#1 Rudi Bommeler – Smashed Ankle (-MA)
#6 Gert HoffnungstrÀger – Dead (RIP)
#16 Diddi Schmeddaknoche – Gouged Eye (MNG)
Wow, what a mud fight we have experienced this week end.
And a typical defeat for the 69ers although on paper this match up seemed quite promising.
So, what happened? Was it bad performence of the Human players? Bad coaching decisions?
Great playing by the Vampires? Who knows, probably a combination of all of them.
So, what happened?

After heavy rains prior to the game the pitch looked more like mud pool than a football field; so best environment for a bloody BB match.
Both teams appeared with their best line ups; on paper it seemed very challenging to the Vamp team to cope with the Blitzer alliance that would bind the action together. Besides, the 69ers defense would also be a tough crew to beat; with all the experienced tacklers and ball strippers.
And in fact, they did not disappoint during the first half.

With "Vamuz last Vurds" receiving they were about to prove what they are paid for.
With the rain, the mud and the ball strippers paying attention to the action on the field, the Vamps had a tough time to walk the ball down the field. We have seen some well performed blitzes on the ball carriers and the defense seemed to control the match.
By the end of the half the 69ers defending success was ensured by the Vampires becoming frustrated and thirsty though. So, when they had the last chance to score, they disappointed their coach Cloggy and preferred some fresh blood.

By that time before starting into the second half, with the 69ers in the offense and being able to field two players more, the momentum seemed to be on our side.
But this was about to change dramatically......

A short kick, some bad though unlucky blocks at the LoS, and the surprised 69ers were under pressure.
Controlling the ball became difficult, so they decided quite early to go for the score.
This decision might have been the turnover during this game. The pass failed and afterwards the entire team's structure broke apart. The Humans had atough time; they were lying around a lot and had tu suffer some serious casualties. Some spectators also claim to have witnessed some unsportsmanlike behaviour by the "Vamuz last Vurds" players; kicking those who were lying on ground anyway. It is difficult to tell the truth, but definately some breaking bones could be heard. Also, a key factor may have been the casualty of the 69ers Star "Rudi Bommeler". He was about to prepare the follow-up situation for the pass, when one of the Thralls stepped on him; "accidentially" as he stated after the match.
By accident or not, the Blitzer's hip broke once again and the team's doctor had a tough time to save his life at all. Still, he was not able to play further in this match and the rest of the team, being outnumbered more and more, did not manage to prevent the Vamps from scoring.

So, summarizing the evening:
A disappointing performence of the team and some serious casualties; all in all a typical result for the 69ers. At least they are experienced in recovering and to cope with such situations, so that we can be sure to see them some time again on the pitch, striving for some glory.
