#5 Bob Shaftoe – Broken Ribs (MNG)
#5 Bob Shaftoe – Smashed Knee (NI)
#12 Anne Hyde – Dead (RIP)
For the first time they boys (and girls) of Argento Vivo take the field against a band of ogres, and to bolster their number they decide to call in a friend, namely Count Luthor von Drakenberg [note: this was arranged pre-game, with fathead graciously accepting his presence on my roster].

First half saw the undead slowly creep toward the endzone, with the ball safely in the Count's hands, without any serious damage done to either team (as usual mummies were more puching-balls than hitters, and the blows I could land on gobbos did little besides a single KO).

1-0 on turn 8, time for TTM attempt... failed.

Second half begins rather innocently, with the ogres protecting the ball waiting for an opening to slip a goblin thru, or to prepare an easier TTM attempt. The undead try to counter this move by running downfield a tackler wight and a sidestepping ghoul, but the Ogre's retribution is quick and brutal: the wight is seriously injuried, while the ghoul is left on the pitch very very dead.

Elsewhere on the field zombies start to get pasted (as they usually do), and the undead are left with not too many men on the floor... but the ogres cannot capitalize due some misfortunes in ball handling.

A couple turns later, it's again TTM time... the gobbo goes on air but stumbles on landing! The undead have secured victory.

---

This is been a very fun game against a very competent opponent, who clearly knew what to do with his ogres. Ogres which actually behaved very nicely, missing only few boneheads, and fluking but a pair of blocks on overall.

A 1-1 could have been very possible and would have left very little room for recrimination, but of course I'm happy to take the victory, and the glorious money which will allow for a quick rebuilding of the team.

See you again on the pitch! :)

***edit***
After getting the MVP, I FINALLY have a mummy with block! Oh, the joy!

Going into this match against an opponent with a ST5 AG4 blodger, I knew that I would probably tie at best. However, it is rare that my team gets challenged at all when looking for a game, and with an interesting twist (the count) and a lack of blockers on the opponent's team, I couldn't resist.

As much as I hate opponents stalling, it is one of a few tactics that is useful against ogres, and I much prefer a stalling opponent over a DP opponent (neither team bothered to throw a single foul). The end of the first half was miserable, but overall it was a very pleasing match.

My opponent gave a very good breakdown of the game - I might add that the second half was as dissapointing as it was bloody. Only 20k in the bank with a big crowd, but at least my FF didn't decrease. Rematch anytime without that cursed vampire! Coaches with a good attitude can be hard to find.
