#5 Esmilin Udo – Smashed Knee (NI)
The sun was unbearable and threw it's blinding fists at both teams as the players took on the field. The Dandelions recieved the ball and rushed down the left side with QB Jolanin Moontána in the backfiled with the ball. With only ten players the Dandelions were outnumbered from the beginning and Identity Unknown quickly used their superior numbers to swoop down on the Dandelions. War Dancer Carall Eskilduhr found himself surrounded by defenders, made a dodge and threw a blitz against a lonely defender covering reciever Hapelohr. The road was cleared and Moontána threw a perfect spiral for a Hapelohr TD.
On the following kick off both teams had several players benched due to the heat. Even Regie White Oak was out getting watered.
The ball was kicked off and the Dandelions took Identity Unknown by surprise with a blitz and soon found themselves in scoring position. The ball was knocked around in the back field, and both teams had trouble getting to it. When the dust settled War Dancer Lothael Arlaín found found the ball in his hands and rushed toward the end zone. The crowd fell silent, Arlaín went for it, couldn't stay on his feet, the coach shouted his loungs out, Arlaín got a second shot and... fell flat on his face. Identity Unknown weren't late to pick up the ball, pass it down field and a hand off later star blitzer Silent Running ran in the ball for a TD. The score was 1-1 and it was anybody's game.
Both teams managed to put points on the board put in the second half injuries caught up with the Dandelions and otherwise swift wood elves looked tired and fragile with only eight players one the field. Still full in numbers Identity Unknown surrounded the Dandelions and in the final turn Silent Running ran in his third TD of the game, making the score 4-3 to Identity Unknown.
The Dandelions had one last turn left, eight players and no rerolls. Young reciever Alvi Hapelohr had played an impressive game with 3 TDs but not even he was fast enough to reach the end zone in one turn. It would take an unbelievable play and a whole lot of luck not to walk away as loosers. The pro elves were celebrating at the sideline and their forrest counterparts had almost given up hope.
The coach put his players on the field in a formation the wood elves had practised all week and waited for the kick off. The ball landed deep in the Dandelions' territory, Carall Eskilduhr blitzed, Arlain blocked, lineman Arodall threw another block and all of a sudden the young Hapelohr found himself down field. Cool as ice Moontána picked up the ball and threw a perfect spiral to Hapelohr. With the ball under his arm Hapelohr sprinted down field towards the right corner of the field, closed his eyes and took two last shivering steps towards the endzone. Even the birds held their breaths. As Hapelohr opened his eyes the crowd went nuts and Identity Unknown stood shocked, numb with disbelief. The Dandelions had scored and the game had ended 4-4.
A draw - but what a draw.
