#14 Munchkin Mickey – Smashed Knee (NI)

Kicking off, the 'Berries tried their best to hold off the surge of Elf players down their left flank. Super Slide, along with a couple of other Elves formed a small cage on the wing, looking for an early score. Luckily for the Dingleberries, the combined force of Dongo, Bungo and Merry managed to halt the Elf catcher as he approached the endzone. The elves spent the next turn surrounding the halflings trying to stop their escape with the ball; but with some good moves (and lucky dice), Bungo managed to dodge out of the cage with the ball and hand it off to Rusty, who ran off towards the halfway line.

After some pushing and shoving, Bongo emerged from the scrum with the ball, sprinting towards the Elf endzone as fast as his stumpy legs could take him. After being caught by Backstabber and the ball bouncing clear, it was eventually up to Samwise Chickenslayer to carry the ball in to score in turn six.

The celebrations were once again a bit premature, as the two remaining turns gave the Elves ample time to equal the score. Super Slide crossing the line to score, after the only defense (a brave attempt by Bungo to stop two elves on his own) was shoved aside by the knuckleduster-carrying Blitzer, Jackpot.

The second half saw the Dingleberries slowly force a cage up the field, with the Treeman Jeff holding off many of the attackers on his own. After five turns of blocking and tackling, Bungo ran off on his own to score the second touchdown for the Halflings. With both dugouts full of injured and unconscious players, nine 'Berries lined up to stop seven Elves from evening the score once more. Another charge down the flank by the Bowlers was only held up thanks to some defensive throwing by the Treemen, launching players back to put pressure on the Elf runners.

The Halflings finally did manage to retreive the ball after the Elf ballcarrier failed to dodge away from them, and eventually saw it flying through the air in the hands of Willow. Landing within range of the endzone, Willow was prepared to score a third for the Dingleberries. Only the swift figure of Elf Thrower Bubblan managed to get close to Willow, KO-ing him, but knocking himself prone in the process. Another thrown Halfling went for the ball, but failed to land properly, leaving Bubblan to retrieve the ball and go for a long pass to the Blitzers waiting upfield. With the ball passing over the heads of the Halfling lines, it was up to the Blitzer Jackpot to catch the ball; something he failed to do, leaving the score at a satisfying win for the 'Berries.

***

Another fun Halfling match and another rather violent affair. A great opponent who was unfortunate in a number of dice rolls, especially late in the game. This was a close match that could've easily been very different. Thanks again Greppet.
