The generic concept of foul play is a fundamental part of the game of Blood Bowl. It represents the positive benefits of not playing by the rules, using excessive violence and assaulting fellow players, referees, opponents and fans.

The Foul Play Campaign was conceived largely as an indirect result of the 2486 Chaos Cup™ final in Har Ganeth, when the six touch-downs scored by Jordell Freshbreeze stimulated the admirable reaction of the Dark Elf coach, who had all Wood Elf players assassinated. Sadly, Jordell Freshbreeze managed to escape. Since then, the campaign has met with the unconditional support of all the NAF presidents since, who feel that blood should remain on the pitch, not outside it.

To give foul play more visibility, the NAF created a programme that turned the generic notion into a simple design and an easy to understand code of misconduct that could be recognised and feared by players and fans alike.
