They may not have a Premiership in the trophy, but boy did they come close. Intoxicated Mayhem kicked off their career at the CRP restart and played 148 games in the SWL, including 10 seasons in Prem! With an overall winning record, I-Mayhem will be remembered for their dominance of the Conference divisions with 4 titles. They threatened to break the Orc Premiership curse only to fall just short on multiple occassions. I-Mayhem tested the limits of the salary cap with the core of their roster boasting 11 players with over 80 games with 4 of them amassing over 200 SPP. This truly impressive juggernaut of consistency was certainty a force throughout their career.
Certainly one of SWL's greatest teams, German Vermin played 157 games in SWL, finishing with a record of 75/26/56. This is somewhat deceiving, as German Vermin were forced to deliberately throw games in order to rebuild to their former glory after being all but wiped out. Symmetrical remarkably achieved this, finally pulling the team together where it finished with a few close Premiership runs. Previously, the Vermin were the first team to win back to back Premierships during a hot streak in Seasons 14 and 15 where their style of blood bowl made them seem almost untouchable. With too many legendary Vermin to list, this team will forever be remembered as one of SWL's great franchises.
Good, Bad, Furry - GBF are a member of the prestigious 200 club, achieving the feat just before the changeover to CRP. GBF were always a fan favorite as SWL spectators cheered on the underdogs during their Premiership runs. Although their record of 71/35/96 isn't the most impressive, GBF managed to upset numerous strong teams during their career. What they will be most renown for is their long list of Gutter Runner star players and most importantly, the career of The Replacemnt who is considered the icon of casualties in SWL.
Tribute to Alan Parsons - It's fair to say that Slann were always going to have a tough time in the SWL. While there were a number of Slann coaches in the league during the early days of the CRP changeover, the Tribute swiftly became everyone's favourite underfrogs. While they enjoyed limited success in their 110 game career, they did manage to compete for the premiership flag. The true success of the team was in it's fans, fans who showed up to witness and commiserate the death of Limelight, and who will always remember the catch-cry of "boing Boing BOING SPLAT!
Ecclesiarchs of Unsanity - Undead cannot win a Premiership they said. They don't play well at high Team Rating they said. Then along came the great Snorri and proved everyone wrong by winning Undead's first ever Premiership since the teams got established. Their victory was controversial however, as the Eccleiarchs managed to prepare for their prem run and hire the count for the majority of the matches for the season. Still, no one can deny the achievement of winning a Premiership with Undead.
Woodies Reunion Tour - Coach Erikekers once again proved his versatility, this time bringing Vampires to ultimate victory. With his trademark ability to build for the bigtime, Erikekers coached the Reunion to not one, but TWO premiership championships in a mere 52 games, losing only 10 matches along the way. A feat that will surely never be matched by a Vampire coach in SWL.
Woodies Double Double - The team that started a franchise. WDD were coached to 2 Premiership victories by Erikekers over a 78 game period where they went 52/9/17, scoring 192 touchdowns in the process. Their titles were won in Season 18 and 22 with two well prepared runs for which coach Erikekers would become famous.
Echoes of the Great Song - An 84 game career for a wood elf team is much longer than usual in SWL. During their stint EOTGS were lead by SWL Legend Touchstone who has become the icon of scoring in SWL. Casualties took their toll on the team and they departed SWL with a record of 39/6/39. More than that though, EOTGS will be remembered for their storyline and contribution to fluff at the time.

THE FORLORN
These races have completely failed to EVER achieve anything of note in the SWL...

  1. Goblin
  2. Underworld
  3. Ogre
  4. Orc
  5. Chaos Pact

Perhaps they're just waiting for the right coach?
The Hall of Shame
These teams have brought shame and dishonour to their coach, their fans, and the league itself

Mad Midgardians
In the pursuit of matching the glory of their namesakes, these Norsemen fell rather short, conceding a match against Goblins after a mere 5 turns. Perhaps infamy was the goal all along?

The Urn

It is the longest, most passionate debate in the Old World…

Which Blood Bowl League Institution is the strongest?

Whenever this question is asked, inevitably, the conversation focuses on the two big leagues – the SWL and the WIL.

The Southerners always argue that they have been playing the game for the longest and that the Northerners are merely imitating the real deal.

Those from the White Isle argue that their “modern league” has refined the concept and attracts greater talent from a much larger pool.

Finally, the two institutions have had enough of the talk and have agreed to settle the debate with a tournament. These two old rivals clash for coveted rights to lift an ancient Blood Bowl relic...

The five best teams from each league will battle it out to decide which league gets to take home the URN.

But really, it’s about much more than that…

The WIL are currently interim caretakers of The URN. To settle the longest, most passionate debate in the Old World - which Blood Bowl League is the strongest - a competition is held at the end of every year. The WIL and SWL both nominate their best teams that year, which face off in an epic 10 coach, 5 game series. The winners take home the ancient Blood Bowl relic - The Urn.

In the past, the SWL used to award the Twahnlow based on a voting system. Each player had to award 3,2 and 1 points to their opponents players in an after match report. The Twahnlow was originally going to be named after the first winner, Rannoz Vizgyre, but Commissioner Twahn did not acknowledge him and so it remained the 'Twahnlow'

Blax Landric's name is in the history books as the first SWL Legend - but he did so after his team (the Blue Mountain Dragons) had left the competition. Of those players that remained, Gone (of Black Crowes fame) achieved Legend status in Round 1 of Season XIV, while Duke Snakefield managed the feat precisely one season later.
