“WIBBL Cup, Round 1.
The Miners faced off against the Savages, looking the better team on paper, little did they know the horror that would unfold.
The Miners were first to attack, breaking an opening in the Savages flank, but an angry runner from the savages threw a 1D block to kill a longbeard, thankfully the apo was on hand. The Miners, despite a few scares made it to the end zone taking the score to 1-0.
The Savages lined up looking to reply before the break, but a perfect defence seemed to have put pay to their plans. There was still a chance however, so the Miners moved to block the gaps which ended up being very costly, first a Lonbeard died on a GFI, then a Blitzer also failed his GFI for -MA. The half would end 1-0, but with the Miners carrying no reserves.
Into the second half and the Miners continued to lose players, their will seemingly broken, they did try to foul, but were spotted by the ref, with the 1,1 armour roll leaving the savages player laughing. Eventually the Savages strolled throug the lines to take the score to 1-1, and into overtime.
In overtime it was the Miners to receive, lining up as 10 players against an unscathed Savages side. However the Savages fans had a trick up their (short) sleeves throwing a rock to stun the Miners runner. The Savages followed this up by taking out another player, leaving the player count as 9 to 11.
The Miners took the next few turns failing to pick up the ball, allowing the Savages to pressure the remianing Miners players, before taking the score to 1-2 and with it, the win.
The Miners will now have to rebuild during the upcoming season, but at least with some skilled longbeards on the roster it should not be long before they return to former glories.
Thanks for the game Purp and best of luck for the rest of the cup.”
