on the Wastes ❱❱❱
The Southern Wastes...

... this vast mass of land occupies near all of the southern hemisphere, yet very few knew of its secrets. For centuries, brave and foolish explorers of every race conceivable had set off to conquer this strange and dangerous land. Countless expeditions had left the shores of the Old World in search of fame, questing for glory, in the hope of incredible wealth, very few had returned. Of those ships that had made it back, none had not either had their crews turned from able-bodied seamen to gibbering madmen or else mysteriously lost their crews altogether.

Oft nights, at an alehouse, somewhere in the Empire, talk turned to the Southern Wastes. The stories were as plentiful as they were fanciful—the disputes as heated as they were foundless. Nobody could rightly claim to know if there was even life down there in that vast and barren wilderness. There is, however, one thing that all men agreed upon. If there was life down there... surely... undeniably... they must play Blood Bowl!

And play Blood Bowl they did for many a season, with Cabalvision eventually showing off their skills to lands far away. Stars rose and fell, crowds waxed and waned, and the Southern Waste League grew from strength to strength. But it would not last forever. War struck the Southern Wastes as roving chaos warlords swept through the land, pillaging everything. The fate of many SWL stars, coaches, and staff is not known. Some fled to the North. Many were killed. The league shut down as both players and fans were caught up in the conflict.

Now the war has ended, life is returning to normal, and it is time to restart the league. The mighty SWL is ready to rebuild but must start from scratch without the funds to lure stars back from the security of the North. Nature abhors a vacuum, and new teams quickly formed from youngsters keen to make their mark in the big time. New races took to the pitch, and old races started playing a different style. With the old guard gone, a new era is upon us, molded by the coaches who set out to make their mark on the Southern Wastes League. Finally, the SWL is prepared to usher in the new era of CRP with a clean slate for everybody. Rookies will evolve into stars, and raw teams will strive to be crowned champions.

The End of CRP...

A global financial revolution has stirred a spirit of entrepreneurship across the Southern Wastes.
The rise of croc-to-currencies such as Bitecoin and Nibble (the proliferation of crocodile-based commodities as a new method of anchoring currency) has galvanized the population. Veteran financial wizards now wrestle with crocodiles along with cash, while keen-minded rookies band together to stake a claim in a Brave New Economic World.

With the vast potential in the Southern Waste crocodile population limited only by the ability to manufacture (or ‘procure’) and unravel swamp-chains (the only ‘legal’ way by which crocodiles can be commoditized, and themselves subject to a myriad of arcane and complex rules), it was only a matter of time before the financial acumen, tactical risk-taking and frankly, overwhelming greed of SWL Management saw them buy into a number of croc-to-currency ventures.
While initial investments were slow to grow, and some ventures caused regrettable losses, a ‘broken egg:omellette’ mentality saw them stick it out into the recent boom-time. Global demand for crocodile-based commodities went through the tin-shed roof, and gold flooded the coffers almost overnight.

This unexpected windfall has had a direct impact on the day-to-day running of the SWL. With money to burn, the SWL Department of Upper-Marketing and Banking presented plans for a Grand New Way of playing The Game. This, of course, meant that the Old Way was no longer needed, as the Grand New Way was far better, with flashy new balls and stadiums, and anyway, it had much better marketing and sponsorship contracts tied into it. With the prospect of even greater returns ringing in their cash-struck minds, SWL Management went all in for the scheme.

Then the bottom fell out.

With no choice but to continue down the chosen path and barely cash left to pay the incumbent teams, players, and coaches for one more season, the UMB Department - now firmly holding the reins - decreed a Prestige Cup.
Open to all who had played in the SWL, this Championship would show that despite recent setbacks, the SWL was still the greatest damn league in the World, and surely that should drum up some ticket sales.

And so the scene was set…

The question is, are you ready to create a legend?

The SWL Guide

How to Join the Southern Wastes League

  1. Drop by #SWL on Discord and say hi!

  2. Draft your team. Start a privite thread in the draft-lists-* channel on the discord, should be up near the top, list your preferences for races, give us a good few you'd prefer to play ahead of Gnomes, six or so is normally plenty.

