Gargoyles are grotesque stone creatures with a blend of animal and human features, often with wings. Their fierce appearance serves to ward off evil and they are often entreated to perch on important buildings and temples.

A legendary creature with the head, beak and wings of an eagle, the body of a lion and the tail of a serpent or scorpion. Gryphons are fearsome fighters, swooping in on their foes and savaging them with beak and claw.

Faeries are often seen as capricious folk playing malicious tricks on poor unsuspecting humans who accidentally wander into their domain. Of the many different types of faeries, their Queen is often the most bitter and vengeful.

A slender white horse with a spiraling horn on its equine forehead. It is usually considered wild and untamable. It is often said that only virginal young women may successfully ride them, all others who attempt being gored and trampled mercilessly.

The manticore is a legendary creature possessing many mixed features of various beasts. It has the head of a man, with horns, gray eyes, three rows of iron shark-like teeth. It's body is that of a lion, though it is as large as a horse and thickly muscled, often with wings. The manticore's tail is that of a scorpion, able to stab its prey with terrible agony-causing venom. It is a ferocious foe of humans, delighting in dining on their flesh.

The Leviathan is some sort of chaos animal, coiled in the shape of a crocodile or a serpent, with seven terrible heads.

A Barghest is a monstrous dog with huge teeth and claws. People believe that anyone who sees the dog clearly will die soon after the encounter.

The Sphinx is a female demon of death and destruction and bad luck. Sphinx is a powerful creature with the breast, paws and claws of a lion, a snake tail and bird wings. When not playing Blood Bowl, Sphinx perches on a rock nearby the villages of her enemies and poses riddles to all who pass. Those who cannot solve the riddle are strangled and consumed raw.

The Sasquatch has long arms, an ape-like face with a flat nose, and thick hairy fur, all attached to a hulking frame of at least 2.1 meters. Sasquatch live in the caves and hidden valleys of temperate regions, and are known to be quite shy. One can only imagine the carnage if a Sasquatch is forced to play Blood Bowl.

The Jabberwock is a fanciful, nebulous creature often portrayed as a draconic form. But really, it is a beast of pure nonsense.

The phoenix is a mythical bird and associated with the god of the sun. Each morning at dawn, she bathes in the water and sings such a beautiful song that the sun-god stops his chariot to listen. There exists only one phoenix at a time. When the phoenix feels death approaching, it builds a nest of aromatic wood and sets it on fire, and is consumed by the flames. When phoenix is burned and consumed, a new phoenix springs forth from the pyre. Phoenix then embalms the ashes of its predecessor in an egg of myrrh and deposits the egg on the altar of the sun god.

As death is always approaching on the Blood Bowl pitch, the pyre is kept in the dugout with the apothecary nearby to set it alight if needed.

Cerberus is the three-headed watchdog with the tail of a serpent who stands guard over the entrance to Hades. Cerberus permits new spirits to enter the realm of dead, but allows none of them to leave.

Thunderbird is a species bird native to temperate mountainous regions. They are intelligent, powerful, and wrathful. All agree that one should go out of one's way to keep from getting thunderbirds angry.

Thunderbirds can shapeshift into elven form by tilting back their beaks like a mask, and by removing their feathers as if it were a feather-covered blanket. This allows Thunderbirds to easily take part in Blood Bowl without letting on to their opponents their true power until it is too late.
