'Have you got it?' whispered Councilman Frederick Rotbottom

'Aye m'lord, tis a beauty' replied Samuel Bonnie holding aloft a strangly glowing object

'Ok everyone, gather your things we've got a long way still to go' said the councilman putting the item into a smooth black box

The Night Terros moved quickly and silently and they were ready to go within no time at all.

'Will we make the peak in time?' the Councilman asked of James

'I believe so sir, we should make good time once we leave the battlefield' stated James confidently

'I've heard that on a clear day, on the highest peak, you can see the volcanoes in Ualan spitting balls of fire into the sky' said Dr. Goodbody in a rare moment of lucidity

'Lets move gentlemen, Karahn-Carach awaits' said the Councilman

And so the Night Terrors set off towards the distant mountains, knowing that the hardest part of their journey was yet to come.

Deaden looked out over the assembled crowd of rats in Pox.

I return home. I see new awareness. This makes I happy to see. But I want more.

The assembled rats looks around, curiosity perked.

Too long we live in filth, too long we held down. I see greatness. We deserve greatness. The man-things run from us. They are scared of us. Man-things are nothing.

The rats start to hiss and shout their agreement. Deaden holds up his paw and everyone goes quiet.

We will purge Pox of the man-things. They will not stop us. Pox will be ours alone. Pointy eared man-things and short hairy man-things are next. But they scared. They not want to fight. I lead. We hunt. Rotting man-things will not get away from us!!!

Deaden leaves to speak with his disciples and the crowd surges through the streets hunting for elves and dwarves. They won't stay hidden for long and then Deaden will begin the purge.....

"Run you fools! This place isn't what we though." Mandara screamed at his kin as his body fell broken to the dirt. The elves took flight, only a handful remaining on the field to see out the game. This dark and mysterious place had taken it's toll on their minds and now their bodies and they didn't wish to remain here a moment longer.

Rakesh: Our god has no power here. What place is this? It is evil to it's core, a home for frogs. We have lost our ears. Another brother will take his place when we return to Saarth.
***Their is disquiet and murmuring among the team as they look around, exasperated.***
Mandara: I am here brother.
***Mandara emerges from the shadows, eyes sunken and hollow, his sleeve torn off and used to bind his shoulder.***
Mandara: Let us leave this curse'd place at once.
Rakesh: Prepare the ship. We sail at dawn.

Their 5th match was yet another loss, even Vrogoth met with another untimely end. Nagath was very displeased but with the prize money they had gathered getting bits for the Necromancy involved with raising Vrogoth back to life was easy. Once back alive, Vrogoth and Nagath walked into the forest to find fresh bodies to raise new zombies. What they found was more than they had bargained. A Werewolf was in the forest, it was busy devouring it's prey, a maiden from the village who had been out for a midnight stroll. Whilst distracted the two Wights pounced, they were surprised by the speed and strength of the creature but it's blood frenzy made it easily defeated. Rather than killing it, Nagath realized it's potential and whilst it was subdued they negotiated with it.
Darkpaw has joined the Cult.

Hexhui sprinted down the street, pausing halfway down to glance back in the direction from which he fled. It was over a dozen heartbeats before the small group of halfling thugs rounded the corner, huffing and puffing as they gave chase. Hexhui made a show of looking ahead and behind, before the skink darted down a narrow alleyway across the other side of the street. He threw a stone at the window above the alley alerting Ankhali, and zipped to the other end where Eczlat waited hidden in a sunken doorway.

"There are only five of them," laughed Hexhui as he stopped and found a spot to lie down, "The two fat ones couldn't keep up. I think one tripped and broke his ankle and the other one turned purple and is vommiting in a gutter."

Eczlat hissed his approval, and waited in the shadows. Hexhui lay on the ground clutching at his leg, faking anguish as he watched the halflings run into the alley. The wicked smile that formed on the lead halfling's face as the group approached would have been intimidating if it hadn't be washed away by a sudden flash of fear as first Eczlat stepped out in front of them, and Ankhali dropped from the window into the alley behind them.