  3. Having drafted your race, create a new TV 1100k team using THIS LINK.

  4. Once finished, submit your team to the group, so we can find them.

  5. Trial of Blood! New teams must play 2-7 pick up games to qualify for the SWL.

  6. Having enough of your Trial, ready and redraft your team. You're in!

  7. When the new season kicks off, message your opponent to schedule your first game.
League Structure

The Southern Wastes League consists of three tiers – Premier Division, Conferences, and Regionals.

Premier Division
Prem is the big time. Qualifying is an achievement in itself. Winning cements your place in SWL history.
1st: SWL Champions
2nd-3rd: Remain in Prem
4th-8th: Relegate to Confs

Conferences
In the conferences, you'll find the bulk of the action and majority of games in SWL.
1st: Promotes to Prem
2nd-3rd: Possible wildcard promotions
4th-6th: Remain in Confs
7th-8th: Possible relegation

Regionals
Regionals consists of new and younger teams, and a couple of cherries.
1st-3rd: Promote to Confs
Top half + 1: Possible wildcard promotions
The rest: Remain in Reggies

Season Length
Each season consists of 7 games over eight weeks. We strive to run five seasons each calendar year—the first one starting mid to late January.

Points
Win: 5 Points
Draw: 2 Points

The BB2020 Ruleset

The Southern Wastes League uses the BB2020 ruleset as implemented on Fumbbl. A custom script by coach and admin Barre made us the first league to run BB2016 Seasons Rules on Fumbbl, and we readily took to BB2020 Seasons Rules when the teams became available.

The BB2020 rules can largely be explained through the following three mechanics.

1. Off Season
An injection of Channel BB Broadcasting Rights cash finalizes each Off-Season team budget added to your treasury by admin to fund your re-draft for the next season.

Budgets are 1000k base, +20k per game, +20k per win, +10k per tie, +0/100/200k for returning to reggies/confs/prem, + your remaining team treasury, after you ready the team post-game-seven. -100k league fees for fillers and blooders.

Freely remove any number of re-rolls, coaching staff, or players, and add new players to a minimum of 11, as long as your Team Value + Agent's Fees does not exceed your Re-Draft Budget. Injuries may heal* on retained players, but only if you choose to keep them.

* Niggles are removed on a D6 roll of 4+ (3+ if your team has an apothecary). MNGs are automatically cleared.

2. Agent's Fees
Long-serving players will insist on extra payments to stop them from retiring from Blood Bowl (quitters!). If you want them to plow on beyond their 4th season, it will cost you additional Agent's Fees every season from thereon.

How to calculate a player's agent's fee: 15k * (number of seasons - 3)

That's an extra 15k to redraft for their 5th season, which increases to 30k for their 6th. And so on. Forever.

Note: Players hired late in a season still count as having played one full season. Even if they never took the pitch.

3. Expensive Mistakes (EM)
When you ready* your team with 100k or more in your treasury, an EM D6 roll will occur.

D6100k to 145k150k to 195k200k to 245k250k to 295k300k to 345k350k plus

4Crisis AvertedCrisis AvertedCrisis AvertedMinor IncidentMinor IncidentMajor Incident
5Crisis AvertedCrisis AvertedCrisis AvertedCrisis AvertedMinor IncidentMinor Incident
6Crisis AvertedCrisis AvertedCrisis AvertedCrisis AvertedCrisis AvertedMinor Incident

Crisis Averted: Thanks to some careful management; your team behaves itself for once!
Minor Incident: The team gets up to some mischief, and you lose D3 * 10k GP.
Major Incident: Half your Treasury (round up to nearest 5k) is lost to an unfortunate mishap.
Catastrophe: Your Treasury is emptied! Except for 2D6 x 10k GP, you sensibly squirreled away for just such an occurrence.

You must ready your team by the Wednesday after game 7. Admin will add Broadcasting Fees to your treasury after you ready the last time.

