Nuffle smiled upon the Mighty Underdogs in their first big match in the great Blackbox league. The opponents were short but feisty and obviously well trained, able to roll their mistakes into something less objectionable. In addition, they had five more little guys waiting on the bench as opposed to only one Human backup.

Highlights from the match:

* The mini-men won the kickoff but the Underdogs would have none of that. Just as Paul Herndlar swinged for the kickoff, Bjorn Toobiewild took off at a blistering pace, knocking out the poor Billy Darkstream who stood in his way and ran into the backfield, catching the Underdogs' own kickoff.

*The Halflings were able to overwhelm him and move the ball to the relative safety next to the two giant treemen. And one miniman kicked the Bjorn in his valuables as he lay on the ground.

*Archbald Gracetripsy, determined to retrieve the ball and avenge his teammate's parts, charged at Osmond Weakrock and in a display of swift justice removed its head from its shoulders. The apothecary of Pesti was seen shrugging and resuming to enjoy a nice cheese sandwitch.

*Pesti paid little attention to this incident - instead, one of the treemen flinged the ballcarrier fling high into the air towards the Underdogs' endzone. The fling landed effortlessly and sprinted forth. Touchdown!

*On the receiving end, the Underdogs managed to stun the opposition on the northern edge of the field and moved the ball across two thirds of the field in their first turn.

*Dmitri Kamõkazovan lived up to his name, throwing himself face first at a halfling and hurting it quite badly as he fell down.

*Archibald Gracetripsy, keeping with his already smashing performance, badly hurt a halfling who, again thrown across the field by the rooted treemen, attempted to tackle the ballcarrier. Dietrich Sweengboutzie swung his boots superbly and ran to the endzone for an equaliser.

*On turn 6, Archibald Gracetripsy was abruptly stopped by Snorky in a block that the former initiated.

*Niels Andprawposes, having snuck up between two treemen, had his efforts at communication thwarted by a branch to the face. He was badly hurt.

*At the start of the second half, the Halflings returned the favour and blitzed the Underdogs' front line before the ball had reached its highest. Luckily, Archibald Gracetripsy was able to anticipate the offense and put George Palewing on his back, securing the Underdogs' half from undesired penetration.

*Bernhard Thrauvin dropped the ball on the first offensive move and had it snatched up by Albert Silentorc from before his very nose.

*Bjorn Toobiewild would have none of it, blitzing the miniman and injuring it seriously. This time, the Pesti Apothecary was more than ready to please and Albert lived to fight more turns.

*The ball bounced off and landed within the reach of a treeman - a dangerous place to be. Bernhard Thrauvin, eager to make up for his earlier mistake, dodged out of a tacklezone, ran to the ball, picked it up and completed a beautiful long pass to Hans Onzebhall.

*Furthermore, Bernhard Thrauvin and Grigori Badarsovich, the latter also in the tree's swing range, took its immediately following attack on their persons with surprising cool and managed to topple the giant.

*Hans Onzebhall scored the second touchdown.

*The halflings, outnumbered 8 to 10 on the fourth kickoff, picked up the ball and Albert Silentorc fumbled a pass, dropping the ball at his feet.

*Archbald Gracetripsy's charge to clear the ball left poor Albert motionless on the field, unable to escape fate a second time.

*Dmirti Kamõkazovan, covering one of the trees, was able to catch the ball sent flying by Albert's carcass.

*Kim Jungblawd, seeing his teammate in danger, felled the much stronger treeman but not for long - it jumped back up, punched Dmitri in the FACE and tumbled over again from its leftover inertia.

*Bjorn Toobiewild, seeing the ball free again as the minutes counted down, grabbed it and trotted towards the sweet lull of the Pesti endzone.

*Bernhard Thrauvin, this time without the assistance of Badarsovich, was able to deflect the other treeman's advance once again. He went down but brought the bigtimer down with him.

*Bjorn Toobiewild scored the Underdogs' third touchdown with just seconds left until the whistle.

In conclusion, it was an amazing game for the Mighty Underdogs, an exceptional performance. Stars of the match were undoubtedly the well-earned MVP Bernhard Thrauvin for his amazing recovery and repeated successful defense against Treemen and Archibald Gracetripsy for killing two people and thwarting a dangerous blitz effort. Of course, they could not have done it without the teammembers.

lugiak was a fun opponent - I would not have moved first with the non-rerollable treemen so many times but undoubtedly the Mighty Underdogs had a bit more luck this time around. Best of luck to your Halflings. :)
