“The fifth round of OBBA League One. What a memorable match! The Elverton BBC decided to hire a merc lineman and Prince Moranion (aka Prince Moron) for this match, which brought both teams to 13 players. PSV kicked off and Elverton started their offense with a break out over their left wing. But a failed dodge led to an unexpected fast turnover giving PSV star player Ruud van Nistelrooij a clear shot at the Elverton ball carrier Tim Howard. Tim was knocked out and the crowd threw the ball in reach of PSV's Luc Nilis, who could seize the ball and pass it into safety, were it not for the hero Merc Lineman 1 who manage to intercept the pass! A very dirty scrum developed around the ball, in which either party tried to get the overhand by chain pushing and knocking out players. One could swear to be watching a dwarf vs dwarf game instead of elf vs elf! PSV's WIlly vd Karkhof managed to get out of the scrum with the ball but Ruud Gullit failed to catch the pass. The Elverton quickly set the counterstrike, and via AG5 players James McCarthy and Leighton Baines managed to score the 1-0.

The return drive of PSV started with some turns of bashing but without causing much bloodshed. Finally, in turn 7 a defense over the right wing was started. Prince Moranion tried to stop the threat but lived up to his nickname and caused a double skull and wasted team reroll. Elverton desparately tried to prevent the touchdown by casting a fireball on the attackers, but star player Van Nistelrooij escaped the effect and could score the 1-1 in turn 8.

In the second half, PSV led a fast attack over the left wing and scored the 2-1 in turn 3.

The final drive of the match proved to be extremely tense, with many ball carriers going down almost every turn. Leighton Baines ran for the end zone but was not out of reach for Van Nistelrooij. He got floored and PSV screened the ball deep into their own back field. Prince Moranion ran around the screen and popped the ball free, but there were too many PSV players around to be able to pick it up. PSV's Wilfed Bouma picked up the ball and camped in his own endzone. Leighton Baines was gangfouled to prevent him from attacking Bouma. Elverton Blitzer Phil Jagielka managed to POW Bouma but Van Nistelrooij caught the bouncing ball. In a desparate attempt to chase the 3-1, Van Nistelrooij leaped out of the endzone battle and raced forward, supported by Guardado and Van der Kerkhof, while Zenden was running forwards to receive the pass. In the final turn for PSV, Van Nistelrooij handed off the ball to Guardado, who made s hort pass forward to Zenden. But what's that? The ball slipped from his hands!! The 'pass' reroll didn't help and the fumbled ball lay next to the treeman at the LoS midfield. Elverton did what PSV could not do: Pick up the ball, throw a long pass to their catcher and score the 2-2.

Overall, a very enternaining and exciting match. PSV was unlucky with 2 missed short passes allowing Elverton to counterstrike into the 1-0 lead and 2-2 equalizer. It is a structural deficit: In the previous match, another PSV short pass was fumbled leading to a 2-1 loss against Glassjaw STrangers. So the PSV will be on training camp for a week to practice passing before starting their next match :-)”