Rules to be added
The following are BB2020 rules not yet completely implemented on Fumbbl, so they remain sleeping rules which can be added at any point.
- Very recent Star Player's unique skills (almost all are already in, but new ones turn up).
- Temporary Retirement of players in-season to heal permanent injuries.
House Rules

Code of Conduct
The Southern Wastes League adheres to the old adage “Don’t be a dick.” While competition is properly fierce and grudges and rivalries common, coaches are encouraged to play and chat in the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Rock, Scissors, Paper, Dynamite, and Racial Caps
SWL ensures a wide range of races and play styles. To achieve this, drafting coaches are assigned teams according to two principles: RSP-D and Racial Caps.

The Rock-Scissors-Paper-Dynamite (RSP-D) format classifies races as follows:
ROCK: Chaos Dwarf, Dwarf, Khorne, Nurgle, Old World, Orc, Shambling Undead, Tomb Kings.
SCISSORS: Amazon, Black Orc, Chaos, Chaos Renegades, Human, Lizardmen, Necromantic, Norse.
PAPER: Dark Elf, Elven Union, High Elf, Imperial, Skaven, Underworld, Vampire, Wood Elf.
DYNAMITE: Goblin, Halfling, Ogre, Snotling.

The league strives to keep a 1:1:1 RSP ratio of teams. Dynamite teams do not factor in, however, and we will never force you to play one.

In addition, SWL has a soft cap on the number of teams of any one race.

Racial Cap = Total Coaches / 18 (no. of classic competative races) rounded up

However, one or more of these caps might be raised under limited circumstances as long as league balance conditions are met.

Timeouts & Concessions
The use of the Timeout and Concede Game features in the client is NOT allowed in SWL. If something comes up, continue the game another day.

Extensions
If you cannot play your game by the weekly deadline, you may request a two-day extension. To do so, invite swladmin to your scheduling PM (or write one to the axeman on site), and include a newly agreed upon time for your game. This must be done before Monday 10 pm, or the axe will fall. Unplayed extensions are axed the following Wednesday at 10 pm.

Forfeits
Unless an extension PM has been sent, unplayed games are axed Mondays at 10 pm. Should both coaches fail to PM, it's a double forfeit, and 1 point is deducted from each team. If one of the coaches has PMed, however, that player is awarded a forfeit win. Forfeit winners gain two bonus MVPs, 1d6x10k gp, and are compensated in their Off-Season Redraft Budget. Forfeit losers are not.

Parking
If you need a break from SWL, you may park your team between seasons. We do not allow mid-season parking. Teams may park up to 5 seasons (roughly a calendar year) but can only unpark if the RSP/Racial Caps allow it. Teams reenter at their former tier, except Prem parkers, who reenter in Confs.

Dropouts
A coach forfeiting two games in a season without an acceptable reason will have the remainder of his games forfeited and may be excluded from the league. People dropping mid-season like this is a major headache, so we ask for your cooperation in always seeing out your current season. Dropping slows team development for opponents and lowers the integrity of the final standings. If you are forced to drop out due to personal reasons, please PM swladmin. Teams with fewer games due to dropouts will be compensated in their upcoming Team Budget.

Note: Fillers may replace dropouts at the admin's discretion. Prem dropouts will not be replaced, and all teams that have played that team get a bye, points, and budget compensation.

Fillers
If asked to step in as a Filler, an admin will give you a choice of races that you may choose from.

Cups & Twahnlows
The Twahnlows were originally installed by the first SWL Commissioner, Twahn, as a way of awarding those players who displayed their talents on the pitch. The rules were simple - vote for the three best players from your opponent's team. The player with the most votes at season end would win the coveted Twahnlow.

From these simple beginnings were born the lesser Twahnlows - for blocking, passing, fouling. To this day, the tradition is kept, although the coach voting system has sadly long been abandoned.

With over 80 seasons of history behind it, the SWL has a wealth of players past who have excelled. Many of these Twahnlow winners and Hall of Fame players are immortalized and have a Twahnlow named after them. From the peerless Duke Snakefield to the down and dirty John Stone, these Legends live on!

Watch the very first Twahnlows here.

Carlton United
— Twahn
#1 | Seasons 1-17 | Games 104
SWL founder team. Probably the first team people thought of when they opened this page. Carlton United is perhaps the most influential team in SWL History. Seasons 2 champions. Home of the greatest player in blood bowl history, The Duke. Coached by the legendary Mr. Swan, who later had a stint as #swl's channel bot. 104 games played, a record of 47/18/39. They were owned by SWL founder, Twahn. Yeah, this team is legendary.

