Trying to give every coach a 50% win chance regardless of skill is a bad idea. Better coaches should win more games and should not be penalised for it. The only factor in scheduling should be the team on paper, with the record or perceived ability of the coach not taken into account. |

The idea that there should be a 50/50 chance of winning is admirable.

Why is that admirable??
I dont see the point of that AT ALL. wasnt Bbox supposed to be competitive? |

I agree. It's the idea that's wrong, not the math. |

This was in fact a very fair match - after a niggle, 10 dorts started against 13 rats with a bribe the ref in hand. Only my own idiocy stopped the score in the first, and even had I not got a blitz in the second for the winning TD, it always looked like a game the skaven could win.
Maybe some new TS formula is being tested here? |

conceding should be illegal in BBox, especially if we have BR |

Why? Assuming that BR isnt allowed to influence matchups it's punishment enough to lose BR? What is the difference from conceeding in ranked? |

assuming it isn't, then its not the greatest problem...
assuming it is (of what I have heard it is) it would be abusing the rules.
if you get a though matchup.. then just concede and lower your BR to get easier matchups later.
anyway.. whats the point in having random draws if you just can concede.. sounds to me its just like ranked, you choose witch games you have
if its no penalty for conceding (wow, you loose BR!! what a penalty!, most likely it just helps you in the next match)
whats the point in having Blackbox if you can choose not to play your match ? |

He also loses 1 point of FF and if he has stars (51SPP+), they might run. |

He seems to have conceeded before a single turn was played. |
Who conceded before a single turn was played?
If you are talking about the DorfvsZon fiasco then you are very much mistaken. |

My suggestion would be this:
* Try to match games to have similar TS teams.
* Try to match games to have similar BR coaches - although giving this a lower priority than the TS.
* Do not, however, try to trade off between a TS mismatch and a BR mismatch.
I think it's good to play fair games in TS terms, and it's good to play against coaches who are at about your level. Anything else is bad, and the bigger the mismatch the worse it is. A game with a big TS difference and a big BR difference balancing it off is still a bad game. It's slightly better that the two factors are balancing off than combining, but it's still bad.
I'd call it a case of two wrongs don't make a right.
Being a good coach is equally about winning 50-50 games 60% of the time, winning 80-20 games 90% of the time and winning 20-80 games 30% of the time. Giving higher rated coaches outmatched games all the time isn't fun, and doesn't lead to a balanced rating scheme, because it will only measure good coaches on their ability to win a certain type of game. Conversely it only measures bad coaches abilities to lose games they should have won, and that's not much fun for them either.
Even more importantly, if you're a good coach primarily by way of developing well balanced teams, then how are you supposed to show it if as soon as your rating goes up you constantly get unfair match-ups that destroy your teams? And they're exactly the coaches that [B] should be helping identify - it's one thing to make a well balanced team by cherrypicking in [R], and another thing entirely to do it in [B]. Giving a big TS mismatch to balance BR mismatches ruins [B] as a place for people to show that they're good at managing teams in a fair environment. |
