Fumbbl Cup CR Qualifier I Final.

Spreading DK brought 16 rats to the game, going through the first 2 games unhurt. They also had the spare cash for a wizard, very good vs dwarves! The Beards brought 14 players, including Zara the Slayer. She played today instead of the usual Grim because our spies had told us that the rats had very little training in taking down the more agile, elusive players. Also the Beards brought in a Rune Smith, who made a rune of courage for Obel.

The rats opted to recieve first. They opened up one side, and proceeded to foul Hammerstone on that side, but with no damage. Pumice then hit back in my turn 1, Badly hurting the best DK player, Toxid Doomwind!
The rats kept their ag5 runner at the back with the ball, trying to open up different parts of the field. The dwarves kept pounding runners into the ground, but no more damage there. When they finally felt the need to score, they did so with little resistance, scoring in turn 6.

With 3 turns for the dwarves to equalise the situation looked almost exactly as it did the game before, and that time it succeeded. This time we got hit by a Blitz! by the rats. They ran through, but couldn't reach the ball. Crannog took it and hoped to stand fast with Blodge, but the wizard was brought in and Crannog went down to another lightning bolt in another qualifier final, just like FC IV! Runner easily made 0-2.

Now things looked really bad, but the rats defense set up far back, allowing all of the faster Beards to run forward as much as they could (made 10 gfi or so without failing). The rats closed in. Zara dodged out and blitzed her way through, and star thrower of the Beards, Trilithon, made the crucial Long Bomb to score 1-2 before half time.

We recieved and once more got hit by Blitz! This time the rats failed to bring down the dwarves blocking the way, but still managed to get 2 runners through. 1 of them caught the kick-off and I had troubles in getting 3d on it, but managed to do so and it went down. The ball bounced on my longbeard who dropped it onto the other, ag5, runner who caugt it! A 2d block with no tackle was lucky enough to bring that one down as well, and Zara moved in to pick up the ball. The rats had no tackle on the field, and while they did get 2d on the first turn after that, they never got in any real position to threaten the ball again. I moved up-field, bashing as I went. After a bit there was not much for DK to do and they tried instead to get rid of my Stand Firm players, hoping to be able to make a 1-turn TD in the last turn of the game. That fighting went on far away from the ball that I had next to his endzone. In my turn 7 I felt very secure and decided to hand it over to Obel, to give him a second skill, instead of scoring with Zara again. He drops the ball on a rerolled try. For the very last turn of the game Obel tries once more to pick up the ball with a reroll but fails and Flix wins 1-2.

Moving away from the ball and hoping that I'd fumble it was probably the best the rats could do to stop my score, and Flix did so. Sometimes we played well, and sometimes not. What we can say is that we don't know what would have happened in overtime, and Flix might very well have won the game anyway.

Silly ending, but an interesting game. Flix made it through qualifiers without injuries? Lucky bastard!
