The Bulldogs today rejoined the winners circle they have long been members of, winning their first game of Blood Bowl in the CTL. In a relatively dour match.. the Bulldogs got away with the 2-1 win thanks to a late TD from "Turvey". The Doggies looked in trouble early, failing to protect Mortimer and having the ball knocked free, after a bit of a scramble "Cement" emerged with the ball, dashing upfield in a very uncharacteristic run. He was assisted in this by the opposing Troll Slayer Doomfighter pushing him closer to the end zone and bringing him within range, of which he capitalised with a dodge and the teams very first TD. Now more experienced Blood Bowl coaches will argue that the TD was too early in the half, however it is the mandate of wazza Ryan to bring back "The Entertainers" and thats what the game plan was. The short fellas..again mythical players as far as this reporter is concerned, hit back and hit back well. Rockmountain going in late in the half to tie the scores. The second half was brutal.. with fights breaking out over the ball as it was fumbled and carted slowly up the field by the dwarfs of Barak Varr. Step up the little general. Steve "Turvey" Mortimer launched a solo blitz apon a dwarven blitzer.. regathering then charging the length of the field to score the winning TD. All around his teamates hampered the scrambling defence of the Hammers.. cheering the little fella all the way. Particularly pleasing for coach Ryan must be the never say die attitude of his players. Not just in the way they scrambled in defense and recovered from setbacks to score long range rushing TD's but indeed with their "Never Say Die" Physical attitude. With Daryl Halligan dragging his carcass up from the field despite the notable problem of being killed again, while Folkesy shrugged off a smashed hand to rejoin his teammates. Excellent winnings see's the purchase of a playing kit for Brent "Shifty" Sherwin, not sure how valuable his short kicking game will be in this sport.. but still a handy little customer to have. All in all a strong, gutsy but fortuitous game for the Bulldogs. They can only get better at this game.... right?
