It is time for the first Box Major of the year.
This tournament has a very unique qualification process which makes it a lot of fun.
Be sure to read how the "field" will be split up.
Crown of Sand Qualifiers
Here is the short and sweat version.
The 8 races with the most applicants will each form up their own qualifier group. The teams who are not in the top 8 of most teams will then be sorted out and added into the 8 groups.
SO, what that means is that the 8 most represented races will all be in their own qualifier group, playing each other. So Chaos will have its own, CD will have its own and so on and so forth.
So, lets ready to storm the pitch in Khemri. Get your team ready to go and get applied.
Sidenote: Some of the Box meta groups like HLP and ARR like to storm the CoS and fill up one of the qualifier groups. So it is most likely there will be one qualifier with Humans and then ARR will figure out which race or races they will flood the CoS with to form up 1 or 2 more qualifiers with the least represented teams in the Box. |

Each year the Tomb lords of the Khemri meet at a charred
and blackened crack in the desert. There powerful magic is called upon from
ancient Tomes and Lich Lords under vow to assist, and the dusty magical
conflagration sends up a flaming beacon into the sky. Teams from all over the
world see the sign and flock to the desert for the chance to compete for the
Crown Of Sand. Each Team has one week to seek out the camp for their
race in the desert, amidst the twisted dunes and desolate wastes, blasted with
the magic of the Crown. For Eldritch reasons this legendary artefact guides each
team to that camp, where all of their race congregate, around a central pillar
of fire, The pillar itself growing stronger and brighter with each arriving
team. The 24 pillars of fire form a circle. In the centre of this ring, during
the week of the gathering, a huge Pyramid rises from the sands, shorn half way
of the tip and featuring instead a huge plateau of fields marked, in the dust of
bones from centuries past, with symbols of Blood Bowl play. At the very centre
of this vast plain in the sky, risen from the desert, is a plinth. Atop it , on
a pedestal of Skulls, Sits the Crown Of Sand itself. The winner of the Finals of
the 'Crown Of Sands' will be allowed to place this item upon the head of their
team captain, and recruit the results. As always the Crown will crumble, and as
the sands hit the floor, 6 skeletons will rise and obey. As the edifice
is completed, 16 of the pillars, the smallest and weakest, wink out of existence
and a sandstorm blows; the other races wander, as bands, and are guided to the
remaining pillars of fire, where the 8 qualifying tournaments are formed. These
mighty Tournaments lead to single victors, and those remaining 8 are drawn into
the finals of the Crown Of Sands. The CoS always draws some of the world's great
Star names, for the legendary artifact has spawned a legendary Blood
Bowl-a-thon, now beamed via cabalvision to every corner of the
globe.
Tomb King Settra finishes reading the parchment, crumbles it up and wipes his back side with it and then tosses it into the corner of the tent.
"Who in the hell wrote this drivel?"
"My King, that was written by some scribe who works in the offices of the FUMBBL Leagues."
"Well, he does have the flair for the dramtic, I will give him that."
Settra walks over to the table that is set up in the middle of the grand tent. 20 Engineers are feverishly working over all the last minute details to get the Crown of Sand tournament grounds up and running.
"How are the fire collum machines working this year? I do not want a screw up like what happened in CoS V when two of the fire colums would not work."
"No, sir, we have triple checked everything. The fire machines are in perfect condition."
"The sandstrom maker working this year?"
"Yes, sir, we have brought in a new one from Cathay, found it real chep."
"Cathay? My god man, why are you buying stuff from those sweat shop's?"
"Well, the budget needed some cutting, so, we decided to go cheap."
Faster than a scorpion tail strike, Settra pulls out his sword and cuts the engineer in half. The room comes to a halt, silence.
"If you guys think you can go cheap, you are wrong! If word of this ever gets out my rep will be tarnished and dragged through the mud."
Every one is bowing and mumbling praise of the most wise King.
"Now get back to work, the teams will be arriving any day!"
Settra leaves the engineer tent and heads up to the playing pitches. He stands there watching the army of skeletons and zombies getting the pitches marked and groomed. Making sure the spectator stands are in good order and have all the sinage and paid advertisment banners in their proper places.
He arrives at the center of this holy site. He sees the plith with a alter of bones. He walks up to it and picks up one of the skulls, rolls it around in his hand. He begins to smile. Oh, the memory of the day when he took this head from Ulm-Shabob, what a putz.
He notices a priest come around from the backside of the alter, he is whistling some tune and carries a wooden crate with Cathay cat scratch on it. He stands there watching. The priest does not see Settra, he opens the chest and pulls out a tarnished crown, obviously shoddly made and junk.
SETTRA IS ENRAGED!!!!!
He leaps faster than a puma, crashes into the priest, three ribs crack and his collar bone is turned into dust. He pins him to the ground.
"What is this?"
Settra reaches over and grabs the crown, it is brittle and very thin, the jewels on them are made of glass and he can see scribbled in side: Made in Cathay.
He crushes the crown in his vice like hand and tosses it off the alter.
The priset rolls over in pain, pleeding with Tomb King Settra.
"It is not my fault my King, they said we had to make budget cuts for the tournament so I ordered off of E-Bay these awesome crowns last year. I got 5 for the price of 1. So we no longer have to order any more until CoS XI"
As the sun sets over the western sky, Tomb King Settra prepares to march back towards the engineer tent, he wishes to find the "bean" counters and KILL THEM ALL. He takes one last look at the alter. He then looks down, in his hand is the skull of the priest with 4 tin crowns impaled in his bleach white skull. He drops the skull, another skull added to the alter of bones.
He feels a wind from the heavens, the wind brushes with his soul, the old Gods are pleased. As Settra walks off, the last ray of this day glitters off the new crown on the alter, the Crown of Settra will take its place.
*****************************
Get ready guys, it is time to make the trip to the Lands of the Dead and do battle!!!!!!!

I think you will find, upon a second read, that the CoS has the finest fluff on FUMBBL.
But, who will the 8 major races (5 places each minimum?) be?
It's a B tourney, so my predictions:
Nurgle (B Div)
Chaos Dwarf (B Div)
Chaos (B Div)
Dwarf (Always, everywhere)
Orc (Because Orcs)
Human (HPL)
Undead (still forlorn and popular)
Lizzards (2016's must have team)
and elves to miss out again. |

I don't know about Undead and Lizards, I have rarely encountered those races in the box. My helves were going to make a run at it but they are locked up in a Brawl and they were decimated in the first round of this brawl anyway.....so Dwarfs it is.
It would be nice if one of the Elven teams could make it so they would be able to make a nice run, but you are probably correct. |

Don't think I'll be in the CoS then! Only got a Khemri team to enter XD although now I'm starting my new teams in blackbox as I'm boycotting the annoying gamefinder. |

Pretty sure ARR will make at least one underdog race into a major qualifier. As always the real trick is figuring out which |

Are there really that many coaches with Major worthy ARR teams to pick from?
^Rhetoric question. |

The big challenge in this years CoS is this.
The last 5 CoS winners have been either Chaos or Nurgle, will that change this year? |
