Really wish you could see who is spectating a game (or maybe you can and I've not noticed), so I could say 'thanks for the rail'. Maybe there is a good reason why you can't.
Often I only realise there is a spectator when they make a noise. I get why spectators can't chat in the chat box; not sure I'd want that anyway, but could be fun sometimes.
Thoughts anyone?
PS i'm not that popular that I get loads of specs
PPS How about a 'fan club' function on teams where you can join a team's fan club and you get a sign on your homepage to let you know when they are playing? |

I agree with you. I would like to know who is watching, and don't know why that isn't possible. I also like the fan club idea. |

if you add someone to your buddy list, then they will be listed on your homepage, so that you know if they are online, or playing a game.
I personally use my buddy list so that I can see when people are online, largely for the exact thing you describe as a fan club.
You can't see who is spectating your game for various reasons - I don't know them specifically, but in games I've worked on in the past we had to ban it for at least the following 2 reasons: if your player dies, and everyone cheers, you might get mad at particular people if you know who is speccing (or other cases of holding grudges against spectators). And if you know who is spectating, you could try to cheat somehow (although possibly not as big a deal when there's nothing like fog of war). |

anyway, you can find out who was speccing - to a degree.
once the game finishes, the log will show the names of specs as they leave the game (but only after the end of the game, and before you quit yourself). |

you can easily know who's spectating by inviting people to spec your game XD
and i'm one of those people who do enjoy cheering when players die and boo TD's. |

Fan Club would be great! I'm still waiting for someone creating one for the Monsters (of course I'd never do or even suggest that myself!), would probably happen much faster with such a function.
There could be a spectator command /fanclub and you will see who from the team's fan club is spectating. Also, there could be a separate list on the "home" page where you only see the last 10 matches played by teams you are a fan club member for.
Well, dreams. But it would be FUN! |

Id like to see the number of spectators having a small in game impact.
When a spec signs in they have to pick which team they are supporting. Any kick off rolls involving fan factor that end in a tie are decided by the number of spectators on each team.
Also it could display how many specs each team has (or fans as FF + specs) |
