It really was a mixed bag and the Dead Boys were lucky to get Iron Man for Grint to keep the ST4 / Jump up Ghoul on the field. He proved pivotal to the success of the match providing a strong carrier to punch through and he picked up 2 TDs for his trouble... it could have been his 2nd hat-trick but the ghoul let one of his team mates grab the glory of a TD.

The game started very ominously with Prince Necros rolling quad skulls first turn, first block... The Count began to fear that he wasn’t going to be taking much from this game. Thankfully as the elves surged forward into the Dead boys half they managed to apply enough pressure to force an early TD.

So the Dead Boys tried again and this time the luck was a little better with the ghouls surging forward and making fantastic headway into the elves half.

The first half ended with the Dead Boys 2-1 and kicking for the 2nd so the Count played the risky "force score, slow walk" technique and sure enough the elves just could not quite muster the man power to stop the rolling wave of walking corpses after swiftly levelling the scoreline.

The CAS came from a multitude of areas and one of the Mummies was even CAS but a lucky regen roll brought him back to the pitch next drive. One of Stus Wardancers SI'd on a failed leap over the Dead Boys front line and this knocked both the dancers confidence as leaping didnt feature too highly after that. The Appo cured the dancer but as this was so early on there was a real risk of further injury and there were a couple.

King Rathor has finally skilled too so that is grand... great game Stu Im sorry for the stall but I had to get through to face Azure. The Woodies fought bravely and were just piped by the Dead Boys packing a punch.

Onwards to the next round... Azure... its you and me buddy.

#8 Gary 'Salty Leonard' Mabbutt – Broken Ribs (MNG)
#8 Gary 'Salty Leonard' Mabbutt – Smashed Knee (NI)
To be honest I don't think I was destined to win this one. I went into it hoping for a reasonable amount of elven luck, which probably would have been enough against an, all be it 16 man but lower TR, Undead team.

Things just went wrong for my team in lots of small ways and all that combined with his ST4 blodge Ghoul meant I couldn't apply pressure where it would have counted. I was living in hope of some quick ending turns for them from failed GFI's, dodges, blocks, passes/handoffs and pickups but they never came and then the real decider was the Blitz they got on kick-off in turn 6 of the first half. A score here would have meant receiving second half at 2-1 up but 1-1 wouldn't have been too bad. When he got under the kick though I tried to delay them and looked like I'd succeeded until a clean 1 dice block made a gap for them to score in turn 8.

We got an easy score to start the second half for 2-2 but that was it from there. Nothing happened to give us a sniff of the ball and stalling by the line was easy as pie for them considering we came in with 13 guys, which was then 12 after a virus and got slowly ground down to having about 9 for most of the 2nd half of the game.

All this leaves me wondering if the decision to save my pile of gold for stars in later rounds, had we got through this one, was the right thing to do. While Deeproot would have been nice to whack some of his hordes it probably wouldn't have changed the game that much as that wouldn't have changed how well his players handled the ball, the handicaps or the kick-off rolls either.

While events transpired to take the initiative of the game away for the Spurs, which is key for them, I've gotta say the Count did everything right and never got ahead of himself in moving the ball, much to my disappointment. Well played and good luck for the rest of the tourney.

Finally, now I'm out I'm gonna take a pop at picking a winner for the cup. There's some good teams left and I think it'll be Ratz vs Khemri in both semi's. In a final of Mummywell and Interationale I'm going with Mummywell. I'm gonna sign off now and can't wait to see you all in season 3 of the OBBA.