Zen Adepts
— FLo711
#2 | Seasons 1-19, 21, 23-26 | Games 156
SWL founder team. One of very few teams to win three Premierships, the Zen Adepts were certainly a force during the early seasons of SWL. Their Premierships came in Seasons 4, 12, and 16. Over a 156 game period, the Zen Adepts put together an impressive record of 75/39/42.

Blue Mountain Dragons
— ClayInfinity
#3 | Seasons 1-8 | Games 56
SWL founder team. The first Norse team to win an SWL Premiership and the only one for a long time despite a list of great Norse teams in SWL. There are still arguments today over whether Blax Landric is better than the Duke. Blax was the first legend in SWL. After their 56 games (22/8/26 record), the BMD left the SWL in controversial circumstances, opting to keep Blax on the roster rather than fire him to remain under the Regional salary cap. The ramifications of this move are still being argued over today and weigh heavily on the Blax vs. Duke debate.

Slumbering Skink
— Faulcon
#4 | Seasons 2-70 | Games 498
An SWL icon, the Skink have been around forever. A true testament to the power of persistence, Slumbering Skink first achieved premiership victory after 25 long, bloody seasons. They have since won the championship five times, winning their 6th(!) in Season LVII. [To be updated.]

Mr Whippy's Donut Boys
— ClayInfinity
#5 | Seasons 9-10 (2~) | Games 31
Clearly the coolest team to ever grace the pitch in SWL. The Donut Boys have earned a spot in the SWL Hall of Fame for their influence on the league's character. 161 games with Halflings is a lot, and although most weren't in the main league, they did contribute as participants, fillers and constantly helped teams trialing.

Gumbeast United
— gumbi
#6 | Seasons 2-19 | Games 109
Khemri Care. They mightn't have the best record, but everyone from the early days of SWL remembers Gumbeast United. In a 109 game career, Gumbeast United were renowned for their contributions to fluff and being an enjoyable opponent to play despite their love of fouling. Khemri Care.

Black Crowes
— ozjesting
#7 | Seasons 3-20 | Games 123
In the early seasons, the SWL was dominated by the presence of a few legends that would go down in history. The Black Crowes were the home to one of those legends, Gone. More than that, though, the Black Crowes played 123 games in SWL from Season 3 and were known as one of the identities associated with the league's early days.

Southside Stone Smashers
— Sandune
#8 | Seasons 4-9 | Games 61
There has been no team as dominant as the SSS during their 61 game SWL career. Those who were around then all say that they were seemingly unbeatable and backed it up with the destruction of your team. An impressive win record only tells half the story of a team that won two Premiership titles, a Gentlemen's Picnic, were runners-up in the same tourney when they were still a trial team, AND amassed a positive casualty difference of 115. At one point, they went on a 19 game winning streak without a draw or loss at Premiership and Conference level. An SWL record no one's even come close to beating.

Angry Asgardians
— Toonie
#9 | Seasons 7-17, 19-37 | Games 207
Members of the exclusive 200 club, the Asgardians, were perhaps the most known team in the SWL by the greater FUMBBL community due to coach Toonie's profile on the site. They never dominated the league, but their balls to the wall attritional approach will always be remembered. Over their career, they inflicted 659 casualties and had many famous rivalries, most notably with Slumbering Skink.

German Vermin
— Symmetrical
#10 | Seasons 8-16, 27-37 | Games 150
Certainly one of SWL's greatest teams, German Vermin played 150 games in SWL, finishing with a record of 72/24/54. This is somewhat deceiving, as German Vermin were forced to deliberately throw games in order to rebuild to their former glory after being all but wiped out. Symmetrical remarkably achieved this, finally pulling the team together with a few close Premiership runs. Previously, the Vermin were the first team to win back-to-back Premierships during a hot streak in Seasons 14 and 15, where their style of blood bowl made them seem almost untouchable. With too many legendary Vermin to list, this team will forever be remembered as one of SWL's great franchises.

