Well things started as hoped... both my nigglers were available for the game. An alright handicap of "It wasn't me" also helped a little. Furthermore I received first, enabling me to have a go at somertowns los.
However, this is as far as it went. In the first half we simply could not break through the norse lines, and we did well to hang on to the ball and try another attack, but we just missed that little bit of luck needed to make it. Things fell apart really from turn 3-3 (despite the chaos side making a KO and stunning a couple of others) when the Ogre BH'd and a CW was surfed to KO'd. Despite progress forward, we lost another player to a surf, then another was BH'd, and yet another was surfed and KO'd. It was looking pretty grim, but the half finished 0-0.
With the norse receiving, i had 2 KO's stay out and I had 2 BH'd, leaving 8 against 11. By the end of the first turn I had 4 in the BH box leaving 6 to try and pull off a miracle result. We managed to SI-niggle a norse lineman, but the apoth was on hand to beckon him back from Valhalla.
I was a painfully tough half to defend in, but we did to our credit sack the ball carrier in turn 5-5, but it was too little too late, and the norse quickly dispatched the last of the chaos resistance with two more surfings in turn 6-7. Fortunately I didn't suffer any permanent injuries.
It looks likely I will just miss out on promotion even if I win my last game, but that might be a good thing as I need a season to strengthen this side up to stand a chance in the Premiership.
“It was always going to be a low scoring affair with two Luther Blissetts playing. And so it proved - 1-0 to the good guys.
As Wotfudboy's report notes, the game turned when the ogre Graham Taylor was badly hurt and before he had time to ask "Do I not like that?" his team-mate Alec Chamberlain became the first of many Khornets to be sent surfing.
So now I look forward to a championship decider with the best rated team I have ever coached on fumbbl. Would be very confident if I could enjoy the same luck I had in this game with the armor holding up much better than my opponents.
Thanks for the game Wotfudboy. ”
