“UI V Quarter Final

"Avast!" screamed Guybrush, "We be setting sail into the Quarter Finals!" This time the humans were drawn vs a dark elf team who impressed in the qualifiers. Both teams had called on the services of a wizard and the humans had again called on their ally Count von Drakenborg. As the swashbucklers made their way to the stadium they spotted coach Lycian pumping up his star blitzer, Adri, with ILLEGAL DRUGS. The Pirates were furious and gave chase to the elves, the unfortunate Nico was taking his pregame nap and when caught he was forced into an insult sword fight! "Your arms are no bigger than fleas I have met." tried Nico, "So that's why you're scratching, I'd go see a vet." and with a swipe of his sword Guybrush cut Nico's Hands clean off! He jumped up and buzzed off in a frenzy, but certainly wouldn't be himself for the game!

As the dark elves kicked off the crowd cheered, this was the biggest game either of the teams had ever played! Many have criticised the inclusion of Governor Elaine Marley, due to her lack of strength, saying it's only because guybrush is smitten with her. She answered all critics with the opening block of the game, seriously injuring a guarding elf. Cutthroat Bill was soon to join the action and stuck his boot into another prone elf from the los causing a niggling injury! Unfortunately for Lycian it was so early in the game his apothecary was yet to get to the stadium and could therefore not be called upon.

With the ball in the count's safe hands the humans started a slow drive down a flank. Cutthroat Bill caused a 2nd cas on his 2nd foul but was also ejected from the game. After 4 or 5 turns Lycian's dice had been truly terrible, snaking dodges and unable to break any human's armour. As the humans stretched to get into position to stall Lycian took his chance and ordered his wizard to shoot a fireball toward the count, direct hit! and with 2 ag5 players on hand the elves easily recovered it and ran off up the pitch. Next turn and the humans set chase, however they had 2 horrible turns, Griswold Goodsoup - who had had such a great game in round 1 - was eager to use his diving tackle to tie up some supporting elves, but in his haste he snaked his gfi and badly hurt himself! The elves took no risks and scored in t7 of the first half, against the kick.

Short on players Lycian couldn't realy set up a proper OTS defence and Largo Legrande set up to be chainpushed to a one turn score. However the crowd were in such uproar from the elven turnover and score that they burst through the hoardings and invaded the pitch, stunning the pacey catcher. So we went into half time 0-1 to the elves with them receiving the ball 2nd half.

Lycian was short on players so decided to keep the ball deep with his thrower and send forward 3 receivers in hope of a fast TD for 2-0. All the humans could do was mark up and hope the agile elves failed a roll. Stan didn't hear the orders and couldn't resist booting a prone witch elf, and although he was harshly ejected the witch was also dragged off the pitch, seriously injured.

So it came down to 1 cruical turn, would the elven passing play work to secure the 2-0 or would the humans get another chance. Adri bravely dodged and blitzed a teammate free as the thrower moved up the pitch and tossed the ball. From a distance the receiver was seen hopping up and down, flailing his stubby arms. As the ball came down from the sky the crowd took to their feet in anticipation... The ball soared towards the #9, the perfect throw. Unfortunately the #9 was infact Nico, who had had a run in with Guybrush's sword before the game and had NO HANDS! The ball hit him on the head knocking him to the ground. The grateful Count was quick to scoop up the loose ball and was able to cage up around some supporting humans. Again they slowly marched down the pitch, but this time without the worry of an enemy wizard. A few more cas were caused and plenty of elves KO'd on the way to a t16 score to take the game into Overtime.

Luckily for them the swashbucklers were chosen to receive the kick, and again with 2 early cas/KO had a comfortable numbers advantage. With the ball again in the count's hands the few remaining elves had no chance at regaining it and the humans rolled to a t24 score to win the game 2-1.
