About four thousand years before the Battle of Yavin, the Jedi apprentice Freedon Nadd was lured to the dark side of the Force, slaying his master and tracking down rumours about the ancient Sith Empire until he discovered the ruins of Naga Sadow’s brief kingdom on the fourth moon of Yavin. There he learned what he could of the ways of the Sith and decided to establish his own Sith empire. He found a suitable planet – Onderon, which was beset by strange monsters from the moon of Dxun, which had an unusual concentration of dark side energies as well as a curious orbital path that took it through Onderon’s atmosphere [Yes, this is probably astronomically impossible, resulting in the destruction of Onderon because of the tidal forces. I didn’t make it up, some genius comic strip writer did. What can I say?]. Nadd took control of the settlers of Onderon and helped them push back the monsters and establish a city, which he would rule for the rest of his natural life. He continued on in death as a dark side spirit, and advised his heirs, who ruled the city-state of Iziz as he had, with the dark side of the Force. He also corrupted the Force-savants Satal and Aleema Keto, who would in turn bring the Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma to the dark Side. Nadd’s spirit would travel to Yavin IV and turn the Jedi Exar Kun to evil as well. In short, it seemed that in death he would bring about the revival of the Sith Empire, the goal that had eluded him in life, but his spirit was destroyed by Exar Kun when the latter had become powerful enough to claim the title of Dark Lord of the Sith for himself.
