Matchday in the Cold North... A Wonder it's not a friggin blizzard here :) The stands are just crammed with spectators (both teams rolled 12). One more norseman, and the whole place would surely burst :) As usual, though, there are more spectators cheering for the opponent. And, as usual, the opponents starts With reciving. In our whole career, we have NEVER had more spectators thahn the opponent, and the only time we were allowed to start receiving was when the Vampires won the coin toss but chose to start kicking... sigh...

The opponent has a fearsome record so far, having won against both the Goldlords AND the Pirates. That's really amazing. It also allows us some inducements, and we debate whether to hire Hemlock (a stabbing blodger is Nice to have), or to go with a chainsaw and a bribe to hopefully allow use of the chainsaw in two drives. We decide to go for the latter...

Claws, Idler and Bomer goes up front in the LOS as usual, and the enormous Cheer as the Norsemen enter the field is truly encouraging to the opponents... They start by pushing all our frontliners down into the dirt, but no harm comes to them, even though Ragnar tries his patented Piling-On and El Cid goes for the traditional good ole' boot in the face to Claws. However, With Ragnar momentarily down, Protector and Fraternizer spots a possibility to get around the Icedragons' left flank and go straight for their star runner Steini, who has picked up the ball. Is it a cunning trap...? Or simply a big mistake?

We don't care, but decide to boldly go for it. Protector provides support and Fraternizer hits Steini square on. And BOOM, a surprised Steini goes crashing down with a broken leg and the Icedragon star must be carried off the field after only a minute or two! The ball is loose as well, and the Scavengers have done their best to prevent the fighting Icedragons in the midfield brawl from getting back to the ball, and Team captain Black Booster sends Frodi off the field to the knock-out Box. The remaining Icedragins rally well, and by pushing Scavenger players around, they manage to free up veteran player Oddgeir Graelingsfriend to pick up the ball, which he does with great panache. he even manages to hand it off to Skogull Skullborg, the less experienced of their berserkers. He runs up the middle, where Ragnar Kharnatsblut has created a hole in the scavenger defense. Will the Icedragons succeed despite the loss of their star runner?

The Scavengers realise they cannot get directly at Skogull, but they instad Box him in with great care. Bomber, Booster and Claws surround him on two sides, and the skinks are well placed to prevent a dodge, while Fraternizer, Idler and Lightning tries to hold off the other Icedragons. Desperate Icedragons tries to push Scavengers around to free Skogull up, but the final blitz by Skogull runs straight into Black Booster. Booster is knocked off the field, but Skogull is still stopped in his tracks, and this time the Scavengers show no mercy. Protector pushes Hagar against Skogull, and the resulting clash sends Hagar off the field KO'd, while Skogull stumbles into the clutches of captain Booster, who resolutely flattens him. The ball pops out of his hands, and sails netaly into the waiting paws of Jungle Warrior, who takes off at once, With rookie skinks Bayou Breaker and Water Winner running interference. With four sauruses and Three skinks on the right side of the remaining Icedragons, there should have been little hope for them, but enterprising as the Icedragons are, they manage to push Idler aside, to open a tiny hole between Idler and fraternizer. Not a big one, but daredevil Oddgeir manages to squeeze through and blitz Warrior, who is beaten Down and looses the ball. Fraternizer is quickly on the scene, however, and stuns Oddgeir, but the Icedragons gett one more chance as Warrior, who has got back on his feet, fails to pick up the ball. Kalervo needs to do his utmost, and grabs the ball as air wheezes through his lungs and tosses it away. It bounces to end up close to Skadi, but Fraternier just brushes him to the side and takes up position to guard the ball until Warrior arrives and grabs it. This time, he goes left but is still within striking range by several Icedragons, so it is necessary to get some interference. However, With Water Winner marking Kalervo and Lightning knocking El Cid off the field, they can't Reach Warrior. The best they can do is to have Kalervo blitz Winner aside and try to cover Warrior. Their best is not nearly good enough though, as Lightning blitzes Kalervo away and Warrior can linger for a while until it's safe to score. Ragnar manges to knock himself out of the game in an attack against Lightning before Warrior scores With only some few minutes left on the clock in the first half.

With both Bomber and Breaker still unconscious, the scavengers are forced to field Helmut and chooses to surround him with the skinks. The rest sets up in a forward position, hoping for a blitz. The Icedragons are worse off, with three players still unconscious and star runner Steini on the casualty list, and can only field nine players. They set up away from our LOS and hope for a riot wich will give them time enough to score.

No riot though, and the Scavengers can instead make a short kick and let Helmut blitz poor Kalervo away to open the whole right side of the Icedragons defence! Claws hold off most of the Icedragons, while Lightning marks down Storolf and Idler, Fraternizer and Swimmer standing where the ball should arrive, and with Warrior, Wiggler and Winner running interference. And there comes the ball, sailing Down into the waiting hands of Swimmer! And there is still time to score! Icedragons are shocked to their cores for the second time this day, but tries as best they can to prevent the pending catastrophe. Skadi blitzes Swimmer, but he just wiggles away, and Idler can Block away Skadi and Fraternizer blitzes Storolf, and the path is clear for Swimmer to the endzone with only Seconds left of the half. 2-0 to the Scavengers, and we will start with the ball in the second half.

Unfortunately, a way too righteous referee bans Helmut and refrains from taking Our bribe (this must have been expensive for the Icedragons...), so Helmut is out. All other players on both teams (except Steini) are available, so we will have no numerical superiority in the second half. The game plan for the second half is easy, though. Protect the ball and hammer away at the norsemen until they break :)

We start with pushing their LOS back, and Fraternizer secures the left flank by knocking rookie Ulfwerener Grimtooth out of the game. Warrior secures the ball and is screened by three skinks. Gammel pushes Lightning away, though, allowing Skogull to push Winner away and move close to the ball carrier. In the meantime, Ragnar stuns Fraternizer to stop advances on the left flank. Its tempting to foul him, but with no bribes and an honest ref, we choose to play fair. Warrior goes left anyway, and he has barelyt moved before we realise that this is an error. Bloodthirsty Icedragons goes to work on our screen and ties down Wiggler and Claws, which allows Skadi to hit Warrior, who goes down, loosing the ball...

The ball is loose, and a big brawl develops around it, as everyone, Scavenger and Icedragon alike, scrambles for the ball. Slowly, but surely, the Scavengers regain the initiative, and Warrior and Bomber joins up to send El Cid off the field and the ball ends up in the paws of Fraternizer! Fraternizer runs for it, and struggling Icedragons can't even get on their fett before the Third TD of the day for the Scavengers is a fact!

This time the crowd goes wild, throwing flasks (with and without beer in them...), rocks and chairs onto the field. The Icedragons can only field then players, and then poor Skadi gets hit by a rock, and must be carried off just as the kick lands into the capable hands of Skogull. However, with only a fourth of th half left, and with 9 against 11 players, the Icedragons choose to pull back and do some passing exercises for the rest of the match. The Scavengers tries to go for them, but there isn't enough time, and the game peters out.

Thus, the game ends 3-0, and Scavengers are very happy. We retain our spot on the top of the league, and will play the Shark-toads next in a match where the winner will surely be in the play-offs.
