Mali international Momo Sissoko became Rafael Benitez's fifth summer signing ahead of the 2005/06 season when he arrived from Valencia.

Sissoko is well known to Benitez as he played many games for Rafa when the pair were at Valencia.

He will join fellow Mali international Djimi Traore at Anfield and the signing of Sissoko is a real coup for Benitez as the player turned down moves to Chelsea and Everton in favour of the European champions Liverpool.

Benitez rates him highly and believes potentially Sissoko could eventually become a better player than Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira.

Sissoko is a tough competitor who is very quick and powerful in the centre of midfield.

He suffered a potentially serious eye injury sustained in the Champions League clash in Benfica, but made a remarkable recovery to be back in action after just a month on the sidelines
