#6 Brent Swann – Smashed Hand (MNG)
#9 Lysander Myrmus – Broken Jaw (MNG)
A close game that could have gone either way!

Things started off with the vampires kicking the ball downfield where it was fielded by Human Thrower Randell Thorne. The humans began to move the ball down the south side of the field, but quickly ran into a wall of vampires and thralls near midfield. A vampire broke through and knocked the ball loose, but the Swords were able to recover. Changing tactics, they hurled a pass to a Blitzer on the north side of the field, aiming to run a reverse through the light defense there. A few turns later, the ball was in the hands of Human catcher Elvin Florent, who dashed towards the end zone... and tripped and fell while making a go-for-it to score the touchdown. The half ends 0-0.

The second half featured the Cliches receiving the ball, and this time, it was they who ran into a crowd midfield. The ball was stripped by the Swords, and bounced around for a few turns, with neither side able to remain in control. However, casualties started to pile up for the Swords, and the Cliches were able to use their numerical advantage to get a thrall downfield. A turn 7 pass from a Vampire set them up for a last-turn touchdown to end the game 1-0.

#13 Xenophobic Tavernkeeper – Pinched Nerve (MNG)
An epic scrum of shared failure! First half, the Swords of Winter receive the kick, and start up toward the sideline. The Clichés break through the line though and knock the ball loose, and start off to the end zone. The SoW manage to get to the ball-carrying vampire before it's too late and take it back. The rest of the half proceeds mainly along those lines until a SoW catcher fails a GFI to finally score in T8. The half ends 0-0.

We receive in the second half an a thrall catches the kick. We maneuver around a bit, but in the end, the SoW manage a 1-die-block (1db) and knock our thrall down. Then we pick it up with a vampire, and he gets the same 1db treatment, also KOing him and sending the ball flying into Cliché territory, where a catcher runs off with it. We manage 3 dice on the catcher to take it back again. The SoW send a blitzer to take 2-dice-against (-2db) on my vampire - who was guarding the ball carrier a bit - and marks the ball. We try to Hypnotic Gaze our way out of trouble but fail, and have to dodge away to try a Long Pass, which we fumble. It takes us 2 more turns of scrapping over the ball, but we eventually manage it, and complete a Short Pass from Duke Negativelevels to Lonely Scholar Who Wants to Be Believed, who not only took the ball in for the winning score, but was also named MVP. (he learned Block post-game).

Oh, we also got the better end of the bashing in this one, and surprisingly so. 4 cas put us in the league lead after Round 1. Not that Cas is a stat that gets you anything, but it's still nice to outbash the orc teams.

GG pworthen. If was a war of attrition, with the one who failed the least destined to take the game in the end. For a while there though, I thought the scoreless tie was in the cards.
