The Hopefuls
Congregation of Holy Touchdown
Guided by the spirited sermons of Father Fanky, the Congregation have slowly but surely risen through the ranks of the league through pure stubbornness and attrition resistance, and come into Summer on the wings of a very successful regional campaign. In a qualifier that best embodies the qualities of flashy stardom, the Sigmarites are instead defined by sheer, methodical bashing of the opponent. They are zagging while everybody’s zigging, but is that the right choice?
The year so far
4-0-0, 1st in the Empire regionals after a big scare by the Mootland Defenders in the season opener
What’s hot
The Congregation has been impervious to damage this season. Including a “friendly” against none others than Nextflux’s Way of the Dragon the Sisters suffered only one serious injury, which didn’t even bring any kind of long-term consequence for the player. The Congregation seems to thrive in long, drawn out attrition battles, and with an opposition that is so susceptible to well-aimed blocks, the ability to come on top in virtually any bashfest should give these nuns an edge that all other teams will have trouble matching.
What’s not
While solid, the Congregation is dramatically short on stand-out players. The team is very well trained and motivated, and has much of the skills needed to give the opponent a hard time, but that can’t hide the fact that most of the players are painfully average in their STAT. The roster is reliable and weathered, but isn’t particularly strong nor agile, and will struggle to match the pace of their competitors. The Congregation better hope that the match plays to their strengths, or they’re going to be left in the dust.
Player to watch
The team might have trouble changing gears, but that doesn’t mean that Father Fanky lacks aces up his sleeve. Sister Rosetta brings agility and speed to a roster that needs them like air, and her unique skillset helps her get the ball out of stalemates if the opposition is able to bog down the advancement of the cage. Many coaches will be surprised by how easily this Augur can slip through their defence, dodging and jumping above the line of defense.
Key stat
0 – the number of matches where the Congregation scored more than 2 touchdowns. That’s right – never. With so many high-flying offenses to face, the Congregation will have to rely on defence to come on top.
