I'm going to put some stuff on here about me, my time on FUMBBL, leagues I play in, teams I have, players in those teams, usefull links and it'll be interspersed with any good jokes and quotes I find. This is going to be for my benefit mainly but if you care to read it, then feel free, you're more than welcome.

Also, in case you were wondering, yes I am a Tottenham Hotspur fan and I am one of the sick few that will openly admit it. I've been supporting them for 20+ years now and will continue to do so as I'm waiting for them to win something worthwhile. Only joking, I'm not a glory hunter like a lot of modern Football fans and love the club, win or lose. A section of this page will be devoted to them and my love of Football in general. If you're not English and think I'm taking about about Soccer, then you're wrong. There's no such thing as Soccer as far as I'm concerned and the thing that Americans call Football is actually American Football, so there. You've been told now, so get on and accept it :P</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="6" align="center" valign="middle"><b>My Blood Bowling history:</b> I started playing Blood Bowl with a couple of friends over 15 years ago. We only played odd games casually and never played in leagues or got that good at the game.

When I joined FUMBBL the game had changed and so it was like a whole new game to me because of my break from the game and the new rules. I like the newer version of Blood Bowl a lot and have really enjoyed playing it at FUMBBL.

My credit goes to the guys that run the site and SkiJunkie who created the client. When I came across the site it seemed to good to be true to find that someone could have set up such a comprehensive system of allowing people to play Blood Bowl. While it's clear that there's a large element of the site that are way out of my class in terms of playing the game, I don't feel like there's no place for coaches like myself. I think it's a testament to how well the site is run; that while there are sometimes contentious issues in the forums/blogs/chat between coaches and in general, the site continues unabated and has lots of games available. I also think the fact that there are sometimes coaches voicing their problems openly is a good thing and only goes to show people care about the site/game and like to spend their time on FUMBBL playing Blood Bowl.

I'm not all that good at the game (as my profile's coach stats clearly show :P) but I enjoy playing anyway as I think the game is great and is designed to have fun. There's so much comedy in it that you've gotta love it, right?</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="3" align="center" valign="middle"><b>Ranked:</b> Once I'd got used to the online game I started to play a bit in [R]. Due to my lack of competence at the game I've found it quite hard in [R] but have also found it to be generally fair apart from the odd very questionable disco when i was beating good 170+ coaches and was at the end of a turn where i'd had a lot of success in securing the win. This happened twice to me and it is the dirtiest thing I've ever seen on FUMBBL and is my main reason for avoiding [R] now. First time I asked admin if I had to finish as I felt he was cheating and he said yes so i conceded to the guy if it meant that much to him. Second time was in a Smack style tourney first round and having seen it before I couldn't be arsed to kick up about it because it does you no good as the guy just says "I got disconnected honest, what can I do about it?" when their comments about your play up to it suggest they don't like you playing well when they thought they'd hammer you. Coaches that build a CR like this are Fuc*ing wank*rs IMHO. I'm sure they don't get all their wins like this, just the ones where they thought you'd be easy and found you're not.

The standard of the coaches in there is good IMHO and I think I'm gonna have to get a lot better to be able to play in there a lot. The main problem I've found is that while there are lots of games to be had most of the coaches aren't going to give you a break because they're playing in there to gain CR and improve their teams so that they don't get ruined to often, which is understandable. As a result of this I've got a couple of teams going but it hasn't lasted long as I'm not good enough. The only way I've managed to develop any of my teams in [R] is to be careful with my players lives which means it's hard to win. If I'm less careful then they die a lot and I still lose and my team won't develop either.</td> <td colspan="3" align="center" valign="middle"><b>League:</b> I was encouraged to join a league by a coach (Chewie) that I played in
/[U] when I was new to FUMBBL. The reason he recommended it to me was that he felt it was where there was most fun to be had and also was a good way to get into the FUMBBL community spirit. I have to say he was right about that and I have fully enjoyed playing in the couple of leagues I've joined. While there are still the same good coaches in [L] as in [R], generally they seem to be there for a more fun element rather than just the competitive nature of [R]. The playing fields seem to be quite level as the leagues are run for all and not just the best coaches thus encouraging lesser coaches rather than just pounding them and perhaps making them feel out of place in there as they may feel in [R].

I personally would also recommend coaches that are fairly new to join a league or two as it gives you some games that aren't just meaningless one off matches. I like to give teams a bit of background and to do the odd match report or two. This is also more common in league and is one of the best parts about it IMHO.

Finally, I'd have little to offer to some of the forums about tactics/rules and the like as I'm not experienced or qualified enough to comment on most things. However in the leagues, because you're part of it your input will be welcomed and also you get to brag a bit on a small scale even if you don't often have much to brag about. If I tried it in relation to [R] I'd soon get exposed as the muppet I am :P</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="3" align="center" valign="middle"><b>Unranked:</b>Once I'd played a couple of my first [A] teams to the limit I moved them into [U] so I could keep playing them. It seemed to be more populated when I joined than it is now which I think is a shame. I had a break of a couple of months due to moving house and getting a new Broadband connection and retired my [U] teams. Now I've moved a couple of teams that weren't going to survive in [R] to [U] in the hope of keeping them going and this is where I'll most likely try to play as much as possible when I'm not playing in [L].
</td> <td colspan="3" align="center" valign="middle"><b>Academy:</b> I stopped playing in [A] once I felt comfortable with the game as I felt I had little to offer new coaches in terms of help with the game. Now that [U] is so sparse for games I'm going to keep a couple of [A] teams available as I think I probably offer a fairer challenge to a new coach than some of the seemingly professional [A] coaches who play in there a lot even thoug they have 50% win ratings or better. If you're new and you see me in there I can promise I won't be fouling you up looking for easy wins and I won't try to pick you for mismatched games either. While I can't offer you much reliable help in terms of tactics I am prepared to be patient while you consider your moves and can also help you with site use and the games rules.
