“First round of Scheduled Smack Pro XXII.

Always a risk taking zons for a tournament, and I got my just desserts by drawing dwarves in the first round. That said there were only 11 of them, and no dp, so I hoped I could make some kind of progress.

I hired a wiz to help me get through the guarders, but lost the toss to receive. Despite a BH on the opening block, the zons more or less held their own facing off against repeated pows (who needs tackle!).

I employed the wiz who KOd the runner and floored 2 longbeards, freeing me to have a shot at the ball. Unfortunately I knocked a troll slayer onto the ball and it bounced back into the cage :(

Much tooing and froing ensued, but eventually I stole the ball and had the chance to hurl it to a free zon and into the clear. She dropped it. Sadly the dwarves were able to recover and eventually open the scoring.

I had BH a guarder, for the loss of two blodgers in the BH bin myself, but Mossbeard had to use is apo early.

Second half it was a different story. The zons began to get numbers up with some lucky KOs. I was conscious of saving rerolls though, as I felt confident I could bring the game to OT. I eventually broke through with my thrower, but she fell when trying to sprint clear of the dwarves. But nuffle smiled on the Ouiseaux though as a dwarf repeated the feat legging it after the women. I was forced to score in turn 7, with a dwindling number of players...

Fortunately for me, Mossbeard overreached himself trying for the winner and let me a simple 2 dice on the only player who could score and the chance was gone. Fortune again shone on me as I won the toss for OT and a quick KO saw it as 8 vs 8.

Taking it slowly the zons advanced up the pitch attempting to prevent longbeards from getting anywhere on defence. Eventually Constanza ran clear with the ball and a guard friend and was able to hang on until turn 6. This still left the dwarves 3 turns and despite marking the ag3 player and forcing Mossbeard to roll dice he still managed the equaliser in the final turn.

And so it went to the coin toss and this time Les Ouiseaux triumphed. Great game Mossbeard, real back and forward effort. Looking forward to a rematch sometime!”
