Sometimes, you are given a choice: you laugh or you cry. So you LOL 'cuz you can't say nothing and you want to look like a good sport. It can also be a way to say "it's okay" to your opponent when he kills your best guy on a silly gratuitous Turn 15 foul, or whatever. Or it can be a way to point out hilarious things, like when you declare a pass, fail a pickup on the sideline, and the ball scatters out of bounds, only to be thrown in right to the intended receiver. That's LOL-worthy.

And 39 isn't old. It's two years older than Dennis.

Arthur: Old Woman!
Dennis: Man!
Arthur: Man, sorry.... What knight lives in that castle over there?
Dennis: I'm thirty-seven!
Arthur: What?
Dennis: I'm thirty-seven! I'm not old--
Arthur: Well I can't just call you "man"...
Dennis: Well you could say "Dennis"--
Arthur: I didn't know you were called Dennis!
Dennis: Well, you didn't bother to find out, did you?!

I prefer the bemused silence and frustration that is expressed by a pause followed by "..."

Not complaining really, but rather savoring the result of a bad die roll.

Both players are watching the same dice go by. But most coaches are biased in their perceptions. It is a rare coach who recognizes when he has received the benefit of good dice. That 'lol' is only irritating to me if they've also failed to recognize their own good luck, or bad luck on my part. I usually think of light-hearted dice whines as normal social behaviour.

I like a good light-hearted dice whine with some brie. Makes me feel snooty and superior.

Odds yes. Comments tricky.

I get offended by lots of things that other people perceive as fine. We are a diverse bunch as well...
