Rush & Pass KO Tournament
28th October 2009, 3.35pm (Fumbbl Time), sunny, slight breeze. Two sets of heroes-in-waiting take the field at Meadlands Stadium. Their uniforms are clean, their helmets shiny and new. Youthful faces, wary looks, mother’s on the terraces. A whistle blows ... the first Rush & Pass Cup starts ... and nothing will ever be the same again.

As the first half wore on some curious few locals joined the MaDs (Mothers and Dogs) in the stadium, eager to see who was disturbing the peace. The casualties mounted up and the terraces began to swell with true sports-fans and gore-fans alike. The ball steadfastly refused to remain in any one player’s hands for long, giving the crowd plenty of hard hits to enjoy. Then, a true Scottish warrior rose above the rabble, collecting the ball, tucking it in his sporran and rushing in the first touchdown. The second half followed suit and Tynes pulled off a staggering blitz, pickup and double dodge to take in his second and the victory sealing TD. Home honour defended, progress to the second round secured, The_Giants work was nearly done. In one last act, the dogs were set loose and the Astronot Skaven were ritually chased from the stadium.

The first round was completed in bottom half of the draw as Little Tinkers and The_Giants rival 97 Broncos progressed alongside the Dark Elf - S for Satan, who taught us that you can take the Goblin out of the forest, but you can ‘t make him Rush & Pass. Still, the Smelly Forest Idiots had made their entrance on the stage, won the crowd over and something about them said we would see them again (truth be told it was their Stikka - Pookiedumb, sticking his stick up yours truly’s nose whilst screeching “vee vil bee bak” that game me that ever-lasting impression). S for Satan went on to sweep past all opposition, with a combination of rushing, passing and evil genius, taking their well deserved place in the Final.

The second round saw the top half of the draw join the action, with Amazons and Nurgle’s Rotters clambering their way forwards to collide in a tight, tense, third round matchup. The Nurgle’s - Uptight Dynamite played a tight, hard game and ran out 2-1 winners.

So, from the morass of mud, blood and an occasional touchdown, two teams emerged to take their places in the Final. Your intrepid reporter was granted access to the teams’ dressing rooms prior to the match (ulp!). He tried to decline this kind offer, but his producer told him he had to or he would be fed to the Nurgle’s after the match. The few moments I spent inside the S for Satan dressing room have now been repressed quite entirely and could not now be brought back to my conscious mind if a rabid Troll threatened to remove my nether parts with a deft swing of his pet Gobbo. However ... they were nothing compared to the disgusting sights of the Uptight Dynamite ‘undressing’ room. Far be if from me to cause our good readers to project their morning flakes as they read this report, so I will restrict my account to the one notable act that would define the day - Coach Gablag could be seen hastily scribbling on his chalk board and muttering something about “killing the bugger when the game is in the bag”.
And with this our two teams took to the field. S for Satan won the toss and elected to receive. The Dynamite set up in their favourite gut-sling formation; Coach Gablag gave a shout to his players and gestured obscenely at his chosen Dark Elf victim. What followed would etch its mark across the entire Rush and Pass League, from its beastliest beast to its most pathetic apothecary. ‘Dozer the Just Third Hand of Nuffle’ rose from the depths and swept the Nurgle’s from the pitch, depositing them back in their slurry pit far from the Rush & Pass League, to think upon the folly of their foul plans. Dozer then took the Rush & Pass Cup from its plinth, handed it to Coach Riger G Omega and uttered these immortal words “Gurt lush, pick ee out the stingerz!”
