#19 Ian Whiteeagle – Dead (RIP)
#21 Leroy Silentorc – Fractured Skull (-AV)
A good fun game which contained a little bit of everything - skill, luck, excitement...and just a tiny bit of disappointment. But the end result was a fair one and I think both of us had a good time getting there.

The wood elves received the kick-off and scored one of their trademark long bomb scores on turn 2. Sadly, in the process, one of the journeymen messed up a block and injured himself. As if playing with 5 journeymen wasn't enough of a handicap, now I would be a man down for the rest of the game.

Anyway, scotch wasted no time in pulling one back, although he also suffered a casualty along the way - the first of two from Spiderplant, who only managed six blocks in the entire game, but made two of them count big time.

A lucky quick snap then allowed me to get the ball way downfield and if not completely safe, then at least out of range of all the many elven tacklers. Not that it mattered though, because one of the non-tacklers got the job done on the next turn anyway, stunning the catcher and stealing the ball. I wasn't able to do anything about it, but with time running out, scotch needed to get the new ball carrier within scoring range for the final turn and in doing so he failed his go for it. Not only that, but he left the ball within easy reach of my thrower, and by then the stunned catcher was ready to stand up and take the catch for a very cheeky second score.

No one-turn attempt from the elven union, but they got the ball back at the top of the second half anyway, and in similar style to their first TD, they pulled level once more.

Another quick score from the wood elves followed, and in a repeat of my first score, Spiderplant picked up a cas as well.

So it all came down to the final drive. Would I be able to stop the elves? No, is the short answer. I did a good job of smothering the passer with three players, but at AG5 he was easily able to wriggle his way out and get rid of the ball. scotch then decided to stall out the final few turns and he managed this perfectly well until my turn 7, when I was able to get a 2-dice blitz on the ball carrier, who was looking all exposed just outside my end zone. Sadly for me though, the blitz resulted in nothing more than a pushback - even with a reroll - and I had to rely on the strip ball to make the final turn super exciting. scotch wasn't able to clear any space for himself, and his final play was to dodge in and pick up the ball in the war dancer's TZ for the score.

There was a chance for a one-turn winner from the wood elves. It would have been a big ask with so few players, but it was at least mathematically possible...until the catcher failed the catch - perhaps feeling that was a safer option than running the gauntlet of all those tacklers waiting for him downfield.

So a draw it was, and that was probably a fair result. scotch's unlucky failed go for it which allowed my second score was countered by a double failed pick-up from my thrower in the second half. Had he got his hands on the ball, I was in a perfect scoring position and could have made it 3-1. But these things happen.

And it was a good result in other ways. Even with that failed pick-up, and the failed catch at the end, Briskbreeze still managed 6 for 64. Spiderplant notched up two more casualties and I made enough gold to allow me to buy a second wardancer, so the rebuild has officially begun and I'll only be burdened with four journeymen next time out.

Why both coaches lost fans after such an exciting game is beyond me though. Come on guys, it doesn't get much better than this.
