#5 Rodney Skinner – Dead (RIP)
Allan Quatemain studied his mangled forearm with a look of bemusement as severed tendons and crushed muscles knitted themselves slowly together again. He no longer sought to uncover the source of the necromancy that must have risen him and his comrades from their slumber but the beneficial side effects of his new existence never failed to surprise him.

"The match is over. The news is not good, I fear." Quatemain looked up to see the figure of Dorian Gray standing in the entrance of the knockout box, gloves draped delicately over his sleeve. Even in death Gray's features maintained much of the boyhood beauty that he had bought at such a terrible cost to his soul. But now a scowl twisted those fair features.

"We lost? But the humans were so few! How could it happen?" Quatemain winced as he leaned forward. Regenerative he may be, but some things still hurt quite a bit.

"With you off the pitch the league lost focus. The good Dr. Jekyll lost control of his better half and seemed to spend most of the match wandering around the empty middle of the pitch. Harker and I tried to level the field but otherwise our massacre turned into a rout."

Quatemain sighed heavilly. This would not please the League's new masters. "The score Gray. The score."

"2-1. Oh yes, one more thing. Skinner's dead. He got cocky."

Quatemain did not look up, but nevertheless saw the bloodstained helmet that Dorian Gray tossed at his feet.

"I'm sure he'll be back, if not in the same form. Our masters wouldn't let him out of our agreement that easily. How could this happen? Don't tell me about tactics, luck or bloodlust. We knew what we faced. What in mercy's name happened out there!?" Quatemain realised he was shouting. He had to get a grip on himself. This was not how it was supposed to go.

If Gray was impressed he didn't show it. For a moment he didn't speak, as if searching for an answer that would satisfy Quatemain. At last he spoke.

"Davros."

"Who?"

"The blitzer Davros Hugz. He killed Skinner, organised the survivors and scored their final touchdown. If I was to lay the blame for this at feet other then our own, I'd lay it at his."

"Davros, you say? Well we shall watch his progression with great interest. I'll wager he has not heard the last of our league. Find out what you can about him and report back to me. There will be a reckoning yet."

Footsteps echoing into the distance was the only response that Dorian Gray gave. Alone again, Quatemain closed his eyes and began to set himself to the task of working out how to target this new threat...

// Good game Twahn. Told you that early luck wouldn't hold. :) //

The lads were, at first, reluctant to face up for this game; a game that, in their minds, was sure to spell death and injury for most of their number. If it wasn't for Mr. Swan's rousing eulogy at Dannyboy's funeral the night before, the 8 United players who were deemed fit to play would probably have had many prior engagements on game day.
As it was though, they ran onto the field to the screaming adoration of their many fans. Carlton United were going to give us a show!

Receiving in the First, they were immediately at full stretch to defend against the Gentlemen's superior numbers. A valiant battle was fought, but the dead inevitably managed to break through and score the opener.

Obviously fired up by their initial success, Carlton's opponents wasted no time in once again jumping to the attack, Blitzing their way forward, with Quartermain managing to catch the kick. This was the end to his contributions, however, as he was quickly knocked to the ground where he mysteriously suffered game ending injuries without 'Skullface' Gibson even touching him. A scrum quickly developed around the ball and continued until half time.

Going on the attack for the first time, United did so eagerly, passing the ball forward to Bazman as the second half started. Sprinting for the line, Bazman was caught by Dorian Grey and tackled with a ferocity that would have seen both players missing the rest of the game if not for Dorians regenerative abilities.

Duke Snakefield, swooped upon the ball, running forward and finding only Rodney the Ghoul between him and the line. As one body, the crowd rose in excitement... Duke halted his run... Rodney snarled viciously...
Suddenly, Davros burst into the scene, his studded fist leaving nought but a bloodied trail where Rodney's head had been but a second before.
The scores were level and the crowd was going wild.

The second half was coming to an end and both teams were desperate to get that winning Touchdown. An unbelievably long bomb from the Gentlemen saw the ball end up in the steady hands of Dorian Grey. A great defensive effort from the 4 remaining Carlton players on the field though saw 'the Dr.' once again turn hero as, fighting with the fury of desperation, they managed to wrest the ball free from it's deathly keepers and slam it one last time over the line.

The League tried valiantly to equalise in the dying minutes but time just ran out in the end. Carlton United has achieved what many thought would be impossible. Coming into the game hoping only that no more of their number would be decimated, they had actually managed to come away with the points!!
