This was my 101st game on FUMBBL, and my 1st ever championship game in a tournament.

My opponent was about 20 TR lower due to some forfeits early in the tournament, but he had a solid team and sound tactics. His handicap was Doom & Gloom. Can you imagine, my masters of the macabre suffering from fear and doubt? Unthinkable, and yet my rerolls were cut in half nonetheless. On top of that, he got a Blitz! on the kickoff, but my Flesh Golems held firm. I spent my first and only reroll for the half on picking up the ball, which I thought was not a good omen. After that, my team settled down and despite fierce resistance from the Justice Society, they were able to move down the field and Ulfhednar Hexenverr scored. The ensuing kickoff resulted in the Crusaders getting the ref! But the Justice Society had 6 turns to score. The ball itself landed in the corner of his endzone, so I was feeling pretty good. Ulfhednar even fouled Cyclone into the KO box. I underestimated the Justice Society, and my opponent made me pay. His Thrower Wildfire retrieved the ball, throwing it down the field and opening up a nice running lane for Power Girl to run through. Despite my efforts, Power Girl was able to score on turn 5 with 2 GFIs. I managed to get a reroll on the next kickoff and started advancing the ball. I thought I was going to score again, having covered Ulfhednar fairly well. Not well enough! A few key blocks and Cyclone was able to get free and put a lick on the ball-carrier. Justice Society Lineman Hourman recovered and managed to get it to Damage, but the half ran out with Damage literally 3 paces from scoring. The 2nd half started with me getting all my rerolls back and a Blitz! on the kickoff. The ball was pinned on the sideline and just out of reach of Wildfire, so he wisely covered it up. I was able to put 2 players on Wildfire, but Damage sprung Wildfire free and with a timely dodge he picked up the ball and scampered out. Then to make matters worse he tossed the ball to Lineman Obsidian and the chase was on. A lot of pushing, shoving, kicking and biting and Obsidian was poised for the score. I forced him to make a dodge, which he did. Then my opponent got a tad greedy and did a GFI. This wasn't necessarily a mistake as I had a werewolf who could have blitzed him with a GFI of my own, and he had a reroll. However, Nuffle was not kind to him and Obsidian fell down, stunning himself in the process. Not one to pass up an opportunity, I quickly moved Ulfhednar and Melmoth to cover the ball. Then Nuffle struck my opponent again, when Damage KO'd himself trying to block Loup-Garou. Not content to just harass my opponent, Nuffle hindered Ulfhednar's first attempt to pick up the ball, but I got it on the 2nd try. I quickly advanced behind a wall of defenders, and though he made a valiant effort my opponent couldn't get a hit on the ball-carrier. Then a timely blitz by Loup-Garou combined with a dodge by Ambrosio to cover them and the 2 werewolves advanced to the endzone where Ulfhednar scored the winning TD in turn 8.

An exciting finish to an incredible match. I was happy with my first victory and my opponent was fun and gracious to play against. He nearly pulled off the upset but for the untimely failed GFI. I hope in his next tournament he doesn't get saddled with so many forfeits early. Thanks, Shane70, for an awesome game in my first every 145 Rookie championship.
