Antipodal Regional Shield 9/08 - Final
-----------------------------------------------------
Gothenburg Geckos are hungry for titles and the final of the Antipodal Regional Shield was a prestigious event. The Waterdeep Ratskins were opponents, a skaven team fueled by 3 fantastic gutter runners and some other impressive key figures. They would turn out to be a little to brittle for the Geckos on this day though.

All nigglers on both teams arrived for the game, and the Geckos started with the ball. It didn't take more than a couple of turns for the KO box to start filling up, and with RealMadns being forced to use the apo early on to save the life of Famine II (RIP fouled by Inziloq, who got ejected when he went for another chance the following turn), it must have been a nervous battle. KO's was the theme of the day though and the Geckos managed something that is mostly reserved for the stunty league. A pitch clearance in the first half!

The Ratskins had 2 KO rolls though and could at least field 9 players for the second half, evening out the poor odds somewhat by fouling out Garuan early on their offensive drive. But this day the Geckos had the margins on their side, and the dive tacklers and other elements worked out very well, making it possible to get to the ball despite the agile opponents.

For a period of time it was chaotic on the pitch, when Hexitza failed a sprint over the end zone line and missed a TD, just to see Anger II do exactly the same for the opponents just a few minutes later. But eventually the Geckos could yet again grind down the skaven and box in the remaining players.

Hexitza, despite his poor performance on the above mentioned situation, scored both the TD's for the Geckos and bagged another title for the team!

Thanks for the match, RealMadns. I certainly had luck on my side in this one, but you deserve a lot of credit for keeping a good mood and gambling with your players health to try to overcome the odds! I look forward to our next meeting!
