#18 Xavier Palesnake – Fractured Skull (-AV)
An almost bloodless game (which I quite like the sound of right now, thank you) which was reasonably fast and furious in the first half, a lot slower in the second.

When the wood elves had the ball, they scored as quickly as possible. When the high elves had the ball they controlled the clock (stalled) while trying to whittle down the wood elf numbers. In turn, I used my two mighty blowers to attempt the same in reverse, while I ran the AG5 wardancer downfield to make the high elf thrower, if not actually scared, then at least a little nervous perhaps.

But there's not a lot you can do against the high elf passing game except hope for bad dice (which never happened). And with four tooled-up and fast receivers, they were always in a position to score whenever they wanted really.

So in the first half that's what happened. I scored quickly, gamu scored quickly, I scored quickly again. Then gamu took it a little slower, leaving me with just the final turn of the half to try and score. But he also set up in a perfect one-turn defence, so I thought I'd set up to get in a final turn of blocking, rather than attempt a huge bunch of dice without any 1s.

In the second half, gamu went for the long stall. He got the ball-carrier and an assist all the way down to just outside the endzone, and then both teams set about bashing the snot out of each other for six turns. All to no real effect. And eventually, with the wood elves finally running back to threaten, the high elves ran it in to take the lead.

So I had two turns to try and equalise. It was a little bit messy on the line, and I was only really able to get one of the wardancers far downfield, but both catchers, and a lineman were all potentially in range. gamu negated all the targets except one of the catchers, but said catcher then went and finished the game on a snake eyes on his first GFI.

So no last-minute heroics for Sensation, and a surprisingly poor showing in the passing stats, but there were no injuries and one of the rookie linemen skilled up, so it was all fine and dandy really.

Had either team been a bit more successful with their blocking, the scoreline might have been very different, but as both were somewhat toothless, both coaches came away with full teams. Which is always nice.

Fun game.