Good, Bad, Furry
— eganra
#11 | Seasons 9-39 | Games 202
GBF are a member of the prestigious 200 club, achieving the feat just before the changeover to CRP. GBF were always a fan favorite as SWL spectators cheered on the underdogs during their Premiership runs. Although their record of 71/35/96 isn't the most impressive, GBF upset numerous strong teams during their career. They will be most renowned for their long list of Gutter Runner star players and, most importantly, the career of The Replacemnt who is considered the icon of casualties in SWL.

Citadel Ancients
— theopacman
#12 | Seasons 9-34 | Games 198
Two games short of the 200 club, the Citadel Ancients were around for the majority of LRB4 SWL. Legendary Zombie E'thel represented the team for 157 of those games trying to recreate his previous career as a Wardancer. Necromantic were not a popular choice in LRB4, but the Ancients will go down as one of the coolest teams in SWL's history for their character and determination.

Vanguard of the Southern Ark
— Snorri
#13 | Seasons 9-16 | Games 91
At one stage, there was a complete page on the old SWL site dedicated to perhaps the greatest team from Snorriheim with two Premierships in Season 11 and 13. Coached by one of SWL's greats, the Vanguard finished with an impressive record.

Karak-Varn FC
— OldBugman
#14 | Seasons 10-21 | Games 79
The team that introduced OldBugman to SWL, KFC were Premiership Champions in Season 19. Although they operated somewhat in the shadow of the recent success of the SSS, KFC was a team to fear in their own right with a reputation for inflicting damage and taking care of the ball. They ended up accruing an overall record of 44/12/23.

The Stinkers
— PianoDan
#15 | Seasons 11-25 | Games 76
Nurgle were horrible in LRB4 to the point of being considered almost unplayable. Yet in Seasons 23 and 24, PianoDan did the unthinkable and led a Nurgle team to two consecutive premierships. For this feat, PianoDan is considered among the greatest coaches ever in the SWL. The Stinkers were renowned for their defense, only conceding 70 TDs in their 76 game career, leading to a record of 44/11/21.

We Fink Wer Orks
— Laviak
#16 | Seasons 12-31 | Games 125
WFWO joined SWL in Season 12 in the hands of future Commissioner Laviak. They played 125 games in the SWL, finishing with a record of 69/18/38. They were the first Amazon team to make the Premiership division and the first Amazon team to win an SWL Premiership in season 31 before retiring.

Echoes of the Great Song
— Rabid_Bogscum
#17 | Seasons 12-23 | Games 80
An 80 game career for a wood elf team is much longer than usual in SWL. During their stint, EOTGS were lead by SWL Legend Touchstone, who has become the icon of scoring in SWL. Casualties took their toll on the team, and they departed SWL with a record of 36/6/38. More than that, though, EOTGS will be remembered for their storyline and contribution to fluff at the time.

Woodies Double Double
— erikekers
#18 | Seasons 13-23 | Games 78
The team that started a franchise. WDD were coached to 2 Premiership victories by erikekers over a 78 game period where they went 52/9/17, scoring 192 touchdowns in the process. Their titles were won in Season 18 and 22 with two well-prepared runs for which coach erikekers would become famous.

BBQ Wednesday Regulars
— danielcollins
#19 | Seasons 16-35 | Games 128
A classic team that featured prominently during one of SWL's golden periods. With a record of 68/23/37 over 128 games, you would think they would have a cabinet full of Premiership trophies. However, the Regulars will be remembered for their 2nd place finishes and controversial match reports that are etched into the character of the league. Of which there exists a carefully curated selection.

Bouilloires De Chaux
— ClayInfinity
#20 | Seasons 17-28 | Games 74
Frenchmen! Remarkably, the SWL Premiership was won 3 seasons in a row by a Nurgle team in LRB4. After The Stinkers went back to back, ClayInfinity finally cracked another Premiership title after a long break from the top. Lead by Gâteau D'Anniversaire the Bouilloires oozed French charm and flavor becoming a fan favorite at the time.

Ecclesiarchs of Unsanity
— Snorri
#21 | Seasons 17-21, 23 | Games 38
Undead cannot win a Premiership they said. They don't play well at high Team Rating, they said. Then along came the great Snorri and proved everyone wrong by winning Undead's first-ever Premiership since the teams got established. However, their victory was controversial as the Eccleiarchs hired the Count for most matches that season. Still, no one can deny the achievement of winning a Premiership with Undead.

