The Brootle players had never played a match where filthy mud and driving rain made the opponents look better, and it took a full half for the shock to wear off, with Ogres trying to tackle opponents they refused to look at.

The game picked up in the second half, with the Brootle team managing a couple of injuries on the slime-coated Revulsion, and their fans rewarded them for the effort, even in a losing cause.
