A second round game in Fumbbl Cup qualifier high CR group 1.

The elves started the game poorly by knocking their heads against the Buffy Episode's solid 3-4-4 defense line (treeman rolled a pow/skull, skull). The orcs closed in, didn't manage to steal the ball but stumbled when trying to blitz the ball carrying ST 3 AG 5 one-turning abomination. The woodies then backed away and the orcs started in pursuit. However, a sudden change of direction resulted in the ball flying into the hands of a rookie wardancer near the orcs' end zone on turn 3. Unable to reach the wardancer, the orcs contented themselves with hitting the annoying one turner and almost getting him out of the pitch (BH apoed). This wasn't enough to stop the woodies from scoring, which they did promptly on the next turn.

After the next kick off, the orcs secured the ball and built a cage a few squares from the LOS. The elves' treeman redeemed his earlier mistake and sent a black orc to the BH box, bringing the numbers to even 10-10. The orcs moved the cage forward and closer to the sidelines, but soon found a leaping wardancer in their midst. This brave dancer wasn't quite nimble enough, however and had to spend the rest of the drive in the KO box.

Once again, the orcs moved the cage forward, and managed to remove the one turner from the pitch for good thanks to a solid hit by Touched (BH). Enraged by this, the remaining Wardancer followed his comrade and made a daring leap and blitz into the middle of the cage. After only a moment, the ball was far in the orcs' half, in the hands of a madly running catcher. He was barely brought down by the orc thrower The Grave but as a result the ball went into the crowd, who threw it right in the middle of two orcs and elves. With amazing agility another catcher picked up the ball and rushed to score the 2-0 TD just as the half was ending.

Except that the half wasn't quite over. The orcs prepared to give the ball to their mascot Dead Things, who hadn't even ever been on the pitch before this. The plan was to have Hush lob the gobbo downfield with the ball, a feat in which the team had never been succesful before. In fact, Dead Things' predecessor Pangs had been eaten by the troll, which didn't exactly raise the gobbo's spirits. However, as luck would have it the elf kicker crucially failed in his kick and after a touchback the ball was handed to Dead Things. Could he succeed in scoring a touchdown after all? Yes! Hush managed to make the pass, and with elflike agility the gobbo came down on his feet and ran to make the score 2-1 at half time.

The second half began with 11 orcs vs. 9 elves, but a failed blitz attempt resulted in a prone wardancer. Once More Feeling brought down his heavy boot and the crowd went wild as the elf was carried away from the pitch, dead. Soon after, Chosen decided to show everyone what he can do, and hit the remaining wardancer as hard as he could, hurting him badly. As if this wasn't enough, Once More With Feeling netted his second kill of the night by giving the elves' dirty player a taste of his own medicine. Unfortunately the referee had his eye on the orcs and ejected OMWF, leaving an opening for the elves. They used this well and managed to knock down Touched and steal the ball.

Luckily, they weren't quick enough to escape the orcs who ran down the ball carrier and completely surrounded the ball. Even the elves weren't agile to pick up the ball, which bounced to The Body, the orcs' ST 5 monstrocity. He snatched the ball and started running down field slowly but steadily. Once he got moving he would not give up the ball and made the game 2-2 after the second half.

The overtime started with only 4 elves and a tree facing 11 bloodthirsty orcs, who received the kick and marched steadily towards the end zone. The practically certain touchdown was only threatened when the black orc The Gift wanted the ball for himself so that he could score the second touchdown of his career. Evidently not as agile as The Body, he dropped the ball, which was stolen by a wood elf catcher. The catcher frantically dodged the five orcs surrounding him, but was finally brought down when dodging away from After Life. This time the ball was picked up by the reliable The Grave, who held on to the ball until the final moments of the first half. Just as the overtime was about to end he stepped over the line and scored the winning touchdown for the orcs!

Soaren very nearly managed to get a win and I was only saved by the lucky TTM touchdown. Thanks for the game Soaren!
