Team Profile
Mayemi Nereid-fins

Lounging in the shining silver sands of the beaches along the Westrian Sea, the high elven kingdom of Mayemi has long been known for the beauty of its inhabitants as well as the opulence and decadence of its night life. Perhaps this was captured best in the ancient tales of the elven warriors Crocyth and Tybbs, who roamed about Mayemi in the most expensive and brightly colored chariots solving capers, rescuing maidens, and becoming renowned not just for their bravery and heroism, but also for their bold fashion choices. (Crocyth’s habit of flipping up the ruffled collars on his tunics and wearing his elven boots without socks, in fact, started trends that reached widely across the realm, even into human kingdoms.)

Like the glittering and colorful city they call home, the Mayemi Nereid-fins play with beauty and style. The team is best known for its passing game, which was brought to its zenith in the 2480s thanks in large part to the arm of Danryth Marynthrow, whose quick release was said to be faster than the flutter of a fairy’s wing. Blessed with an ability to make passes so swiftly, they seemed to hit his speedy receivers before he even threw the ball, Marynthrow led the Nereid-fins to early glory.

Danryth Marynthrow's uncanny quick release transcended space and time, allowing his passes to land in his receivers' hands before he even threw the ball

Since Marynthrow’s retirement, however, the team has struggled to replace him. At one point, in fact, they even used a thrower-less team, recruiting one of the sea nymphs for which they are named to play for the team and run what became known as the “Wild-fin” offense. Rensy Brine, who could barely stand let alone throw a pass would claim the kick-off and then occasionally slap the ball up field with her tailfin, while the team employed an otherwise run-heavy offense. The ploy was effective at first, if only because it thoroughly confused opponents, but the novelty soon wore off. Which is to say teams stopped covering downfield receiver and simply stomped Brine into the pitch.

But now, with new thrower Tya Tyngafarthrowa on the roster, Nereid-fin fans are hopeful that Mayemi can see a resurgence in its passing attack. While some question whether Tyngafarthrowa, with his slight frame, can hold up to the punishment regularly dealt out on the Blood Bowl pitch, the team insists that past injuries that have left him unconscious for days were not head injuries but rather back injuries. Accordingly, Tyngafarthrowa is not, they insist, putting his life at risk every time he steps on the field.

If Tya Tyngafarthrowa can survive the repeated head--that is, back--injuries, Mayemi fans are hopeful he will re-establish the passing attack not seen since Marynthrow's retirement

With speedsters Taryk Hyll and Faylyn Woodyl on the outside, Nereid-fin fans are eager to see if Mayemi can simply run away from all contact and put up enough TDs to overcome the team’s complete lack of physicality. Meanwhile, ballhawk blitzers Jalyn Killyps and Rahor Mossheart will try to cause just enough turnovers to keep the defense from being completely run over.

Will the Nereid-fins be able to return to glory? Can Tyngafarthrowa’s release be quick enough to transcend space and time and return the team to its past glory? Or will a Tyngafarthrowa decapitation eventually force the Nereid-find to return to playing a Nereid as their thrower? There’s only one way to find out. Come out for the Nereid-fins next Blood Bowl match — and fins up!

Team Highlights

2472
Led by the two-headed running attack of Lyric Zynka and Myrcurys Merrys, the Mayemi Nereid-fins celebrated one of Blood Bowl's only undefeated seasons. Though most fans of the game have long-forgotten, Merrys makes sure to keep reminding them, popping a bottle of high elven wine every season when the last undefeated team loses a game.

2484
Danryth Marynthrow takes the Nereid-fins to the Blood Bowl, but suffers a tough defeat in what many thought would be his first of many appearances. Strangely, Marynthrow never takes the team back to the Blood Bowl, but makes a fortune selling fine leather gloves, and appearing in an odd comedy play featuring a man who speaks through his hind quarters while rescuing a stolen Nereid.

2497
The Nereid-fins unveil the "Wild-fin" offense for the first time against their arch rivals,. the Bastonne Hatriots. Despite the fact, that the nereid Rensy Brine can't flipper the ball forward more than few yards, using her as a thrower completely stuns the Hatriots in a 4-0 shutout that leaves Bastonne Coach Willhelm Belecheat tearing at his hooded robe on the sidelines.

2499
The Nereid-fins highly touted new thrower Tyngafarthrowa suffers what appears to be a devastating skull fracture during a game. Nonetheless, Mayemi sends him out in the second half to finish the game, claiming that it was not a skull fracture but a back injury. When the league chastises them and points out that a chunk of Tyngafarthrowa's skull was found on the field, the Nereid-fins officially reply, "Yeah, that's what he tripped over when he fell and hurt his back."
