Hi,
when i watch a game, the sounds seem only to be played half or less of that - are cut off somehow. If somebody is blocked e.g, the sound stops in the middle of the usual block sound. I hear no steps a player makes, the ping is cut off, the passes and so on are, but the spectator sounds are all as usual. So every cheer e.g. has its full length and sounds good. Just the gamesounds themselves are cut off.
This situation appears while spectating and while playing.
My test system is a
Windows 7, 64 bit
Java 6 Update 20 (64 bit version)
I'll do some tests with that with an Ubuntu 64 bit and a Fedora 64 bit, when another game is running.
Greets,
gan |

Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit uses Java 6 Update 14 (64 bit, too)
With that system the client crashed multiple times in a row, always when the first sound was played while spectating.
Fedora 12 (Constantine, 64 bit) uses Java 6 Update 17 (64 bit, too)
The same bug as under Ubuntu, the client crashes while playing the first sound.
In both cases an exception is thrown, that has to do with the Clip object, which is responsible to play the sounds.
I hope, i could help, greets,

Hi Mate. I'm on a Ubuntu 9.10 machine and running Sun java 6 update 17, and I don't have any problems. Perhaps downgrading to update 17 would help... Not sure though, as you have the same problem on your windows machine. Might be worth a try.
..and make sure your system is actually running SUN java, and not Open JRE.
(sudo update-alternatives --config java) |

Hi,
then perhaps the 64bit systems make the difference.

Might be.. I have no experience in 64-bit systems. Perhaps someone else familiar to those systems have a better chance of helping you out. |

could also be a corrupted sound library in the Javabowl folder. Have you tried to to simply delete the folder and extract it again? |

The new client doesn't need such a directory. It is downloaded directly (at the moment). So my 3 systems downloaded the newest version from fumbbl.com. Not all could be wrong. But thank you.
With 64bit you have a lot more trouble, than you like to, it seems. Especially Windows is tricky with some programs. |

Hi,
can someone with a 64bit system try this, too, using OpenJRE or JRE/JSE for Windows in the 64bit version.
Thank you,

Hi Gandresch,
I've played around a bit with the sound code and it should be a bit better now (mute not playing a sound at all for instance). Could you retry and tell me how the changes affect your systems?

Hi,
it's working now with Windows (thank you for DeadRabbit and lauth81 for offering their teams to try). I think, linux will do as well.
Wht have you done, just curious

I also had sound problems spectating. In my case sound was lagging way behind the action or movement although the sounds themself were fine. |
