| East Mines Athletic Team Colours: Light Blue and Black Logo: Home Stadium: King Thodrok Memorial Cavern, Eastern Mines (five leagues down Rumbling Tunnel, third exit) A team that can claim to be almost as old as the Dwarf Giants. East Mines Athletic can trace their lineage through two seperate ancient clubs - the '4th East Mines Thunderer Volunteers' and 'The Blue Pick Tavern Gentledwarfs Recreation and Social Athletic Club'. While East Mines can claim a timeline to rival that of the Giants, they are most certainly not as succesful with little to no silverware in the major Dwarven cups or leagues and remain in the amateur leagues, which can pose a problem come wartime or when a new seam is discovered. 2370: During the great Goblin war of 2360-70 many Dwarves are called up to battle for King Thodrok and defend the eastern mines from the invasion, this led to a number of seasons of Blood Bowl in the World Edge Mountains being cancelled and upon the end of the wars many clubs found themselves unable to field full teams anymore, this led to many squads merging and two of these, the '4th East Mines Thunderer Volunteers' and 'The Blue Pick Tavern Gentledwarfs Recreation and Social Athletic Club' merged to become East Mines Athletic. 2429: Reaching the finals of the Worlds Edge Challenge Cup for the first time, Athletic faced off against Durims Destroyers and were soundly beaten 3-0. Despite this they were able to use the funds from the cup run to turn professonial for a number of years and entered the 'golden age' for the club. 2435: Despite being four Dwarves short on the opening kickoff of the Moot Invitational Classic due to a new gold seam being discovered in the Rumbling tunnel, the Athletic players manage to progress through the knockout cup and with their players returning in time for the final and inspirational play by star runner Rumbo Fleetfoot they are able to secure a hard fought victory over the Sandstone Dervishes. 2462: A run of bad form sees crowds diminish and the team land firmly back in the lower depths of the junior leagues. It's in the lower leagues that the team now resides for over sixty years, never bad enough to fold entirely, but never good enough to see progress into the senior leagues. |
