Well, mac, I hate to tell you,

but

if you tell somebody that breathing is good for you and they agree,

that doesn't mean you're smart Smile

I have to agree with whoever in the thread said to become experienced with one race. I usually only play dark elves or humans, and aside from the dodging ability, they are rather similar. Speed, strength, armor...

Anyway, when I first started playing on FUMBBL (ignoring the years I've played TT), I lost a ton of games and I got rather discouraged as well. Then someone sat me down and explained some things I had missed while FUMBBL was going through that week-long disappearing act earlier this year. When I got back, I had a new offensive strategy and it started to work. I modified it and included a defense that best fit my team and what they could do. Since I knew what skills I could get and what the best ones were for each roll, I knew how to maximize my team's ability.

In short, learn your team. Pick a race (or two) and play them religiously. Try different schemes, both offensively and defensively. Don't worry about how many losses or wins you have. I still have a morbid winning percentage, but now I'm usually winning twice as much as I'm losing. Keep trying, keep learning, and you'll get there.

Addendum: There is no "perfect" gameplan in Blood Bowl. Each team, each setup, each position... they all have weaknesses as well as strengths.

The Newbie Tips section of the User Guide is what Macavity was referring to - it's in this link, along with a lot of other good sources:

well thanks for all who replied, i really only posted for something to read later:P
i did read the sticky thread and its TRUE, there really is something for everyone.
im pleased to note that a large chunk of voters think its not just my crapness that makes me lose (only one "o" in lose guys!). i know what people are saying but the luck bit is rather harsh in my games. my orcs once had a team beaten down all over the place with just stuns. the oppo gets in one 1dice block per turn resulting in bads and serious'. this is not just bad play. fortunately i usually get over my paddy and try again. trying some different teams now including (shock, horror) high elves!
i hate elves but you gotta try right?
hey lord chaos. i found your comment very funny and really did lol
that was the sort of thing i was expecting in this thread but people amazed me by being polite, caring and sincere.
kinda restores faith in the bb race really....

Don't get too too comfortable. We'll come there and foul your players dead.

this is not tottaly uncommon for me.
am i still crap? forget the second half, i was a bit beyond caring by that point...

i named the team after lucky stuff, cos another new team (pain and anguish) suffered greatly, (one skill roll=niggle) and thought i would try a nicer-named team, lol

still playing, and nuffle, im gonna getcha

You made some really bad moves and bad positioning, but you were unlucky with those AV rolls and injury rolls. Got to give you that.

OK, so is there a group/tournament especially for people who are not very good and happy with that? Smile

e.g. An Under 145 or Under 140 Club.

You have to keep your ranking below the magic number to stay an active member. Smile
