-- If the link does not work you have to set your MIME types correctly. I don't know how to do this for each and any browser, but here is the guide for Opera maybe other people can put up guides for other browser types Smile.

How to set up replay for Opera (Windows)

1. First of all "Search" for "javaws.exe" - or a shortcut to it (usually called Java Web Start). Remember the path to it.
2. In Opera: Press Alt+P to go to the preferences, select File Types
3. Look for "application/x-java-jnlp-file" and select it, then hit edit
4. Select the "open with other application"-option, hit choose and browse to your "javaws.exe" select it and click on open.
5. Close all the preferences by clicking on "OK". Done Smile.

How to set up replay for (any browser) OS X:
1. It just plain works when you click on the link so long as you have the latest JRE (Download it here from Apple).
2. It will save a file called 'JBBReplay.php' on your desktop with a Java icon and you can double click on that to start the match.
3. Uh... er.. Enjoy, I guess. As Jeff Goldbloom said (in the original iMac commercial), there is no step 3. {edit: unless your 'JBBReplay.php' doesn't have a java icon, then follow step 3 below}

For the record, you should be using the latest JRE anyway. It's a good thing. Smile

To set up a replay with Safari 1.0
1. Make sure you have the right JRE, as mentioned above. You really should be... oops. Already said that...
2. Click on the replay link. It will download a file called 'JBBReplay.php', most likely to your desktop.
3. Drag 'JBBReplay.php' onto Java Web Start in Applications/Utilities/Java/ or right-click (control + click for you 1 button knuckledraggers) on 'JBBReplay.php' and select "Open with..." and choose Java Web Start in Applications/Utilities/Java/.

Just worked for me, at least.

*** Important Note ***
JBB Replayer requires JRE 1.4.1 or higher. The OS X version of JRE 1.4.1 requires OS 10.2 or higher. Erego, those on 10.1.5 (like me at work) cannot use the replayer. I guess Steve Jobs gets another jet if he sells enough copies of Jaguar.

Change any browser to any browser except Safari and you've got it right.

I'm reporting it as a bug, to the safari people.

Tested: Windows 2000 with Internet Explorer

*edit* Also tested with WinXP and Internet Explorer

1) Search for javaws.exe
2) make note of directory javaws.exe is in
3) if you can't find javaws.exe download new version of java
4) Open up replay
5) Windows will ask you to tell it what program to use
6) Click Other on bottom of window
7) Browse to the javaws.exe and select it.
Enjoy

Javaws will most likely need to download some items for it to work just tell it yes and it will do its thing. This will most likely be the same for any Windows OS since Win98 but I will test it on WinXP tonite.

Linux almost the same.

1) Go to java dir (of course a current release)
2) go into jre dir
3) unzip javaws*.zip
4) probably run install.sh
5) Edit mime type:
--MIME Type= application/x-java-jnlp-file
--Description= JNLP File
--Extension= jnlp
--Open it with= javadir/jre/javaws/javaws
6)Enjoy

Works with konqueror mozilla MozillaFirebird...

Rest not tested, but hey.. its linux Wink

Look at the MIME handler and change it.

How to set up replay for Mozilla (Windows)

1. Search for javaws.exe and remember the path
2. Open mozilla go to "edit" --> "preferences"
3. Select "helper applications" under "navigator"
4. click on "new type"
5. enter the following:
-- MIME type: application/x-java-jnlp-file
-- Description: JNLP File
-- Extension: jnlp
6. Select "open with" and enter the path to your javaws.exe
7. Hit Ok on all the windows and you are done Smile

There is an easier way than doing all that

http://java.sun.com/products/javawebstart/demos.html

go to that page and try and play one of the demo games, the site knows what to look for and sets up the associations and even downloads it if you need it

well thats what happened when i did it a couple of days ago

My preferred browser is Mozilla Firebird.

Unfortunately, it seems that replay doesn't work with it, because it doen't guess MIME types.

Hope for next releases,

marco

Funny.. I'm using firebird and it runs just fine. I think I simply told it to launch jnlp files with javaws... Not entirely sure though.

hmm... Looking at the Option panel (Firebird 0.6.0), I can select if download in a choosen folder or selecting one every time. No chance to tell the application how to open the file.
It is asked just where to save it. Confused

You're on a mac, right? It should just download the "JBBReplay.php" file to your desktop (or your designated download folder) and then you can just double click on it to open it in Java Web Start.

If, for whatever reason, it doesn't open in the right application, you can choose "get info" and change the "open with" to "Applications/Utilities/Java Wev Start".

Also note that JBBReplay requires JRE 1.4.1 which is only available for OS 10.2.x. The last few 10.1.5 users (like me here at work Sad ) are kinda stuck there.

No, sorry I am on Win2k machine, but I find your tips useful as well.

I fixed the matter with Opera 6.0 and IE 5.5: all smooth.
With Firebird simply doesn't work.

Actually the .php files are opened with an editor (PHPEdit).
Let me try...
Smile You see, it worked! Just changed the program designated to open php files.
It is not the best solution, but worked.

Thanks,
Marco

EDIT: for Mozilla Firebird i found a really nice extension called "Things they left out" adding to the Tool menu a "More Options" voice.
From here you can manage MIME Types in a simple manner, just like for other browser.