Agitate
— eagle009
#22 | Seasons 19-36 | Games 121
High Elves have had a tough time of it in SWL. Agitate were perhaps the best High Elf team from the LRB4 era, with a record of 46/31/44 and numerous top 4 finishes in the Premiership division. However, what will be remembered most about Agitate is the great nature in which games with Eagle009 were enjoyed. This made for some classic Premiership battles between other legendary SWL teams that are certainly memorable to those who were there.

Torturer's Picnic
— Patrician
#23 | Seasons 20-31 | Games 82
If you looked up Torturer's Picnic in the SWL dictionary, it would be the definition of choking. The Picnic were specialists at rushing to early Premiership leads that were seemingly insurmountable, only to lose it all in the final rounds. Their record of 51/12/19 reflects the coaching prowess Patrician possessed, however, at least when the pressure wasn't on.

Seekers of the Sepulchre
— Snorri
#24 | Seasons 22-38 | Games 79
Premiership champions in Season 28, the Seekers of Sepulchre were coach Snorri's final SWL team. Despite representing a race that is considered quite weak and had no success in SWL previously, Snorri led the Seekers to an overall record of 47/10/22. His tactical mastery of the pro elves will go down in folklore as he seemingly controlled games with just a handful of players on the pitch.

Stalingrad's White Stallions
— harvestmouse
#25 | Seasons 23-39 | Games 100
Another winner in the character department, the White Stallions, fought with the best of the SWL and narrowly missed out on claiming a Premiership on more than one occasion. Team captain, Boris Nuriev is remembered as one of the best SWL has seen as he represented his team with honor. The Stallions left the SWL with an evenly split record of 100 games for 37/26/37, which is quite decent considering how Norse fared at higher TVs in LRB4.

Woodies Double Revenge
— erikekers
#26 | Seasons 24-31 | Games 56
WDR won two Premierships (Seasons 27 and 30) during a period where they were consistently at the top of the Premiership division. This was no easy feat considering the level of competition at the time, with several other HOF teams featuring. They retired from competition with a record of 39/6/11.

Mort Avaritia
— OldBugman
#27 | Seasons 27-39 | Games 92
A positive casualty difference of 329 in 92 games played tells the tale of Mort Avaritia, who terrorized the league during the end of the LRB4 era. During this time, they smashed casualty-associated records and went on to win a Premiership in season 36. Their name still sends shivers up the spines of the coaches left who were unfortunate enough to play them.

Woodies Reunion Tour
— erikekers
#28 | Seasons 32-39 | Games 52
Coach erikekers once again proved his versatility, this time bringing Vampires to ultimate victory. With his trademark ability to build for the bigtime, erikekers coached the Reunion to not one but TWO premiership championships in a mere 52 games, losing only ten matches along the way. A feat that will surely never be matched by a Vampire coach in SWL.

Power Money Sex
— Tomay
#29 | Seasons 32-34 | Games 26
Although they weren't in the league for a long time, PMS dominated during their short stint. They are the only team in the modern era to win a Premiership in 3 seasons finishing with an astounding record of 23/2/1.

↑↑↑ LRB4 ↑↑↑↓↓↓ CRP ↓↓↓

— Balle2000
#30 | Seasons 40-53, 55-70 | Games 204
Amongst the list of great Norse teams in SWL, Wonga Wonga stands out clearly ahead of the pack as the most successful. One of only three teams to win more than 3 Premierships, the Whalekilleers go beyond this to be known as one of SWLs most successful teams, period. Not only do they have 4 Premiership titles and are still playing, but their team's character and fluff are also second to none. When all is said and done, we will compile the records, but for now, enjoy the show. It's a ripper. [To be updated]

Large Head-on Colliders
— Barre
#31 | Seasons 40-67 | Games 181
LHC won back to back titles in Seasons 46 and 47. Around the same time they had a few close shaves with Premiership glory, but are responsible for finally getting Barre the title that had eluded him previously. The Colliders combined two legendary Bull Centaurs with a few explosive blockers to be a dominant force during the establishment phase of CRP. [To be updated.]