Across town Garadohi and Adohitza returned to their escort, today they had both Zlatchicc and Tzagor, such was the concern about their mission. Neither the Saurus or the Kroxigor were ones for conversation so the two skinks spoke amongst themselves.

"So the Cult of Perpetual Existance has spread further than Goquax imagined." said Garadohi, mulling over the implications. "Silly old fool."

"Well, they don't claim to be Cultists, the Innkeeper confirmed that they call themselves the Graveshade Jesters." countered Adohitza.

"They look like the Cult, they smell like the Cult." argued Garadohi.

"Only some did. Most were just bones."

"They were afraid to meet us on the pitch - just like the Cult."

"No one here seems willing to fight. I reckon they've got shadows on their minds." Adohtiza countered, convinced that Garadohi was too confident in his conclusions.

"The halflings fight, and so do the town guard." Garadohi loved to argue with Adohitza, it was a kind of sport.

"Only in the in streets," grumbled Adohitza "No glory for the Fire Lizard there."

"Well the stableboy seemed to think that these Jesters were returning to Graveshade in the next few days. I bet Tzatza will decide to give chase, if they continue to cower from us when in their home town then we'll know for sure that they're part of the Cult.

***

Goquax was guarding their Oracle as he dreamed. The Smoked Flounder Inn was a burnt out shell, but it was a good place for the Burning Talon to hide from the City Watch, still looking for answers about the fire that caused damage to half a dozen buildings. Certainly difficult conditions, but a welcome relief from their days spent at the Shadowspires and the taste of ash in the air was comforting the lizards of the Burning Talon.

They had approached other teams for a match, but had been unable to make arrangements to circumvent the local authorities. They would need to leave soon, and when he woke Tzatza would show them the path.

'Are we there yet?' asked the impatient Angus McKay

'Aye laddie' replied the exhausted Samuel Bonnie, wiping the sweat from his brow

So the Night Terrors had finally reached their destination. Karahn-Carach towered over them, climbing up into the clouds above. In the distance the beat of some drums could be heard echoing from deep beneath the mountain. Thrumm, Thrumm, Thrumm.

'Keep alert everyone, there are many unsavoury types in these mountains' said James Frobsher

'We rest here tonight then tomorrow we climb.' said Councilman Frederick Rotbottom

"Are you sure about what we are doing here?", Krurger said to Jaganzo, "The Council want us back at home and we are going right into a forgotten places were we can easily gest lost..."
"Actually the Council said it want us back after the tournament", Jaganzo replied, "I'm sure it's a pretty good opportunity to gain respect from other nations and make our commerce easier. And we will not get lost, right Achemin?"
"It's not that hard, just follow me and be my shadows!", Achemin confirmed, "We will get it done..."

And so the Wanderers walked through the shadows, while trashing the whole Borosia nation (both Harmony Decree and Rambling Roses of Borosia) and escaping an ambush by the shadow creatures, the Graveshade Grandmasters.

"I'm the Captain here, I'm the Captain there, you are just a f***ing idiot!", Krurger's screams could be heard from miles away.
"But the shadows...", just a whisper from Jaganzo's mouth...
"The shadows?", Philden continued, "All you need to do was to cross that damn TD line!"
"But the shadows... I couldn't see that...", again a whisper from Jaganzo...
No words from Kuska, just a mighty punch in Jaganzo's face that made him pass out.

Astonished for a shameful loss, with a comatose captain, the Wanderers sailed without a direction, without a leadership, just being adrift...

The elves gazed around in the darkness. Some had been changed by the aspect of the shadows, others were not. But they had all been getting used to the environment. None of them spoke too much. They had done what they set out to do. They had travelled in darkness for many days now, and they had claimed victories against all they had come across. Some victories had come more easily than others, but they had all been honest ones. In their hearts, some elves even believed that somehow, in some weird way, this set them on a path that would lead them to inner healing. Perhaps. It was still far too early for honest hope though.

And now, this amulet. It was just waiting for them. For an organized first tournament, it was certainly as bizarre as could be. The thing seemed to pulse with its own intentions, and shadowy tendrils coalesced around it. It felt, unique. The shadows near it behaved differently, almost deferentially. Almost as if things shaped around it, into their own identity.

