Forgive us our absentmindedness in delivering our latest tales of triumph - for the climax of such glory was proceeded with such great celebration that we forgot to send our report to Vanyar. But we hope now that it heralds safely on your desk.

With our position as a Ring representative for the Freeworld looking very good, our last game to be held in the realm of man, Akallabêth, would be very interesting indeed.

3 points separated us and Akallabêth, and they themselves were level with the Isolationists, the campaign for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and potentially a joint 1st finish for us would be decided now!

Against one of the toughest teams, on paper, in the Freeworld, our aim was to secure a draw and avoid injury so when we received the kickoff we decided to try for a quick score.

Some ineffectual blocks and a pitiful blitz made it difficult to manoeuvre for a quick score, further compounded by some nice defensive cover. We continued to move about the pitch, zigzagging from flank to flank until finally making a breakthrough and scoring with a quarter of the game gone… at one point we even had an opportunity to gang foul their Star Blitzer, but our kind hearts could not allow us to do such a cowardly act.

A bad kick out of bounds gave Akallabêth a great chance to level the score and so they gave the ball to their Ogre who was greedy for glory, and confident that he would not be put down. Our LOS disintegrated before them and a blitz followed by a callous foul from their DP seriously injured one of our players… as the injury would only keep him from the next game, we ordered the apoth to hang fire… likely the humans had not done yet.

Combined with a bone headed play and some man to man marking the score was prevented and the win was now on for us.

The second half and another Akallabêth drive. This time they got the ball to a more capable player and off they went, fouling another player into the KO box… they had now angered us. We pressured them into an early score and prepared our rebuttal.

The remainder of the half is a haze to us; such was the nature of our frenzied disposition. By the end of the second half that saw us stall to the end, we recall putting most of Akallabêth players in the injury box, players fleeing from us, or playing dead and us sticking two gang foul boots in before finishing the game 2 – 1.

It is clear now… the Rings of Power are close to hand, but their corrupting properties are closer still filling our hearts with poisoned hate and coursing through our veins, leading us to actions that would otherwise leave us shunned by even our own brethren. In troubled times, we must remain stoic and steadfast.

Taken me a while to get around to this. :)

GG Borup. I considered myself fortunate enough that I didn’t end up with more injuries… were it not that you gave the ball to the Ogre I’m sure we would have likely drawn this game.

GL with the coin toss.