Blackwater Sting
— Chavo (Foad)
#32 | Seasons 40-58 | Games 124
Along with the Black Swans, the Blackwater Sting were a presence in the initial days of SWL CRP. Over 124 games, the Sting finished with an admirable 66/25/33, which, compared to the Black Swans, suggests they should have won at least a Premiership. They didn't. Instead, the Sting dominated Conferences and fell just short of Premiership glory for coach Chavo. The Sting will be remembered for featuring the Big 3, with their three stat freak legends dominating their lineup for most of the team's lifespan.

Black Swans
— Irgy
#33 | Seasons 40-56 | Games 118
The Black Swans are likely to be remembered as the team that first brought Irgy Premiership success. However, they were a constant factor during the early seasons of CRP within Premiership and Conference divisions. With over 100 games under their belt, the Swans retired with a 58/24/36 record, including a win in the first-ever URN. Their star player Jetta will be remembered as the crippled legend.

Tribute to Alan Parsons
— polemarch
#34 | Seasons 40-56 | Games 110
It's fair to say that Slann were always going to have a tough time in the SWL. While several Slann coaches were in the league during the early days of the CRP changeover, the Tribute swiftly became everyone's favorite underfrogs. While they enjoyed limited success in their 110 game career, they did manage to compete for the premiership flag. The true success of the team was in its fans, fans who showed up to witness and commiserate the death of Limelight, and who will always remember the catch-cry of "boing Boing BOING SPLAT!"

Mort Volente
— OldBugman
#35 | Seasons 40-51, 53 | Games 73
Although slightly less terrifying than their predecessors, Mort Volente was THE brutal force of SWL during the initial CRP period. They were also the first team to win the Premiership after the change in the ruleset, earning a spot in the history books.

Public Service Announcement
— Daudy
#36 | Seasons 46-70 | Games 155[ASC]
PSA will be remembered as one of the best teams during the establishment phase of CRP. Coach Daudy rose through the ranks to become the first coach in the modern era to win a Premiership on his first crack. An overall record of 41/17/17 demonstrates the coaching prowess shown by Daudy, who managed to win back-to-back Premierships in Seasons 50 and 51 and a crucial victory in the first-ever URN competition. [To be updated.]

Intoxicated Mayhem
— Erickan
#37 | Seasons 40-62 | Games 148
They may not have a Premiership in the trophy, but boy did they come close. Intoxicated Mayhem kicked off their career at the CRP restart and played 148 games in the SWL, including ten seasons in Prem! With an overall winning record, I-Mayhem will be remembered for their dominance of the Conference divisions with four titles. They threatened to break the Orc Premiership curse only to fall just short on multiple occasions. I-Mayhem tested the salary cap limits with the core of their roster, boasting 11 players with over 80 games, with 4 of them amassing over 200 SPP. This truly impressive juggernaut of consistency was certainty a force throughout their career.

Wäŋa Warriors
— DrDiscoStu
#38 | Seasons S54-S62, S64-S67 | Games 96
The team to break the SWL’s Orc curse, the Warriors lifted the Premiership in season LXII. They came close to following it up in Season LXV (finishing equal first but losing on countback to rivals Slumbering Skink). They also won 2 Conference and a Regional title. More impressive perhaps was that the Warriors won in an era featuring clawpomb kill stacks with an old-fashioned mark them up and grind them down style. Along with the first Orc premiership title, the Warriors will also be remembered for their media presence – coach DrDiscoStu providing unprecedented access to his game plans with video breakdowns of his philosophy and play.

Blackwater Glee Club
— Foad
#39 | Seasons 59-61, 63-70 | Games 97
3 Peat! The Blackwater Glee Club won 3 straight Premierships toward the end of the CRP era, following it up by narrowly missing out on a 4th and then finishing runners-up in the ASC – the final season of CRP. Clearly, the Glee Club dominated the end of CRP. A team full of stars in their prime. A roster full of capable killers, two of the sexiest agile beastmen you could dream up, all supported by the perfect mix of utility. Foad has always been a strong team builder, but the Glee Club probably fielded the most glorious roster ever to grace an SWL pitch.