Shadow Amulet

Any team who holds the Shadow Amulet is able to hire ANY player team can potentially hire at ANY location, although no more than ONE between any game. Any player hired in this manner MUST choose the Shadowing skill at the earliest possible opportunity - even before Stat increases.

The Shadow Amulet will pass on to the next player winning the Tournament of Shadows. In addition, there are certain events/possibilities that would make a team lose possession of the Shadow Amulet.

The Burning Talon arrived in Graveshade having chased the Jesters from Ryder's Cove. The scale of Cult worshiping here seemed outrageous, even before they reached the town proper. On the outskirts they had passed farms with crops and livestock, harvested and cared for not by the living, but by the dead raised to serve their masters for an eternity. These dead must have been employed in this manner for an age, as unlike the zombies they had seen at home, these poor souls had been reduced to mere bones, their flesh having rotten away years ago. This was a side of the Perpetual Existance never witnessed on Ualun.

According to a travelling merchant many of the people of this town and it's outlying areas had long since moved inwards, closer to the Castle, abandoning their individual homes to their ancestors, and living communally in large barracks. The merchant referred to the barracks as cellars but not for wine, and claimed this was the work of the Lord Ebon Xanic.

The lizards did not know exactly what this meant but Tzatza explained that even as the cultists draw on the bodies and spirits of their dead, the Priests of the religon preyed on the bodies and spirits of the living, just as they had seen when they met the Graveshade Grandmasters at Ryder's Cove. Before departing the merchant warned them that not all in Graveshade were happy with their enslavement, but any visting traders were watched closely to ensure they didn't deviate from their business. Attemping to help those thralls of Xanic would be punished.

This news was clearer to the Lizards, and easy to understand. They would defeat the Jesters on the grid of iron, and inspire those under Xanic's boot that see the folly in Perpertual Existance to rise up and throw out the Lord and his Priests. A fool proof plan to all, meaning Adohitza's suggestion of waiting until nightfall and then setting fire to a barracks or cellar full of cultists would wait until after they saw the results of their victory on the pitch.

'Is it done?' asked the Councilman

'Yes sir' replied Warwick

The Night Terrors stood upon the highest peak of Karahn-Carach looking out accross the lands of Orymm. What they had done here today could well be a step towards setting right an age-old misdeed by the people of Pockara.

'Let us hope this works as I don't want to make that climb again any time soon' said the wearied Angus

'Only time will tell' replied the Councilman staring to the South

'Where we be goin' t' now boss?' enquired Samuel

'There's someone we need to see in Graveshade, but we'll need to make a quick stop off in Borosia first' said the Councilman, eyes firmly fixed to some unknown place in the South

'Aye Borosia, I were a-feared ye'd be sayin' that' said Samuel worriedly

So the Terrors packed up camp once more a were on their way. The climb down would be easier going but the Night Terros still had a long way to go and no easy way to get there.

They shambled into Ryders Cove from their boat, They were looking forward to playing all the many assembled teams but as they waited and waited all they saw were their ever present opponents, those bouncing, jumping frog men. How they hated them. They played and managed their first real result. The new Werewolf DarkPaw made his mark and scored for them on his first outing before being brutally fouled and hurt. He'll be back for their next match...if only they could find another opponent.

U'bognthaotur was puzzled. Minutes earlier he had been in the midst of planning an investigation on the late attacks by some twisted creatures the local humans called "ghouls". And then Ebon Xanic had informed him that the Jesters are from now on free to roam Orymm at the dead dwarf's discretion. Just as life in Graveshade had him back after his visit of the Shadowspires. Had welcomed the hated but familiar environment.

Then the strange lizarmen had beaten his team in its home stadium, the attacks had started and now these unexpected news. He realized it wasn't easy for him to handle several tasks and problems at once anymore. Over 80 years of monotony and an undead brain had taken their toll. He felt old.

He'd seek the Black Wolf's council. At least the issues related to the Jesters he would be able to delegate unto him. It might also be a way to relieve some of the constant tension that had been between them ever since he had impulsively seized control over the whole team during the match at Shadowspires. He needed a conversational partner. He needed a friend.