— Luohghcra
#40 | Seasons 48-65 | Games 109
The Sphinxes will be most remembered for their brutal fouling, longevity and colourful team theme. While their record of 32/33/44 may not look fantastic, it is probably as good as a long-term Khemri team could do in the CRP era. They did take out two Conference and a Regional title during their career and make a nuisance of themselves in the Premiership division on multiple occasions. Amongst a roster filled with brutal Tomb Guardians, it was Karma Man who became the most notorious; at one stage owning the all-time fouling record, taking out numerous Twahnlow boots and memorably killing Foul Frank to claim the first Black Pearl. When you played the Sphinxes, you knew that your team was going to be bashed and kicked mercilessly, but it was hard not to enjoy it with coach Luohghcra’s disarming personality. A fan favorite, the Sphinxes, were amongst the most spectated teams in a golden era for SWL participation and engagement.

— cdwat
#41 | Seasons 53-70 | Games 133
The Griffon Gate Sentinels revolutionised team-based fluff in the SWL. The Sentinels became the benchmark for team pride with an exceptional biography meticulously maintained, a fantastic logo, and a consistent, recognizable theme. The team then went on to start the faction movement in the SWL by introducing the HEROES concept uniting the High Elf teams across the league. Though they celebrated all their decent players, the three main stars of the Sentinels were undoubtedly Iolas, Kantil and Falearn. The Sentinels amassed 133 games in the SWL and enjoyed some success with two Conference and a Regional championship. Their career finished at the conclusion of CRP with a record of 50/29/54.

SWL Fun Police
— Semitence
#42 | Seasons 56-69 | Games 110
Semitence’s Fun Police made their intentions clear from the start; to cause as much destruction as possible in the league. Causing 515 casualties in 110 games would certainly be considered a success. While their opponents certainly feared seeing the Fun Police in their schedule, it was for more reasons than just the potential destruction of their team. The Fun Police maintained an excellent record (60/17/33). They won the 2nd Bob Borc Cup after finalling the 1st and were mainstays in the Premiership division. With several legends in their roster, they certainly deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame and will be remembered as perhaps the most feared team of the CRP era.

Error 404 afterlife not found
— Samaranthae
#43 | Seasons 58-66, 69-70 | Games 79
Two time Premiership Champions, twice runners up and with two Conference Championships, Error 404 boast an impressive resume. As the team that un-forlorned Necromantic in LXI, they went on to win the final Premiership in CRP in LXX nine seasons later. Many of Samaranthae’s game reviews and analysis can be found in the old forum threads, a worthy read for any coach looking to improve their positional play. Known for maintaining solid defensive structures to allow the best sniper in the league, Huge Axeman (114 Cas in 78 games) to pick off the enemy – Error 404 were brilliantly coached, finishing with a record of 47/18/14 and with a positive casualty differential of 208!

Bribery and Corruption
— tussock
#44 | Seasons 61-70 | Games 82
It is unlikely that we will ever see a Goblin team as strong as Bribery and Corruption’s take the field in the SWL again. B&C maintained a Goblin roster above the 200TV range for several seasons in one of the most blood-thirsty eras for the league. In that time, B&C made the Conferences twice and put in respectable showings, a great achievement for the stunties. Players such as Dirty Pool, Kickbacks and Thieving showed what was possible for longevity in the careers of goblin star players in the league. Bribery and Corruption, a fan favorite and widely loved team, will long be remembered as the stunty kings of their era.

The Urn

It is the longest, most passionate debate in the Old World…

Which Blood Bowl League Institution is the strongest?

Whenever this question is asked, inevitably, the conversation focuses on the two big leagues – the SWL and the WIL.

The Southerners always argue that they have been playing the game the longest and that Northerners merely imitate the real deal.

Those from the White Isle argue that their “modern league” has refined the concept and attracts greater talent from a much larger pool.

Finally, the two institutions have had enough of the talk and have agreed to settle the debate with a tournament. These two old rivals clash for coveted rights to lift an ancient Blood Bowl relic.

The five best teams from each league will battle it out to decide which league gets to take home the URN.

But really, it’s about much more than that.
